Episode 2.09 - Mama (17-Nov-2014)

When a rash of suicides at Tarrytown Psychiatric Hospital results in staffers calling the police for help, Sheriff Reyes, knowing Abbie’s familial connection to both the circumstances and the institution – her mother killed herself while she was a patient there – assigns Mills to the case. With Crane suffering from and debilitated by a seasonal cold, Abbie enlists the help of her sister, Jenny (also a former Tarrytown patient) and Nick Hawley, in her investigation. The Mills sisters’ first stop is to visit former Police Captain Frank Irving, who, despite being an unwilling minion of the Horseman of War, maintains that his soul is – for the moment, at least – still his own, and offers to aid in whatever way he can... an offer that may come back to haunt him. As they investigate the recent deaths, Abbie and Jenny also try to learn whatever they can about their mother’s time at Tarrytown leading up to her suicide, knowing now what they never believed in the past... that the demons she feared were in fact real. As they delve deeper into their case, Abbie and Jenny make a startling discovery, leading them to believe that Moloch’s handiwork is again at play, and forcing them to once more face their past as they find themselves in an all-too-familiar battle for their survival... but this time, they may have an unexpected but determined ally.

Meanwhile, in Fredericks Manor, Henry continues in his plans to strengthen the infant demon creature which will, in time, grow to become Moloch, and he uses the unaware Katrina – who, due to the effect of the spell-casting amulet she wears, sees the creature as nothing more than a normal human baby – to aid in his rearing.

  2. I thought that amulet was spelled only so that she could see Abraham in human form...and only Abraham......

  3. As someone who was hoping for character development for Katrina, it saddens me that she is literally clueless about what is going on.

On a less dedressing note, I can't wait for Ichabod to discover the "copious amounts of medication utilized to combat the common cold" (That last part is to be read in Ichabod's voice).

  8. Let's see how it's played. She is blinded by the necklace, the spoilers in Episode 10 (an interview given by Neil Jackson) Ichabod sees and speaks with Abraham how else can he do that without Katrina's necklace. I think Ichabod gets irritated by spellbound Katrina spending too much time at the nation and takes her necklace to have it out with Abraham. Which results in a Katrina seeing the true demon baby and unfortunately Henry's deepest betrayal.

Episode 11 is before the Christmas break. So it must be a cliffhanger.

I totally agree with you. Mind you....I know the headless horseman is evil and we are not supposed to like him....but I could totally cuddle up to him in real life. He is cute!

  12. Awesome, really can't wait to see more of the Mills Sisters in action. Looking forward to getting some back story on their mother. Did we ever find out what their missing memories were? They hinted at it in the finale but it seemed to get dropped in the premiere.

  13. Awesome, some good Abbie/Jenny interaction coming up. I look forward to that, and getting more in depth about all the things that happened to their mom. This sounds like it could be a rather heavily emotional episode, actually, and a creepy one as well. A rash of suicides at a mental institution is always disturbing, and the phrase "infant demon creature"...well, when has that ever signaled anything good :p?
I'm looking forward to this one. Very much.

  14. Looking forward to this episode. I really have been wanting some back story on Abbie and Jenny I hope it doesn't disappoint. Hopefully, there will be minimal Katrina (hold up demon infant WTF?) I'm not sure how Ichabod has a face to face with Headless/Abraham as he stated the necklace was forged with a non-removing clause and enchanted so she could see him as his former self. Whatever, I'm ready for Headless to go back to being the "Big Bad" and not on diaper changing duty. Some how IMO the focus on Headless' obsession with Katrina and also pouty evil minion Henry (so he hates his parents, get over it) dampens my excitement whenever I hear an episode might be slightly heavy with their involvement (maybe I should get over it too, but ugh whatever). Any way I hope by this episode if the show is heading toward Nick and Abbie having a personal intimate connection that whatever Jenny feelings may be toward this has been solved or maybe not an issue at all. Any how like what I read here. BTW also glad they are involving Irving. Maybe they should consider breaking him out of there while they are solving the mystery of the week.

  15. I was all excited about Jenny finally getting in on the action and then they say Hawley is coming along. I would have preferred just the sisters, especially since it is about their mother. I don't quite mind Hawley, what I don't like is the love triangle brewing and the fact that he's getting more screentime than our regulars (Jenny, Irving and Katrina).

Ummm... So.... That spider that went into Katrina knocked her up with future!Moloch? Not even sure how that's supposed to work and why does Henry even want Katrina's help and God Katrina needs to get over her "Henry can be saved, despite him trying to kill me/forcing a demon baby on me" and focus on defeating him and Moloch. Abraham is one thing, I can still see some humanity in him, due to his love of Katrina, but she needs to write Henry off and stop letting him abuse her.
