really good follow up of the pilot as I really enjoyed the intro of Zed, and what they gave us of her character.... obviously there's more to her story that will be revealed I assume, but I really liked the dynamic between she and Constantine... the cotw of the week was decent and was pretty obvious that it was the wife as soon as she mentioned that she was a gypsy. still it played out well and was a good ep for Halloween
I liked Zed a free spirit like Constantine seeking answers. And with her gift they will work well with each other. The way Constantine works alone is actually nice, it gives a limitless feeling to what he can do, the rules he can break. And tho Zed will be joining him, both being travelers it should be a problem.
Loved it. Storyline had a better pacing than the Pilot so bonus. The chemistry between Constantine and Zed - kinda intense there some scenes. I'm officially considering this one the show that should have had a better chance but didn't. Shame.
"There's nothing darker than Roma magic!" That was a joke, right? You can't tell me that a line so nauseatingly stupid can be written, acted and edited without anyone realizing how wrong that was?
Enjoying it quite alot so far but worried it won't get the back nine based on the ratings.
There's alot of good easter eggs for people that know the comics. Many of Zed's various drawings are actually covers from various Hellblazer issues. And I saw a drawing of a multi-headed multi-armed creature. I really hope that's a drawing of the future, because that's 'Ironfist the Avenger', a creature raised my Nergal and sent after Zed in the comics. And the way John dealt with it was utterly brilliant...
The set up was very similar. The start of the episode could have been straight out of a Supernatural episode. Even the last bit of the titles (the fire exploding out of 'Constantine') was very similar to Supernatural's titles. However unlike Supernatural this episode kept my attention for most of the episode! Something that I'm afraid that SPN hasn't done in a long time.
I thought the same, and tho i like Supernatural, still watching it. Watching Constantine felt like there was a great weight lifted from me. Because Constantine doesn't have to deal with the in house fighting drama and can do what he wants.
Thanks for proving to me why it was a good thing there were no love interests on Supernatural. Zed was a terrible change making an already borderline cliche show even worse.
I've been sad to have walked away from Supernatural, but even without Carver, this is not going to make the grade. The best I can say is it got me to rewatch the early season 1 SPN that I haven't seen in a while. The worst I can say is it was an unfunny, misogynistic, exercise in how cliche comic book tropes are and how studio involvement isn't helpful to the creative process.
The opening did not grab me, in fact had it not been for company wanting to watch it I wouldn't have. It was considerably better than I thought it would be but..something....For an episode to be that predictable story wise I need to have more character depth and I didn't get that from Zed. I did get enough to give her a chance to grow on me, but for this ep to rise above 'Good' I need to get more than this episode delivered. I do like Constantine (the character) enough to give the show a few episodes....
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

My first thought was wow Supernatural without the brothers and Carver. I enjoyed the ep.
ReplyDeleteHilarical!
ReplyDeleteTotally agreed. I think she is supposed to eventually be a love interest for Contantine. She was behaving like she was sniffing him. It was odd.
It is also quite problematic on the discrimination front. Given how the Roma have been treated and still are treated in Europe.
ReplyDeleteWell yeah, That's what I was talking about.

ReplyDeleteAnd an awful showrunner that does not seem to know how to keep the writers on track.
ReplyDeleteI want more Harold Perrineau... as Manny.. they really don't have enough scenes with him...

ReplyDeleteI was just happy she stopped that 'piercing stare' thing.
