Parenthood - These are the Times We Live In - Review: "I am fighting for you"

Thanks to a NBC spoilery preview, I was waiting for These are the Times We Live In mostly for getting to know more about Julia and Joel. I ended up watching 5 minutes of them, and a whole new episode dedicated to RUBY and Amber.

The Ruby and Hank storyline is so boring and annoying that it doesn’t deserve any more words. I am really disappointed by the writers and how they don’t understand that we DON’T CARE. I am really hoping that Hank and his ex wife decide to go away together, letting Sarah (and us in particular) free of this useless boredom. How is it possible that Camille, Crosby and Adam are not present in all the episodes, BUT RUBY AND HER MOTHER are. I really can’t understand it.

Amber had some (un?) expected problems managing Max and his sister and the entire house. I still can’t believe that we should buy that paranoid Kristina went away for days with Adam, trusting Amber to control everything. But at least the storyline was quite entertaining. I loved when Sarah arrived at her brother’s house consoling Amber.
Another storyline of the episode can be summarized as: Drew and Zeek spent some time together. I will repeat myself, but I really can’t stand Drew’s actor, so I didn’t care too much for this part of the episode that was nothing special at all.

The most interesting part revolved around Julia. Even if I was aware of everything, seeing that the preview shown almost all the scenes of these two, I loved how the divorce storyline is going on. They are both portrayed perfectly as a fragile couple insecure about their future. Joel finally decided to fight for her and I loved his moment with Zeek.
“I don’t want to live another day without you Julia, not another second”.
But the episode ends without an answer. Will Julia get back with her husband or will she sign the papers?

All in all the episode was better than last week’s boring one, but this is not Parenthood as we love it. This season as a farewell one should be more focused on the family and should avoid filler storylines. Unfortunately this is the seventh episode, but what we have is just a series of forgettable episodes full of characters we just don’t root for. I hope at least that the ending will be a proper sendoff, or this season can be classified as the worst of the series.

Next week preview is all about RUBY. Brace yourself for the impact! Aaron Brownstein Must Be Stopped will air this Thursday on Nbc at 10/9 c
What do you think about this week episode?

    1. I agree. Plus Sarah might not even be in next week episode...

    2. I agree, this is the end of the series, why dedicate so much time and energy to new characters? And I never liked Hank (I like him for Max, but not for Sarah as a relationship).
I am so happy Joel is going to fight. They belong together, I hated that they broke up the marriage to begin with!

    4. I can't wait to see how they will develop this storyline after last week episode. I love Joel btw Julia in the long term is the most interesting sibling! I loved her since the beginning of the series. I still root for her :-)

    6. Last season, I was hoping Julia would move on without Joel and basically get to the point she's at now with a new boyfriend. However, now I'm re-evaluating that storyline and I think Joel and Julia should reconcile. There's something in their relationship that can be salvaged yet. I wouldn't mind the series ending with them giving it another try.
