23 Nov 2014

Thanks to Jordan for the heads up

Episodes 10, 11 and 12 are a three-part trilogy that are about her. And episode 13 I think I can spoil, is called 'Canaries.' For fans of Laurel and for fans of Katie [Cassidy], they're going to get more than their fill after the winter break."

  1. Can't wait to see laurel in action, finally!

  2. I really hope they do justice to BC and Katie Cassidy and do it right. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'am so freaking excited for the Laurel becoming Black Canary arc! I trust in the writer's vision for her :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. So 4 Laurel centric episodes in a row (so far) oh joy

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oh my god, can't wait!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. i wil watch them before i judge them . Also cant wait for the crossovers!

    ReplyDelete
  7. 4? What?

The Climb is Oliver centric, episode 11 and 12 are not confirmed to center about anyone...so where are you taking this high quality whining from?
Does the simple mention of Laurel hurt you so much?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I hope they do it well.

  9. Wow!!! Simmer down, your joy is a bit overwhelming.

  10. I don't trust these writers with Laurels character, I'm not hot on the episodes but hope for the best.
Laurel has potential...wich hasn't been used too much since s1

    ReplyDelete
  11. Will watch and then form an opinion. But eagerly looking forward to all these major episodes that start, lead up to the fall finale and then beyond.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Go to go in with almost no expectations when it comes to the writers handling Laurel's character. That's the key, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It was said in interview that 10-12 focus on Laurel.

    ReplyDelete

  15. 11 and 12 are about Laurel. It says it in the article - I just didn't put that bit in the extract. Updated with that extra info now.

    ReplyDelete
  16. alrighty then, I didn't see that

    ReplyDelete
  17. Snce Arrow has a bad habbit of announcing such episodes as character centric only to turn it around in the actual episode that might not be the case

The Merlyn centric episode was a Nyssa episode and so on and so on. So there might be a chance it's less about Laurel and more about others...

I don't hate Laurel as much as the most fans here do, she's one of these people I'm neutral on and only get pissy when the hate-wave continues to rise. However the writers have a bad track record with her

    ReplyDelete
  18. I only have one expectation that must be fullfilled: good Canary fight scenes, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  19. In a way we should appreciate how ballsy they are to go full force on Laurel being BC when Oliver the Arrow is not there. They are aware of the criticisms but it's like them telling the audience "You hate the character. Hate her more. We are making her BC sooner. What can you do?" LOL

Let's see how it goes. Will at least a portion of fandom accept her or the dislike intensify? It's a mystery. Whatever happens I have a feeling they will send her away somewhere at the end of the season and will keep her future on the show ambiguous so that fans will lobby for and against her all through summer hiatus. I can foresee the fights now itself.

    ReplyDelete
  20. thanks for the article by the way

    ReplyDelete
  21. You did me a huge favor, I really didn't want to have to reply to that rude comment, so thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I try to contain my "excitement" but there's so much a person can hold back.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Agreed, I never got the intense hate she recieves (well I get the reasonable points about being unlikable at times but the shipper related hate is just beyond me) but even I see that this step needs balls...

I must say, that they're going the Canary route only shows that they're at least loyal to the character, wich is a good sign.

The hate WILL intensify, as long as she's a possible obstacle she will, this is me talking from experience from other shows. Not the blatant ship hater.

  24. Nicolás Caballero Mühlbach23 November 2014 at 21:19

    YEAH!!!!! so excited :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. rude? Really? When I complain about Felicity centric episodes I'm called out immediately but when you do the same about Laurel episodes I'm the rude one?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I just have to laugh how EPs & even Stephen keep saying lately LL& KC fans will be happy.
I will see what else is going on in the episodes. Hope we get some Team Arrow & Malcolm in these episodes. The way Merlyns & Theas storyline is going nowhere is a crime. I expected more with them locking Barrowman as a regular.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's odd to see the producers "pander" (not directly but talk overly positive) to Laurel/Felicity related stuff but leave out other characters.

Diggle has been CRIMINALLY underused and almost character-assassinated last episode, Merlyn is...well...not present, Thea is reverting back, Roy is there but doesen't do anything....

I don't get the Laurel hate, I get the annoyance form my side about the Felicity hype. But I neither hateor love none of both enough to care about their centric episodes.

There's a character in-balance that kind of hurts

    ReplyDelete
  28. didn't intend to be rude by the way

    ReplyDelete
  29. When you read along a comment thread we can easily segregate which of them are shipper related hate and which of them are genuine dislike for the character. I am interested in people like me who is unable to find her as a character interesting. Her love life be damned. If the show is able to turn neutral viewers who dislike the character that will be something they can be proud of. If you watch youtube reviews and general blog reviews of Arrow on the net. There are lot of people who hate Oliver/Felicity pairing but dislike Laurel too. I am looking at them and their povs.

As much as I appreciate them for fighting for Laurel I get the feeling the showing moving more and more towards comic book materials as the time goes by and The Flash is accepted. Their lack of giving Diggle a season long arc is making me fear for the future of Diggle, Felicity and to an extend Thea. As they are not comic book characters.

    ReplyDelete
  30. "so where are you taking this high quality whining from?" you are right that wasn't rude at all, you weren't attacking me personally at all, plus you do realize that I was right about the centric episodes? and for the record my hate for Laurel has nothing to do with me being an Olicity shipper.

    ReplyDelete
  31. whining is a world you'll get from all sides, so what?
Yeah, I do that's why there's a part in my post that stated that you were right about it.
And? Did I mention this anywhere? Why bring Olicity in?

    ReplyDelete
  32. "it's like them telling the audience "You hate the character. Hate her more. We are making her BC sooner. What can you do?" LOL"

I respect the writers even more now for having confidence and sticking to their version of how they have the story mapped out.

"..have a feeling they will send her away somewhere at the end of the season and will keep her future on the show ambiguous..."

Why? Where is this coming from? Any indication/hint/spoiler that the writers want to something like this?

"so that fans will lobby for and against her all through summer hiatus"

Fans having any kind of lobbying power to decide a character's fate is one scary and depressing thought.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Felicity isn't going anywhere. As for Diggle, he needs his own story line. I cringed very hard during the last episode when he was going around as a love messenger. It infuriated me. What the frak happened to H.I.V.E?

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Does the simple mention of Laurel hurt you so much?"
"Agreed, I never got the intense hate she recieves (well I get the reasonable points about being unlikable at times but the shipper related hate is just beyond me)"

Those two sentences are not related at all?!

    ReplyDelete
  35. No, in two different conversations koky, you comment here a lot and have brought up quite a few reasons to at least make me understand your dislike for her. You know what annoys me about the Felicity overexposure as well...so why not leave it at that?

The people I was talking about were the ones that sent Katie Cassidy freaking death threats after her saying that she was convinced about Oliver and Laurel ending up together when asked what she thought about Olicity (other words such as b...h and c...t were used as well).

You know...blow it out of proportion, really...do as you wish.
"Do as I say, not as I do"

    ReplyDelete
  36. They are waiting for that one episode for showing Diggle's brother and giving us a nugget about H.I.V.E. Then it's wait for next season again.

They may not kill Felicity off. But she does not have any source material to borrow stories from. Her and Diggle are at a disadvantage. And the show is only interested in bringing on comic book characters now. I would have loved some original characters introduced for the development of these two characters. Felicity is stuck with ray now but we know ray has a whole lot of history in the comics which has nothing to do with felicity. Why wouldn't they make new mythology and story lines for their new characters.

    ReplyDelete
  37. there's no disadvantage for Felicity, trust me...just look at the massive fandom behind her...

    ReplyDelete
  38. however, I do apologize if it came off as rude, you call me out all the time about my concerns so I thought it was just fair to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why is everybody asking me this tonight. I am totally writing this stuff out of my head. I think sending her away somewhere with League, with Lady Shiva or even Katana and Huntress for the hiatus will do good for the character. She can come back next season and be more competent than what she was this season.

Fans think they have the lobbying power. Writers give these fans hope and give them the impression their demands matter. So if Laurel goes away at the end of this season. I can see internet fighting picking up a notch.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well yeah kinda the whole point of Laurel in season 2 was really just to f*ck up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think she will.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Malcolm is a series regular but has hardly been used...insane to waste an actor as good as him!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. she would have ended up hated anyway

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well the Arrow variants are now comic characters (except Thea but she's basically this show's Mia Dearden and given her connection to Malcolm and training she'll probably become a vigilante/possible hero at some point) so I doubt they'll die. And Felicity is so beloved by both the writers and fans and even critics (look up Alan Sepinwall's comments about EBR and an emmy) that she's basically this show's Daryl Dixon.

    ReplyDelete
  45. True but to a far lesser extent.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Luckily Katie Cassidy is good at badass/ fight scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't mind if you disagree with me and call me out on my dislike for Laurel like I do when you are annoyed with how much exposure Felicity is getting (and if you remember I did agree that they were over promoting Felicity) but the way the comment was phrased made it feel like an attack and for what? all I said was "oh joy" (it's not like I was cursing her name or something or even attacking her) because I am annoyed of how much Laurel there is this season; which would've been fine if they were handling her story in a good way that would make me enjoy her journey and find a reason to like her, but all they are doing is giving me more reasons to dislike her and not be able to connect with her more and now I have to suffer through that for 4 episodes in a row, and the Climb is the first episode that we will see her as BC that's why I included it and everybody in this site knows how I feel about her becoming BC this soon.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't think then you have to worry mac. If they can make Colton Haynes look competent enough fighter they can easily make Katie look bad ass. Colton won't do even the smallest of his fight scenes. I have never feared for her looking bad during fight scenes. They have good stunt doubles and Katie looks like a hard worker. So that's a given.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The love messenger bit didn't bug me because that's just Diggle being the good kind person he is looking out for his friends. That and it reminded me of a great scene in Chuck vs. The American Hero.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow he is the opposite of Amell. That guy does so much. Wait I've heard he did that flip in The Magician.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm really sorry if I came off as confrontational, I really didn't intend to attack you.

I feel you on this, I was excited for what they announced about Laurel prior to season 3 but what we were served with actually rings worse to me than season 2. Like Graydon pointed it out: she was ment to be unlikable in season 2. Now she's not ment to be un-connectable but I don't feel her, less than last year even when I felt for her.
I get that her strong and agressive outside is supposed to mask her pain but it's inconsistent with her other ways of grief.
I can't judge the Canary turn yet, because for all i know she could suit up like a hero and fail like no hero ever did.

A costume doesen't give her the experience needed.
If she kicks ass and is a full blown hero (like Roy) after the Climb I'll call BS too, I'll give the writers (Kreisberg that is) the benefit of the doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am tired crying about Malcolm,Thea and Diggle. At least Felicity is improving from last season. This show can only give one character a season long arc apart from Oliver. Whether done right or wrong that is laurel. We better accept that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well I'm not surprised at Colton not doing his stunts, when I had his physique I felt tired and incapable of even running for longer than 10 minutes. Starved down to no end.

The stunt crew is pretty amazing but Katie has a pretty unique figure so I'm worried that we'll see the difference between double and Katie.

    fingers crossed though

    ReplyDelete
  54. He did?!! I saw several interviews from Colton who said the parkour scene with Sin season 2 was done by his double. He never does any because he was badly injured when he first tried to do a stunt in Teen Wolf. I find Roy's action scenes on the show most choreographed and artificial. Amell and Caity were so good. Caity's body language during fights were impressive. We could make out it was her on several scenes. I think KC will do fine in action scenes. I heard both Caity and KC has same stunt double. I don't know how that works as they both have different body type.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ellie's speech to Chuck? That is something completely different.

    ReplyDelete
  56. She has the same stunt double as Caity Lotz it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's what I heard not sure if it's true. I like Roy's action scenes because they differ from Oliver's by being more acrobatic, but yeah they feel less real than Amell's or Lotz's. Really huh wonder which episode it was. As long as they do quick cuts and edits it'll probably be fine. Plus as long as they're not too out there I could see Katie Cassidy doing most of her stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The stunt scenes with Thea were not very good though. You could clearly see the stunt.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Well seeing as Merlyn is my favourite I'm obligated to whine about it :P

I wanted more for Felicity but a love triangle, her backstory with her mom was fine but the hacker cliché didn't appease me.

I would've loved for Felicity to have been a former CIA intern that left because of questionable doings within, from then on she stopped believing in the justice system and joined QA. Only through Oliver and Diggle her faith into justice was restored.

It would've felt a lot more personalized.

A guy on imdb posted this video link

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnRkghMQxkg

I've never seen Criminal Minds but after watching the promo I grew angry with the writers.

Because opposite to popular believe I think that the writers couldn't care less about Felicity, the character, and only utilize her as a popularity magnet. Wich is disrespectful of the character

    ReplyDelete
  60. No Casey's speech to Sarah.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ooh!!! I remember now. I still disagree though. Difference of night and day between the context of the scene in Chuck with the scene in Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  62. They have to have everything revolve around Oliver. It's their biggest crutch when it comes to writing for the other characters. The other characters lose relevance or are relegated just because their prospective story line doesn't jive with Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah it was pretty different. It also went far better, well until Shaw showed up. It's still weird to me how charismatic Routh is as Palmer compared to as Shaw in Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Don't remind me of Plywood. The only fictional character that I absolutely hate nay loathe with a burning passion.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Really wouldn't call that a character assassination Mac. And Malcolm well he's too much of an antagonist to really write interaction wise with anyone but Thea, as it could be really OOC if not done properly.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ah the 2x4. I liked him as a villain. He was no Volkoff but still good. But protagonist? Not so good.

    ReplyDelete
  67. #IBlameShaw ;) :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. But then she wouldn't be as light and I'd be sad.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Lol. Oh God I still remember the Sham time (Sam and Shaw) where fans threatened to boycott to force the writers to re put Chuck and Sarah together.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I really think people are jumping the gun here; it only says that 10-12 have a Laurel arc, not that they are going to be Laurel focused, at all.

It is far more likely we will be seeing another plot development in these episodes as well, one that is more likely to be the "A" plot.

If Ollie goes missing, his search will definitely be the predominant plot.

    ReplyDelete
  71. When they did this last season, I wasn't pleased. (Nor was anyone else really) There were a few scenes, (mostly Roy's and Sin's) that I liked. But the whole 4 episode Laurel chapter was just.....sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Honestly, what it says is that 10-12 will have a Laurel arc, not that Laurel is going to be the main plot. If spoilers are true, The main plot will definitely revolve around the aftermath of Oliver's disappearance.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Good thought about Laurel going away during the hiatus. But going away with Nyssa because she(Nyssa) herself has left the LoS to get away from Ra's would be an even more awesome story line. Two of them surviving on their own, dodging and escaping the League's assassins and all the while Laurel gets trained by Nyssa.

What may happen though could be one of two: She will continue to train even more harder with Ted Grant

    OR

Oliver finally decides to train her full time. Hmm, Oliver and Laurel in the Arrow cave, training, fighting, sparring, jousting, bodies coming into constant physical contact. Old, buried sexual tension rising to the surface. Perfect recipe for chaos. Nothing against shippers in general, but it would be hilarious to see the fandom reactions if it comes to that.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am vexed with this show handling any character that is not Oliver, and I have seriously not being caring for Oliver this season that much.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Can u get out of my face. Don't be a troll.

    ReplyDelete
  76. It was a very dark period. Chuckpocalypse, it was called. I was a very active fan back then. Chuck and Sarah is the only ship that I ever got emotionally invested in. After that, I have become a non shipper. Just don't care about ships anymore.

Also, apart from that very OOC, forced Sham arc, there were some atrocious moments (not ship related) in 3x11 and 3x12 that made me almost quit the show. Glad that I stuck around.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Not gonna lie I liked the first half a lot. Sarah and Shaw were awful, but Strahovski's acting and ability to sell Sarah's pain over Chuck becoming an agent and that being the reason for their terrible relationship worked for me. Yeah that show was the most shipper-y I ever got. That finale (I really liked the ending) got me.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Please don't put images into my mind. Oliver and Laurel and sexual tension eww. I would leave the show the moment they put Oliver and Laurel together in the next 3 seasons at least. Even then I will most probably leave the show. It's a personal choice. After the sister swapping I will never accept that relationship. Put Oliver with anyone else I don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  79. "If Ollie goes missing, his search will definitely be the predominant plot."

Oh God!! I just realized, there's a lot of potential material there for fandom fights. "This character cared/show emotion about Oliver missing, this character showed care/emotion but not as much as Character 1. This character actively searched for Oliver, this character didn't. This character deserves him, this character doesn't.

You see where I am going with this. ;) :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. "After the sister swapping I will never accept that relationship."

And that's one of the reasons I dislike Oliver very much. Huge douchenozzle.

    ReplyDelete
  81. They called it a three part triology about Laurel it sounds like the main plot. I don't think it will be but the wordings do sound the episode is all about laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Give her chance. She pulled off badass in Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ruby was one of my favorites. Along with Bella. Too bad the show was too afraid of the crazy fandom to keep these strong women characters around the two boys.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Dude, seriously that was. 7 Years Ago. I've already given her props for that. It doesn't hold up anymore. I've given her more than enough chances. I'm over her. Indefinitely. And me "facepalming" about it, is/was the nicest i could be over this news.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I really don't agree, specially with the track record they have with episodes not being with what they say they are going to be.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I said Felicity is improving because last season she interacted only with people who graced the foundry. This season she is visiting central city few times. Her mom came and she has a connection to ray Palmer and thus his plans for the city. Also the romance track with Oliver. That is way more than what she had last season.

Am I happy with what material she is getting on screen. No not completely. As you said her hacker background was very cliche. They could have done better even with the goth phase. But let me assure you even with all the cliche Felicity's arc was way better than Garcia's in criminal minds. I wouldn't mind romance for Felicity had they done it right and put a little bit more effort in writing creatively. Last season they used her to prop Barry Allen. There was no other reason for a short term romance between the two. This year they are using her to push Ray Palmer forward. But at least it gave her a prominent job position in QC.

What I want for Felicity in future seasons is an arc where she is forced to work with Argus for a stretch. That would be great.

I do not complain about her arc because being a Felicity fan if I do that people will say I only care about Felicity and I blindly hate on others. Any way there is at least some movement on her front. Diggle, Thea and Malcolm is so vastly unused.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I noticed especially that sword fight with Malcolm in the end of Corto Maltese. We have to see how Katie's stunt double works for her.

    ReplyDelete
  88. "And me "facepalming" about it, is/was the nicest i could be over this news."

Facepalming? Come now, self harm is taking it a bit too far.

    :P ;) :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Urgh, now you made me sad :(

    ReplyDelete
  90. Says the troll whose comment was "facepalm"

    ReplyDelete
  91. It's OK, water under the bridge

I tried to keep an open mind in the beginning of the season since she is going to get more scenes and will get a bigger role and a better storyline than season 2 (what a big mess that was) but seriously they made me dislike her more, I never thought that was possible, I get that anger is a misdirected grief I know it but I don't feel it, there's being angry because you're grieving and in pain that would've made me connect with her and feel bad for her, and there's anger because you are an angry person in general and that's how her anger is coming across I swear I feel Dig's grief more than hers, in the first episode when Sara died in front of her and when the team found her in the foundry standing in front of Sara's body in the second episode my heart broke for her, seriously for a brief moment I was a Laurel's fan (I know I can't believe I said it either) but that lasted for like 10 mins and she went back to being angry, annoying, bossy, irrational and whinny and that's when I knew that me trying to like Laurel is a hopeless cause.

I'm not sure if her failing is going to make me feel better, I wanted her to be good and earn being BC before wearing the suit and the mask, but what they are doing feels like "we are desperate people need something big to happen to Laurel so you know what let's make her assume the BC mantle with a mask and a full costume and everything and then take it from there" and that's as bad as making her a full fledged hero so soon, I wanted the scene when we finally see her in a BC costume to be a big moment, like "yess that feels right she deserves this" not wear it and get beaten up and fail, I mean I was so excited when Oliver finally wore the mask in 2x9 and he was already a hero for a year and a half but it felt like a big deal, and even when Roy wore that mask in 2x23 even though his story wasn't much better than Laurel's but at least he was struggling with being a hero the whole season not for 6 episodes!!!! I hope they prove me wrong because after all it's one of my favourite shows and I want to enjoy every storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Oh no worries. I didn't harm myself. Lol it wasn't a hard Facepalm.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Jesus that was unnecessarily harsh. I mentioned that because that role was the only comparable one Cassidy has done in regards to action. Okay hate the character. I have to point out that Laurel was intentionally written to be unlikeable in two though.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Ummm, mostly all these comments are negative. And YOU want to be a jerk and make some stupid noise, b/c I don't like the news? Wtf kinda childish shit is that?? I left my negative comment short and simple. If you don't like it, then you don't like it, but don't be immature about a comment just b/c your opinion differs from mine.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yeah Supernatural is rather misogynistic at times. Even Mischa Collins takes issue with that. But in regards to Ruby and Bella they are some of the few female Supernatural characters whose fates I feel were earned and a necessity to the story and (in particular Ruby's case) to the characters of Sam and Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I agree about Ruby's case because the character story sort of ended in S4 but Bella - she had a huge potential to be a major recurring character.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I didn't say it to be harsh, I said it b/c it's true. I don't buy into that whole, "she was intentionally written to be unlinked" crap. There's been plenty of terrible characters that were written to be unlikeable and everyone turns around loving them. And besides, during season 1. I disliked her, season 2. Is when I hated her.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Honestly, yours (and Babar's) is the only negative comment that brings nothing, it does not present any sort of argument. At least other people are part of the discussion; most present constructive criticism.

If the only thing you come here to do is throw negativity, I have no love for you.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Serious question...do you write??? Some of your ideas are really good and if even a fraction were used on the show would elevate the show to a much greater degree!!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I know right, I'm so excited! HAHAHAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah it was him I saw his face.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Whateverrrr. That's the point of a short comment. There's no need to be an "argument". Everything is summed up in that one word. That's the point. Nothing else needs to be said.

First of all, I always leave long comments, you and everyone on this freaking site knows that. And MOST of my comments are positive ESPECIALLY when it comes to Arrow., so don't give me that "The only thing you can do is come on here and throw negativity" shit. B/c it's bull and you know it. You're just being pissy b/c I don't like her. And there's nothing wrong with that. And I'm not looking for your "love", "you get on my nerves 50% of the time anyway. We rarely agree on anything, so with that in mind, how bout you just leave me alone, and we leave it at that, b/c I'm honestly not in the mood for you today.

  103. when I find the time I do, usually it's easier to make stuff better afterwards though and I get why the writers wrote Felicitys arc more simplistic: because you can't expect a wide audience with mostly saddening stories.
    But thank you mate :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I will say this; I'm getting really tired that any news related to Laurel get flooded with negativity. Do you have to have your Laurel hate circle jerk here? Let people be excited, you can go hate on her somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  105. In general how would you write the second half of the season?

    ReplyDelete
  106. But she was. No one writes a drug use storyline and has a character lash out out everyone only to verbally reprimanded by another (Oliver) with any other intention of doing so to purposefully make a character unlikeable.

    ReplyDelete
  107. LOL! I would literally pay to see the shippers reaction to that!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Felicity will be fine, even with no storyline of her own she'll continue on the show. She's Arrows Chloe, an original -or almost original- character with lots of fan support and a favourite to the writters. They'll find a place for her, even if it's only to enable Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm not saying she wasn't. I'm saying iI don't buy it and it doesn't matter what they "tried" to do "intentionally" b/c she was disliked way before that.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yeah but to a far lesser extent.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Rush did it pretty well.

But I agree TPTB were not setting out to make her likable here.

    ReplyDelete
  112. They aren't going to find a stunt double that is as skinny as she is. They'll have to make her wear loose clothes to try to pass it off in the future. Cause her stunt double was ripped.

    ReplyDelete
  113. You are talking about episode 2x14, right? The other day i was having a conversation with my sister(she really, REALLY, hates Laurel... a lot!) about Laurel and that episode always comes to mind as to why i think the writers don't care about the character: They write Oliver and Sara making lovely eyes at each other, on a Lance family dinner, with her sister who is in a very dark place... And yet we're to believe Laurel is the bad girl there? She's not! Post-Island Oliver was an asshole to her again! She should be furious. I get Laurel trying to fix her relationship with Sara(not in the way they did it tbh, because they actually made Laurel apologize to Sara... WTF?!) because she's her sister...

BUT THE NEXT EPISODE SHE IS GIVING OLIVER DATING ADVICES AND SHE'S COOL WITH HIM?! SHE'S TELLING HIM SHE KNOWS HIM BETTER THAN ANYONE TWO EPISODES LATER?!

The writers make her be angry when needed and be an idiot if needed... How can you expect people to like her if she has no believable reaction to what happens around her?

I don't think is a matter of her storyline but the way she reacts to stuff and the actions she take and a lot of comments without ground...

    That's all the writers fault...

    ReplyDelete
  114. The writers are literally devoting episodes they call the Black Canary trilogy this season to Laurel. They care about her.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I liked Rush. It wasn't great but it was good.

    ReplyDelete
  116. What they say and what they do are two diferent things... One example: 3x06 was going to be a Roy centric episode and ended up being a normal episode with shared focus on Laurel, Ted and Roy.

If you care about a character, when you put it on a setting and that prompt a question; you answear it on character... Characters are develped by actions.

One episode she knows how to defend herself, the other doesn't know how to use a gun. There are tons of examples like this...

The truth is, while i like the actress(and think she's one of the reasons the character worked this long) the writing is a total mess... I don't see they doing that to any other character tbh. So why her? I came to the conclusion that they don't like how they created the character and now they have to live with that...

About that "trilogy", i need to see it first... Sorry if i don't trust them regarding Laurel. I have way too many valid reasons.

If they air 3x10 to 3x13 and do a good job i'll be here saying how much i loved the episodes(i actually tought she was well written on episode 3x06, my fav episode from this season)... But i won't do a jump of faith regarding them writing Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Yeah, what happened to HIVE?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Me too! I think amazing things are coming..Laurel had so many bad histories and arcs on the show, so it's good she will finally have something really interesting and good to work wih it! Bring it on!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. See, i don't get this... I like Olicity and i don't dislike Laurel because of that. The truth is that if she ends up with Oliver it would be a downer for me, but it wouldn't be the first show i don't like the main pairing(nothing can be worse than the HIMYM ending, tbh).

The point is i don't like the character because it has no sense: they need her to handle herself, then she knows how to defend herself. They need she to be a damsel in distress, so she doesn't know how to use a gun. They need to create drama, let's have Oliver be an asshole to her... but next episode we need them to be nice, so lets make her give him some relationship advice.

One of the things i hate about the character is that they write her as if she knows Oliver better than anyone(she even said that a few times)... Well, they surely didn't show that... Those are just empty words.

So my problem with her, like many others is with how the writers handled her from Season 1B to now. Her Season 2 arc by itself is very good. The problem is when they try to force the other characters into her story.

I'm liking her on Season 3 a bit more... But i'm not gonna take a leap of faith. If they do 3x10-13 and are good episode i'll say it. I like my show as a whole. I like the action first and most. The character of Laurel on a good path is only gonna make the show better.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Maybe for 3B? 3A had a very prominent Felicity side story(much needed tbh), so perhaps we'll get a Diggle centric arc after they do the Laurel "trilogy".

The EPs said they didn't forget about HIVE.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Having no comic background is better... Believe me. They're a blank page.

Honestly, their egos may look like the Empire State. The two characters they created and relaunched are now the current "canon Team" in the comics.

Diggle and Felicity are not going anywhere... Roy may leave at some point. Even a Black Canary spin off may happen. But those two are not going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Damn that sounds very cool and would make for a really exciting second half!!! It would also make for great character development to see Oliver/SA stretch himself and show some serious growth as an actor!! If only the writers could read some of this....

    ReplyDelete
  123. Then why do everyone expect people like @Shannon to enjoy her story line. Let them dislike her. Unlike what people who love Laurel believes there are reasons for some of the audience to be fed up with this character.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Every Olicity related news in this forum will have at least few "Not here for the Olicity crap." "Felicity is a character defined by romance only she does nothing else posts". It's not exclusive for Laurel as you believe.
Why is it necessary everyone has to love the direction the show is going. You enjoy what you enjoy. Let others be. Sing Laurel's praises if you want to. Discuss with like minded people and just ignore people who don't like her. It is not that hard. This is an open forum not a fan club where negative opinions cannot be voiced.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I never said felicity will be written off the show. With the show moving close to the comics every new story line happening is being taken almost straight from the comics. Where does Felicity and Diggle fit in there? They don't have history like any of the other characters. I'd rather Felicity be written off than be made an attachment to stories where she does not have a place.

    ReplyDelete
  126. People having a differing opinion doesn't preclude you from being excited.

    ReplyDelete
  127. The it is your prerrogative to as people not to throw hate at Olicity and Felicity.

What I'm getting at is the difference between negativity and criticism; for instance, I believe your sentiments to be negative towards Laurel as a general rule, but you always frame it with good arguments and critical thinking. I am not against that. What I'm against is the plain "Laurel sucks" negativity, and Felicity negativity for that matter; saying a character sucks doesn't bring anything to the discussion. If you can actually explain why do you think the character sucks, awesome!

Now, if you think it is out of line of me asking for a basic level for the discussion, that's up to you; but I'd rather we had discussions about the characters, the writing and plot than "Laurel sucks" posts.

You will not hear me say "Olicity sucks" because that's reductive. But I will say that Olicity was rushed in order to pander to the fanbase, which hurt the organic development of the relationship IMO. And the "I can't be with youuu thing" is just lazy writing. I am not happy with the way Olicity developed, Amell and EBR have a lot of chemistry, and I really feel it was wasted.

    ReplyDelete
  128. That's interesting, because for me, Oliver telling her off helped her. The same way Lance telling her she was dumb about the riot squad helped her. It gave her a genuine character moment with someone else and let her come to terms with how she was behaving. I can forgive recklessness or self-centered behavior, if the character is repentant. Both instances gave her a chance to turn stuff around.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You have 3 comments in this thread just 3 in which one says meh, another facepalm and the last says 4 Laurel heavy episodes Oh Joy... What is wrong with that. No one here said. I want Laurel to die, Laurel needs to get away from my screen, KC is horrible. If people want to express their disappointment in the way their favorite show is going using one word, one sentence or an essay that is their right to do so. If they abuse an actor yes they need to be called out. If they bring in a particular character unnecessarily into a discussion just to bash they need to be called out like last episode discussion thread some one brought in Laurel just to bash her character.

I dislike Laurel and I am apprehensive about where her character is heading. Until they write her well and give me reason to like her I will repeatedly say I dislike the character and the way she is written. Just like people who dislike Olicity has the right to do so. If you look down this thread people are really civil in their discussions. We talked about writing in general for the show, other characters and Laurel too. In every thread there is someone who comes late to the party and say "Oh look at all the haters" without even looking at what we are talking about. Just because a thread has more than 100 comments does not mean it is a hate fest.

Neither you nor me own this forum. This is an open forum to discuss all aspects of Arrow which includes Laurel too. You can't ask people to go somewhere else just because you can't accept people may hate a character you like.

    ReplyDelete
  130. The love messenger thing would not have stood out as a sore point if they had given Diggle an episode or even few scenes where there was some movement to his investigation into H.I.V.E. before 3x07. Diggle is friends with both Oliver and Felicity it is natural for him to being the wise person between them. But it's when they reduce him to only that there is an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  131. But that's mostly how she's always been written. Until recently outside of team Arrow she had no life of her own, aparently. TBH, as long as she's quirky, clumsy, geeky Felicity and not lovestruck, angstridden Felicity, I'm ok with it.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I don't love Laurel. I mildly disliked her in one, hated her in two. Only now do I actually like her somewhat. I just like KC and want to see her turn as a character that I can unapologetically enjoy. The reason I said that stuff is because it just makes me sad seeing people enjoy a show less, and I honestly just want people to give the writers a chance to do something with Laurel without automatic hate or bias.

    ReplyDelete
  133. You have faith in writers and you look forward to coming 4 episodes because you like the way she is written till now in season 3. Like you I also find season 3 the best of Laurel. But I am already tired of her anger. But that's me. I am curious about what is coming next.

But people like @Shannon and many others are still not able to connect with her character that is not automatic hate or bias. For them the journey of this season has not worked or maybe they are unable to forget the crappy writing that happened through out two seasons. People can enjoy the show and dislike a character. If they did not enjoy the show they will not watch it every week.

People like to cry it's bias, it's hate when it comes to Laurel. We all have bias. We have people here who loathe Olicity, Felicity, Roy, Thea, Sara and I have seen people who even dislike Malcolm. I don't see anyone screaming hate or bias or even change their minds when one of those comments come up. It's just that Laurel stands out because more number of people dislike the character. Let people be and let them make their own opinion.

  134. Colton doesn't do stunts though. He once said his double is the real Roy Harper.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I've seen Katie's current double and she doesn't look like Atlin Mitchell. She looks more like an actress/model.

    ReplyDelete
  136. That is what I said above. Huh??

    ReplyDelete
  137. I'm not trying to force or change an opinion. I just feel hate write off the bat without any evidence regarding Laurel as Black Canary is excessive.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I am so excited for this! I hope the writers are taking this seriously and attempting to make her more likable. I love Laurel. She's my favorite character. I'm getting tired of the hate but I really feel like this is their chance to "right their wrongs" so to speak. I'm looking forward to it. I love Black Canary. With Marc Guggeinheim recently stating he's no longer opposed to including supernatural abilities in Arrow, I'm really hoping to see a Canary Cry soon!

    ReplyDelete
  139. I am not an authority on this. I just read somewhere tumblr I think where some one said both ladies had same doubles. I think it was after that first photo of stunt doubles with new canary costume hit. I don't follow any cast or crew on twitter so I have no idea about such stuff.

So Caity's stunt double is the same for Nyssa. Wow.. Both ladies have so different body types and height. I never noticed on screen. I hope KC gets a double with her lean body type and height.
