ABC ANNOUNCES PREMIERE DATES FOR “AMERICAN CRIME” AND “SECRETS AND LIES”

Explosive two hour season finale of “How to Get Away with Murder” airs February 26

ABC announced premiere dates today for Oscar winner John Ridley’s groundbreaking new drama “American Crime,” and gripping murder mystery “Secrets and Lies,” starring Ryan Phillippe and Juliette Lewis.

In addition, the season finale of the hit ABC drama “How to Get Away with Murder” will air on Thursday, February 26 (9:00-11:00 PM).

The 10 episode drama series “Secrets and Lies” premieres Sunday, March 1 (special time 9:00-11:00 PM; regular time slot 9:00-10:00 PM), and 11 episode “American Crime” premieres Thursday, March 5 (10:00-11:00 PM).

AMERICAN CRIME -- A young couple in Modesto, California were brutally attacked in their home leaving Matt Skokie, a war vet, murdered, and his wife, Gwen, unconscious, barely hanging on. The crime sends shock waves throughout the community stirring up tensions across socioeconomic and racial lines in this gritty new drama - from the points of view of all those involved.

“American Crime” stars Felicity Huffman as Barb Hanlon, Timothy Hutton as Russ Skokie, W. Earl Brown as Tom Carlin, Richard Cabral as Hector Tontz, Caitlin Gerard as Aubry Taylor, Benito Martinez as Alonzo Gutiérrez, Penelope Ann Miller as Eve Carlin, Elvis Nolasco as Carter Nix and Johnny Ortiz as Tony Gutiérrez.

“American Crime” was written, directed and produced by Oscar winning screenwriter John Ridley (“12 Years A Slave”). Executive producers are John Ridley and Michael J. McDonald. “American Crime” is produced by ABC Studios.

SECRETS AND LIES – Ben Crawford (Ryan Phillippe) is about to go from Good Samaritan to murder suspect after he discovers the body of his neighbor's young son, Tom Murphy, in the woods. Even as Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) digs for the truth in her investigation and pegs Ben as a “Person Of Interest,” the case unfolds from Ben’s perspective -- whether he is guilty or not. In trying to clear his name, it is Ben who peels back the layers of these suburbanites’ lives in their quiet cul de sac, revealing their dirty little deceptions and all-too-crowded closets overflowing with skeletons. No one is above suspicion. Ben’s family’s life, already privately in disarray, is turned upside down as he sets out on a complicated journey to prove his innocence.

“Secrets and Lies” stars Ryan Phillippe (“Damages,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Flags of Our Fathers”) as Ben Crawford, Juliette Lewis (“August Osage County”) as Detective Cornell, KaDee Strickland (“Private Practice”) as Christy Crawford, Natalie Martinez (“Under the Dome,” “CSI: NY”) as Jess Murphy, Dan Fogler (“The Goldberg’s,” “Hannibal”) as Dave Lindsey, Indiana Evans (“Blue Lagoon: The Awakening”) as Natalie Crawford and Belle Shouse as Abby Crawford.

Barbie Kligman (“Private Practice”) developed the mystery thriller, which is based on the original Australian series “Secrets & Lies,” created by Stephen Irwin. The teleplay for “Secrets and Lies’” series pilot, entitled “The Trail” is by Kligman, who also executive produced along with Aaron Kaplan (“Chasing Life,” “The Neighbors,” “Mysteries of Laura”), Tracey Robertson, Nathan Mayfield and Charles McDougall (“Resurrection”), who also directed the pilot. Executive producers of “Secrets and Lies” include Kligman for Avenue K Productions, Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment, Robertson and Mayfield for Hoodlum Entertainment and Timothy Busfield. “Secrets and Lies” is a production of ABC Studios.

  1. Yes, I'm so glad we have a premiere date for Secrets and Lies! I'm going to be sad to lose HTGAWM in February, though.

  2. Two hour season finale of HTGAWM! But it's annoying how early it ends.

  3. So ABC switched AM and S&C. I think it's because they want AC to be a success and they probably don't care about S&C.

  4. And no news about The Whispers and Members Only !

  5. I was waiting for secrets and lie's premiere date for so long now!

  6. Wait what? I thought the announced at the upfronts that American Crime will premiere after Resurrection ends and Secrets and Lies will after HTGAWM ends? Why did they switch the two?

Also, why is ABC announcing mid-season premiere dates in pairs. Why not announce all of them together?

  7. Don't know why ABC doesn't announced them all together? First Galavant and AC. Now these two?

  8. I wonder why that is, too. Both are ABC productions, so why would that care about one show and not the other.

  9. LOL, this is the same network that kills us at Upfronts because they renew shows one by one instead of sending out a press release with all of them.

  10. Didn't even notice that HTGAWM season finale is two hours!!

  11. Because I think ABC ordered S&C only because it had a series penalty.

  12. Wow HTGAWM is ending so early! And an explosive two-hour finale, can't wait!

Also, apparently they switched American Crime and Secrets & Lies. Why would they do that?

  13. I would've preferred Secret and Lies to have the 10 pm slot on Thurdays but well...

  14. Secrets and lies and American crime swapped. I guess secrets and lies will be revenge's lead in

  15. I think American crime better suits their Thursday lineup with a political theme following Scandal. But that is only my perception. That is at least my perception. It would be so much easier for me if AC would air on Sundays but Thursday will still be my death day.

  16. So secrets and lies is only a Mini series?

  17. Gracepoint has tanked on FOX, and as a result ABC can not feel that confident about Secrets and Lies (another 10 episode long murder mystery) being successful. While American Crime is ABC attempting to do a prestige like cable series on ABC from the writer of 12 Years a Slave so it makes more sense to me why ABC would give American Crime what ABC likely believes to be the better timeslot.

  18. I would guess that Secrets and Lies is like Gracepoint, a self contained 10 episode season long murder mystery show, but if Secrets and Lies is a hit, than there will be a second season. ABC could make it an anthology series like AHS, Fargo and True Detective.

  19. I'm so excited!

  20. Yeah i agree. Let us hope it successful! I might be watching it but American crime's trailer put me to sleep

  21. I wonder how it can get better after tomorrow's episode

  22. court trial for whoever killed sam

  23. So if both series run without any repeats, American Crime ends on May 14 and Secrets & Lies on April 26. I wonder why Secrets & Lies has a two-hour premiere though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maybe because OUAT will have a 2H season finale on May 3.

  25. I was thinking about The Whispers and how it's not mentioned much and remember it has faced some problems with changing its filming location from LA to Canada. Some cast members were not pleased. Maybe it could be one of the reasons for all this delay and lack of a premiere date.
