The Good Wife - Season 6 - Archie Panjabi to Exit

Thanks to Justin for the heads up.

Emmy winner Archie Panjabi will exit The Good Wife at the close of Season 6, our sister site Deadline reports, at which time her current pact with the acclaimed CBS series ends.

“Archie is an amazing actress who helped build Kalinda from the ground up as an enigmatic, powerful, and sexy character,” Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King said in a statement. “It’s been a pleasure to write for her, and we’ll be sad to see her go; but we still have her for the rest of Season 6, so let’s not exhaust our good-byes yet.

Next up for the actress: As part of a brand-new development/holding deal with 20th Century Fox TV, she will headline an unnamed drama pilot, to be filmed this spring and considered for the 2015-16 TV season.

  1. Unsurprising considering how much Julianna Margulies hates her and the character and has sidelined her.

  2. Awww, I'm so disappointed by this news :( Kalinda is one of my favorite characters on the show and it will be tough to say goodbye to her at the end of the season. Now I hope she and Alicia will have at least ONE scene together before her departure. Seriously, they haven't shared a scene together since season 4 and that was always really puzzling to me.

  3. WHAT?! I have never heard about this before. Do you have any proof, please?

  4. WHY?!?! First Josh Charles, now this. Thank god they didn't make a surprise out of it, or I'd be heartbroken yet again.

  5. If the show is cancelled, and that can totally happen given the ratings, she won't have to leave.

  6. I've also heard this rumour and I never really believed it but someone pointed out how Kalinda and Alicia never have scenes together, even years after their fall out and yeah it seems really weird they wouldn't interact more so I kind of think something is up

  7. S7 seems like it will be the last anyway, not that I want the show to end but its not like the regular CBS procedurals it is way more serialised and has a limited life span and I would rather it go out on a high. So basically Archie leaving doesn't seem like a major loss in the long term, they have struggled with her character a lot though I do like where they are headed with her this season.

  8. It is speculation but the two actresses have not had a single scene together for at least 35 episodes.

  9. I know that but Sara said that Julianna hates Archie which really shocked me. It's all a rumor?

  10. Just spec considering how vocal Julianna is about not liking Kalinda, how she has say over storylines, how much Archie's screentime has diminished, how they haven't shared a single scene in almost two years. It's conjecture and I was exaggerating but it's likely not far off because absolutely destroying a pillar relationship with the emotional depths still to be plumbed (especially for a show like the good wife) is just suspicious as hellll.

  11. Seriously? Maybe this has something to do with how the story developed, considering Kalinda was Alicia's best friend and she later found out the woman had slept with her husband, not with Julianna's relationship with Archie.
To me, what would be awkward was to have Alicia immediately forgive Kalinda and have them back as buddies in no time.

We gotta have proof before saying this kind of thing, guys, otherwise it just becomes a witch hunt.

  13. Well that's upsetting. It's so sad having to say goodbye to a character with so
much potential and so brilliantly portrayed by a remarkable actress.
    On
the other hand, the only weak point in the writing of the show is
exactly Kalinda's storyline progression (or lack thereof) post-s2. I loved
Kalinda/Alicia's friendship (or was it unrequited love?), but the end of that friendship should not have been the end of Kalinda's development. Imo,
the writers wasted most of her screentime post-s2 on meaningless
hook-ups, instead of developing the platonic relationships in her life -
    Kalinda/Will, Kalinda/Diane, Kalinda/Robyn etc.
Anyway, I hope they're not planning on killing her off the way they killed off Will because that'd be far too much to handle. ;(

  14. This is a shame. I hope she's back for a few episodes in season 7 if it is indeed the last season.

  15. Too bad. Kalinda was such an awesome character the first couple of seasons. Not liking her as much lately though, she should've just remained friends with Cary for example. She's lost some spunk me thinks. But she's still probably my favorite character and I'll miss her. Thankfully we'll see Archie in The Fall S2 and this upcoming project. I do think there's some truth to the rumors about JM not liking the actress, Kelli Giddish (Sophia Russo) tweeted though that she loves working with Archie so I hope Sophia comes back for Kalindas last ep and the two of them run off together. Best case scenario in my book anyways :)

I think for the most part, people are less annoyed with their lack of "friendship" and more annoyed with the fact that the writers don't want to address it. And based off of previous comments by RK about not wanting to get into it with Julianna over the relationship, it's pretty obvious that SOMETHING is going on. They spent two seasons building it up, a season breaking them apart, and now they mostly just ignore it (and Kalinda as a result). It isn't about them being friends again - though I'm with the crowd who is fully in support of that. Even in life - you run into people you've had bad experiences with all the time - especially those who operate within the same workplace sphere. It is FAR more "unreal" to have these two have zero contact with each other than it would be to have an awkward convo in the courtroom hallway about Alicia leaving LG and not telling K. Or any number of other comparable scenarios. And the drama would have been better for it.

Do I personally think that it's because JM's got something against Archie? I dunno. Maybe, maybe not. But I do think she has something against the character. And I do think that she's been against any sort of reconciliation from the outset. And I do think she probably put her foot down on some of the narratives that the Kings were looking to explore. And since no one is really willing to address the issue (with any sort of plausible or real answer), everyone is left thinking that this falls on JM's head. Because the Kings started out telling a very different story and if they had their way, I suspect we'd see A/K in a very different place.

Its sad, for grown professional women to behave in this manner, if the rumor is true. Which after reading the comments, I kinda doubt. Working professionals don't have to get along....but they do have to behave professionally. So I can't see that the writers would not put them together just because of off screen stuff. Seems catty and overly childish, IMO.

  19. Best of luck to Panjabi. I know the chance to headline her own series is a big temptation and possibly an even bigger opportunity but TV is a tough business (even tougher for minorities) and I would never recommend that anyone leave a fat network paycheck from a successful show on the table.
