The CW's The Flash is not waiting long to bring in a new love interest for The Fastest Man Alive.
The Vampire Diaries and Star-Crossed alum Malese Jow has been tapped to recur and play pivotal DC Comics character Linda Park, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The character is described as a quick-witted reporter for the Central City Picture News. She befriends Iris (Candice Patton) while at work and helps her navigate the fast-paced world of journalism. When she meets Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) at a local bar, the two hit it off and become quick friends. The character will first appear in episode 112.

I loved Malese as Anna on VD and i am one who said killing her off was big mistake.Glad she is getting a high profile gig.And yeah Flash with it's ratings Is high profile gig.
If they follow the comics then Iris won't know his secret until after they get married. Then she finds out because Barry talks in his sleep. Yeah, lame but then that was the Silver Age of comics and things were much corny back then back then so they may not follow that bit.

I liked Malese Jow on TVD and I'm here for Barry getting a love interest (NO to Barry/Caitlin, I'd rather they explore Ronnie/Caitlin and leave Barry and Caitlin as friends) but Linda Park is Wally's love interest. So are we never getting Wally or will Wally date his Uncle's former flame? This is a bit confusing.

ReplyDeleteI thought the writers were the ones who mentioned Wally existing in this universe, but maybe they were only talking in theory or maybe they changed their minds. Or maybe there are a million Linda Park journalists running around Central City, would explain the older Linda Park reporting about the accelerator.
ReplyDeleteBut they had Olivia Cheng in the role. An actual face to go with the name. Meaning she was cast as Linda Park, which by definition would mean this is a recast.
ReplyDeleteBut does Iris know in the new 52 version? One thing I dislike the most in the comic book lore is the clueless heroine. It's done so many times. If you consider Arrow it would have been much more beneficial for the show if they had clued in Laurel on to Oliver's secret earlier. I just want Iris to know Barry's secret some time this season. Candice Patton in an interview talked about the betrayal Iris feels because her dad and her best friend keeps this secret. I thought that meant Iris will know the secret soon.

ReplyDeleteI guess we'll just have to wait and see. I definitely see them giving Barry a love interest, while Iris is still dating Eddie and is clueless about how Barry feels about her. Barry/Felicity will be explored and finish in episode 4 and I really don't see them going for Barry/Caitlin, so he needs a love interest as well.
ReplyDeleteI like Barry/Iris but they aren't even in the top five of the things I like about the show and I could live without them. But I don't want Caitlin to fall for Barry or anything like that. It's going to ruin her potential character arc and I don't want Barry to be the main reason for her change. Also if they become the most popular ship I'm never going to get the storyline I want for her.

Using one's name as just an easter egg would go to Danny Brickwell or Isabel Rochev in Oliver's "list"…another example could be Laurel referencing, by name only, a 'Ray' and a 'Jean' from college, but this is a total recast, or just a plain retcon, especially since this Linda Park will have a totally different workplace it seems.

ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I don't think i will be able to go far with this show if we get another laurel. And i dont say this because i dislike laurel, i say it because its painful to watch such a poorly written character that keeps getting the end of the stick every time. And since i consider her being kept out for so long as the beginning of where we are today i do not want to see this happen to iris specially when Grant and Candice have the chemistry and dynamic to become something very special down the road. But most importantly i want a good character that i can enjoy seeing independent of the male lead.

But i have to say this in their favor, there has not been anything in the last three episodes that would merit a thought in anyone of a romantic involvement between them. So i guess this must be ship fever in the teens who can't see a male and a female in the same space without marrying them.
ReplyDeleteWhat the...?? Linda Park was the love intrest of Wally West's Flash. Not Barry Allen. For my sanity's sake I'm just going to hope that the original article writer just doesn't have a clue on the whole "multiple Flashes" thing as the article says they'll be FRIENDS.

ReplyDeleteAnd the most ridiculous thing is that shipping two people before a series even starts apparently is more common then we imagine. And the worse is that they pair the most obvious ones and then bash when it turns out to be someone else. Like the other day i read a comment by someone who went balistic because iris was being played by a black women. I rather think that is a very small minority of viewers who have that prejudice.

What I really want to say though is between Iris, Caitlin, and now Linda, The Flash producers seem determined to throw women at Barry from all angles. Even The Flash can't outrun that much tail.

ReplyDeleteMaybe, people saw two characters working well together who are pretty together and guessed at how the writers were going to fill out the roles? When they saw the first few episodes and Iris and Barry had nothing going on, they started looking to the other girl in the cast, and he was nice to her and she was concerned for him, and lots of TV romances have started with less.
I agree that Barry/Iris are not proving to be very compelling. But I'm not worried about Caitlin/Barry happening. It seems like they've already got Caitlin earmarked for a story with her fiance and casting Robbie Amell for it is a clear indication they are going somewhere with that story. I think the way Gustin is playing Barry, he's going to have this nice guy/compassion with lots of characters, so Caitlin will be one of many.

Yeah that us very odd. Wait in regards to Iris was it sorely because she's black or because she's white in the comics. Either way it's racist (though I feel the second is less so), but I'm just interested.

ReplyDeletePersonally I think we are going to see Caitlin transform to Killer Frost sooner than we all think it will happen. I don't see this situation as another Felicity at all. Firstly because The Flash seems to be more thought out series than what Arrow was in season 1 and season 2. Second even though Iris is not a compelling character yet she is nowhere near the disaster of Laurel in Arrow season 1. Iris is till likeable so once she is in the know and Iris/Barry romance starts I don't think there will be too much of a backlash.
