  1. I voted ok. I was really disappointed. I thought it would be scarier. I don't like clowns and while the clown was terrifying to look at I didn't find it scary at all.

  2. this episode is beyond awesome! this one episode > 2nd half of coven SO GOOD, every actor is utilised properly, storyline's character focused, music is haunting, twisty is a mindf*ck; gorgeous cinematography. GREAT WORK AHS, You have restored my faith in you!

  3. Not as good as Asylum IMO, but it was still pretty good. The clown was beyond terrifying. Next episodes look even better than the premiere, I'm interested in Emma Roberts' character.

  4. I thought it was really really really awesome!!

That clown though!! Holy crap!! That clown is terrifying... He's terrifying just to even look at! And everything he's done (especially tormenting the kids) was pretty scary. He's acted very expertly as well!

Loved the storyline with the Freak Show and the twist at the end with Elsa was extremely well done and shocking.

Also like that the Freak Show will be contributing to the killing and not just twisty!

    9.25/10 for me!

  5. That was just plain fun! The villain this season looks great and this season looks like it will be better than the underwhelming 3rd season.

  6. Awesome premiere! Yes it was a little slow but they were just introducing all the characters and I think they did a great job. I really enjoyed it.

They should just hand over the Emmy to Sarah Paulson right now. There is absolutely no contest, she has earned it in the matter of one episode. A stellar performance.

John Carroll Lynch successfully creeped me the hell out. His portrayal of Twisty the Clown is unlike anything I have ever seen and it's going to haunt my dreams for the next week. Thanks, Ryan Murphy!

Elsa revealing that she has two prosthetic legs was nice reveal and a complete surprise. I wonder what happened to her that made her get the prosthetic legs.

Jessica Lange stole the damn show with her cover of "Life on Mars"! It was brilliant and I'm definitely going to be buying it on iTunes. What a beautiful voice and a class act.

Looking forward to seeing more characters! Especially Emma Roberts! Her role as a fortune teller should be interesting and fun.

  7. It looks great like all of the AHS series. Asylum was the best for both looks and content.. Freak Show sounded like it was going to be really good but it is just okay at best, not all that scary or engaging. I'll give it another episode or two to improve before I check out of this circus for good.

  8. well, that was.... weird and creepy but in a good way! set up ep that definitely dragged in parts and took a while to get going for me, but solid performances by all but notably Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson in her double/solo role.. I'm sure the fear of clowns folk had a hard time with this one and it will be interesting to see how that will play into everything. I gave it a good for now and will see how things begin to develop as we go along

  9. I didn't think this ep really lived up to all the hype. The clown is definitely scary. But I thought it was a slow ep. I agree that Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson were amazing. I just hope the show picks up the pace next week.

  10. If the season premiere is any indication of what this season will be like ... AHS is in deep trouble. It was horribly disappointing. The clown was not terrifying. Lange's German accent was unrealistic and the two headed lady wasn't convincing enough. Whoever did the CGI effect on the show should get fired.

  11. Yes, Jessica Lange will be remembered as a truly great actress! I can only find one comparison to her performance of "Life on Mars" in a German accent and that is Zoie Palmer's "burlesque" performance in "fluent French" (Lost Girl S4E7). Am I the first to compare Sarah Paulson's "twin" performance to Tatiana Maslany's clone performance (Orphan Black)? I new Sarah Paulson was something special the first time I saw her in "American Gothic" (great series.........cancelled before it's time) way back when. I enjoyed this premiere............American Horror Story always has great/memorable "opening sequence", but this one is downright "creepy and disturbing" (No Spoilers, much)! 4 A FREAK SHOW IN A TOWN NEAR YOU, I am Nobody!!!

  12. I have a little mixed feelings about this premiere.

On one hand, I was facinated by the unique style of this season. You can tell it's different from the past seasons, and I really enjoy that. Unfortunately, I feel like they focussed a little too much on making the premiere an artistical masterpiece.

Storywise, there were no deeply hooking parts in this episode for me: Lange's character seems to be the same selfish bitch like her character in S3 and the clown isn't scary enough yet.

I hope I'll be satisfied next week, I guess we just had too big expectations through the online-hype that was going on about this season.

Ps. I find that Lange's accent is a lot more French than German (saying this as a German native)

    6.5/10

    Great but not awesome.

  14. This is the first time American Horror Story scared me. Twisty the Clown gave me nightmares last night.

Other than that, I really loved the premiere! Looking forward to the rest of the season.

  15. Wait was Ryan Murhpy high when he said it was going to be the scariest season? o_o
all the episode I was waiting for this clown to scare the hell out of me and I thought he was funny so idk maybe I'm just used to AHS now and when you've seen Asylum, you won't see anything scarier.
But I did love those freaks, especially Bette and Dot and the promo for the upcoming episode looks great! Looking forward to the Ed. Mortdrake Halloween episodes.

  16. The clown is awesome. I do not like clowns at all but I like this clown a lot.

  17. As a native german speaker I found the german accent good enough. Not perfect but better than most of what I've seen from other people. Plus the lines she spoke in german were nearly perfect. And I've never seen an actor with no german background speaking the language in the way Jessica Lange did.

  18. Also german native here. I agree that she switched between french and german accent. But it was pretty good nontheless. And I think her german was great

  19. I absolutely loved it. The fact that it's not that scary as Asylum is actually a plus point for me because I don't really like the scary stuff ;)

I was surprised that we saw that one character form Asylum again. I forgot what her name was though.

There some rather holarious scenes. Especially when the siamese twins talked about touching themselves and when Jimmy used his "talents" on other women.

Jessica Lange is absolutely brilliant. She's doing pretty well with the accent. And I never thought that I would see Marlene Dietrich channeling David Bowie on screen. Life on Mars was awesome!!!

  20. I have to disagree with all of these, the CGI was done well on a TV budget, Lange sounded fine and the clown was creepy. I doubt AHS is in trouble..

  21. It was as underwhelming as the last season. And I'm sorry, Jessica Lange is great, but this is basically the fourth time she is playing the same character. The writing on this show is just lazy.

  22. I have no clown-phobia whatsoever and it's really hard to scare me in general (hate horror movies, I always laugh at them)...but Twisty somehow had an impact on me. Not the scared-me-to-death impact, but a good creepy, eerie one, where I really felt uneasy, especially in his first scene, so I guess there's that....You're just used to the level of madness of Asylum!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well if you were scared if the first ep... Having seen the second one, I can tell you that the second one is way, way scarier and freakier than the first one... Now I'm afraid of the clown and what's under his mask.. creepy.
