As much as I want to see this family back together. I don't feel "bad" for Joel. He walked out and wouldn't even talk about it when things were hard, he could have stayed and worked on it.

  3. I'm mostly on Joel's side with this. If you go back and re-watch the previous seasons it shows the process of how they got to this point.
-He gave up his dream job to raise their daughter
-then he got to go back to work after Julia quick her job without talking to him
-then she got jealous that she was the housewife and he was working
-she began having relations with another man even after witnessing her brother (crosby) nearly destroy his marriage with adultery
-she disrespected Joel by trampling all over his job and embarrassing him and expected him to fix their family issues (Sydney's horrible attitude).

Joel "walked away" but not the way it seems to be interpreted by the fans of the show (people tend to side with Julia because this show is about her and her family, it's easier to lean towards their point of view than their significant others), he never said he was giving up on the marriage he said he needed time. She wasn't willing to give him time, she wanted results instantly. Some people need to step back from a situation to process it and figure out how to move forward. That's what makes him and Julia different.

Now, granted he should have put forth a little more effort in regards to communication but to be fair, would you want to instantly patch things up with the person you love who you feel has embarrassed, shamed, blamed you, cheated on you, and pressured you to fix everything on their time table? Probably not.

So, I am not saying it's all Julia's fault, that would be a lie, but the wight of it comes from her, not him.

  4. Joel was a jerk last season. I personally didn't buy the writing for Joel. Joel and Julia have always been opposites in personality. Last season, it's like they almost become one another. I think it went on for too long and went too far. I'm glad to see him come around in the final season. I hope to see Julia come around, too.
