Mulaney - Season 1 - Episode Order Trimmed to 13 Episodes

19 Oct 2014

Fox has trimmed the order for new comedy series Mulaney by three episodes, from 16 to 13. The network made the call after two airings, as the series just wrapped filming Episode 13 and was about to go into production on Episode 14.

The multi-camera Mulaney had an unusual 16-episode order as Fox originally picked up 6 episodes last October and then ordered additional 10 in May when the net opted not not to pick up any of its comedy pilots to series. While no 2014 Fox comedy pilots went to series, the network has four straight-to-series half-hour shows for this season, Mulaney as well as live-action Last Man on Earth and Weird Loners and animated Bordertown.

  1. Looks like we have our first cancelled show, though not official.

And there's the rumor I heard yesterday. (Although the rumor suggested it had been quietly cancelled which it probably has anyway. )

  3. Okay, now that we have our first (unofficial) cancellation, can the other networks start following suit with their low-rated shows?

  4. It's kind of surprising since the second episode grew from the premiere with a repeat as a lead-in, but it was wasting Family Guy's lead-in.

  5. I'm surprised it hasn't been pulled.

  6. This one is a truly terrible show...

  7. Mulaney makes Dad's look good.

  8. Well even if FOX does remove it from its Sunday slot a few weeks, they'll in all likelihood air all 13 episodes. It's been several years that FOX just canceled and pulled a show entirely, I'm sure this and Red Band Society are canceled, FOX is most likely just going to air the episode orders, and decline to pick up additional episodes.

Which is 100x better than when I first started watching them around 2000, 2001... Every season I'd start watching a sci-fi/fantasy show or comedy, and it would air 4-6 episodes, and then be gone forever.

  9. Technically, still not the first cancellation.

  10. It still underperformed and FOX decided to reduce the episode order. The still 5 three new comedies left to premiere, so if it falls any further, they can easily replace it.

  11. Enlisted was pulled just last year. The fact that they later burned off the remaining episodes during the summer doesn't change that. The year before, they pulled Ben and Kate. They aren't as quick in pulling as they used to be, but the notion that's been proliferating that FOX doesn't pull shows anymore for several years is not true.

  12. I think Red Band will be the official first cancellation.

  13. Not happening. If FOX wanted to pull it, they would have this week. It is on three week break now because of MLB.

  14. I'll give you Ben & Kate, I forgot about that one, because it sucked so much. But Enlisted was on hiatus for only two months, several in-season shows go on hiatus that long or longer when they're not canceled, so my point still stands in that case.

The fact remains is that people still seem to think FOX is incredibly impatient and trigger happy when they have in reality become one of the more patient of the broadcast networks.

  15. That's true. I forgot about the 3 week break. We'll see if ABC pulls the Tuesday comedies.

  16. Smells like a cancelation prelude to me.

  17. Article is way too kind, production has been stopped: the show is cancelled.

  18. Anyone who needs more, I can highly recommend this. I started doing this
for 2 yrs and it helped me when I was in depression. I've 2500 in 1
week. Now I have fullfilled my many expectations. I am doing this
regularly and I can say it's a great source. You can check it out here

  19. Repeats if the series ends early.

  20. This is a cancellation imo because they shut down production without letting them shoot a proper series finale. The difference between this show and RBS for example is that RBS already has an order for only 13 episodes while Mulaney had an order for 16 but both are pretty much cancelled already.

  25. There is only 1 potential Sunday game (next Sunday) - World Series runs Tu, W, F, Sa then (if necessary) Sun, Tu, W. Not sure how there is more than a one-week break. BTW - AD! sure is looking good. Will be interesting to see how it does on TBS
