The Flash - Barry, Iris and Felicity love triangle will be addressed

8 Sept 2014

Just because Barry Allen is getting his own show doesn't mean that Barry/Felicity shippers from "Arrow" should lose hope.

During the PALEYFEST Fall TV Preview panel discussion co-executive producer of "The Flash" Greg Berlanti promises that Barry's complicated romantic situation will be addressed. "Felicity is going to appear in Episode 4 of 'Flash.' It was really important to us to address that right away because we saw the impact that Grant had [in Season 1 of 'Arrow']."

Felicity's appearance will of course cause ripples as Barry grapples with feelings for his best friend and confidant Iris West. Not to mention back in "Arrow"-verse Felicity will be getting closer to Oliver -- so it's more of a cross-over love square. However, don't expect any cat fights between Felicity and Iris.

"Iris and Felicity get along. At the end of the day [Iris] wants whatever makes Barry happy," actress Candice Patton says at the panel. "So Iris looks at Felicty like 'Dude, how could you not?' Iris genuinely wants the best for Barry so she's trying to set him up. She doesn't even realize that he could want [Iris]."

But how could he not fall for Iris? "That's what makes it so heartbreaking because you see the dailies and the way Grant [Gustin] is looking at Candace -- and you know its her [Barry] wants," chimes in show runner Andrew Kreisberg. "When you meet Iris you can kind of see how Barry could not be totally into Felicity."

  2. it seems like the cw can't get past their whole fixation on love triangles, as this one barely even registers here.

    ReplyDelete
  3. because that's obviously the most important issue to be adressed on The Flash/Arrow

    ReplyDelete
  4. thawne has to be the big bad right

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think Barry and Felicity will end up their date with as very strong friendship... After all, we know that Felicity goes to Central City 'cause of a fight with Oliver(We know he will try to push her away) so she can't be with him for the moment and we know Barry can't be with Iris 'cause she is with Det. Pretty Boy.

One could think they could understand each other...

    ReplyDelete
  6. what makes you say that mac, he's zoom

    ReplyDelete
  7. the cw and their romantic triangles..... meh

    ReplyDelete
  8. Throw in Caitlin or I won't care. Is Iris only about romance or will there be more to her character?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Love triangle? REALLY?? As much as I love Barry and Felicity and enjoyed their scenes together but it's not a love triangle it was barely even a love line lol they flirted a little and danced once that doesn't make this a THING, he even told her that he likes someone else and he could see that she has feelings for Oliver so let's not make this a big deal and just make them good friends, okay writers?

    ReplyDelete
  10. What is with these absurd love triangle/square/pentagon/hexagon and CW.......this is getting really irritating now!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Prediction:
Sorry in advance Olicity fans. In a shocking twist Felicity will move to Starling City after Oliver fires her and sends ( for her own safe ) her packing Felicity may return to Arrow after a time ... or ... she'll stay on as a fulltime cast member.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I really wish they'd do with Barry/Felicity what they did with Lindsay/Severide on Chicago PD, it would be a great way of stoping the ship from taking over the show. Besides, I really liked their geeky interactions ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I could get onboard that ship if the situation arised.

    ReplyDelete
  14. seems like someone in their marketing department needs to be fired

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, knowking that she actually born on the 30th Century is a good star, i think jeje ALso,she is suposed to die, but i don't think they go with any of that... She will have a new origin for the show, i guess.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i see more potential and chemistry with barry and caitlin than iris honestly

    ReplyDelete
  17. The whole marketing department you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yep me to! Could see them grow into the Olicity version of Flash. They established an interestin connection n the ilot. I look forward to see how it'll develop.

    ReplyDelete
  19. LOL that's funny... good joke ;D

    ReplyDelete
  20. You are aware she becomes Killer Frost, don't you? xD

    ReplyDelete
  21. No joke. Arrow may need to make a big move to get Oliver and Laurel together or to make sure The Flash gets A+ ratings it's first season.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So what? They can't fall in love? She will become, future tense. She is far far away from it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think everyone is giving to much into this statement!!!!!!!
She will stop by they will have some beautiful moments and depart as she is slated to have and Orgin episode back on Arrow. Things have changed since they've met and they could tease a beautiful escape but that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. People love Felicity to much. The writers would never move her to the Flash...She might crossover at the beginning, which we know she will but same as oliver in the pilot. And that is to attract viewers but she is part of the arrow team ! the TRIO (Diggle Oliver and her) The flash is gonna stand on its own with its own characters. The Flash will get "A+ ratings" if it's well written and well made they don't absolutely need Felicity for that.
And even if in the comics Oliver and Laurel are canon, I think they made it clear that the show is its own entity. Not everything is the same as in the comics. And in TV shows, chemistry between actors is way more important than forcing something that the viewers don't like.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We actually don't know... I don't run the show... I mean, they got rid of Tommy on Arrow, so she might become Frost this year and out by the Finale.

The thing here is that she is a villain... I don't care about the comic pairings(I root for Olicity on Arrow 'cause that makes the most sense on the show) but i would like if they retain the core of the main characters they name exactly as their comic counter-part(u know, Cisco being Vibe and that...).

I don't see Barry ending with a super villain xD

    ReplyDelete
  26. not necessarily a full on villain any more in the new 52 comics maybe anti - hero.
Batman most recurring love is Catwoman enough said. The writers can do what they want at the end of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't see them being endgame as I neither see Olicity to be end game.
Everyone can go on a little killing spree every once in a while.
And why couldn't Barry love someone who is about to become a villain but isn't one yet. Currently she is just a broken girl and Barry a broken boy and I see space for them to be a thing right now. Will their break up or something else push her to the dark side is not a discussion right now maybe in a season or 2.

    ReplyDelete
  28. What did they do on Chicago PD?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cool. Can't wait for this show. I know it is going to be awesome! I don't think there is anything to worry about btw Felicity & Barry.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bruce Wayne IS NOT Barry Allen... But like you said, they can do whatever they want.

    ReplyDelete
  31. yes i know nicolas festa that's why it hurts knowing her potential destiny but i can't help but ship them hopefully they'll go the once upon a time route with caitlin

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, Gustin and the girl who play Iris have good chemistry as well so i guess it will be more insteresting. I also liked Caitlin more than Iris. It would be interesting if they got together and then he had to fight her.

Now, Olicity is another thing, actually. Amell and Cassidy have the chemistry of a duck and a stick of wood... Most of the viewership invested WAY TOO MUCH on Olicity because Amell and Cassidy don't work together as a romantic couple.

Olicity is like LoVe(Logan and Veronica, from Veronica Mars). They are a response of the chemistry between the actors and the audience, and that's ok.

Mark my words, the day they break Olicity just to give Oliver and Laurel a chance is the day the show will sign it's sentence. The solution here is to find Cassidy an actor wich she can work with(Like Ackles and Padalecki on SPN) and PLEASE, DO A SCREEN TEST BEFORE CASTING SOMEONE.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Exactly. When you're developing a tv show, writing a book, etc. you must evolve with it. Especially a show in wich the chemistry between actors is palpable.

The audience invested on Olicity, so the producers will care two shits about the "canon"(Something Arrow has deviated A LOT... I mean, Oliver on Arrow is not Oliver on the comics...), as they only care about what makes the audience stick to it every week.

I read the comics and i'm not pissed about that... It makes sense actually. Amell and Cassidy have the chemistry of a duck and a stick of wood.

Arrow's producers don't care about the canon. In fact they're putting things from the show ON THE COMICS, wich is something that really pissed me off, BIG TIME!

    ReplyDelete
  34. If we take Arrow as an example, they could go everywhere... I mean Arrow is nothing like the Green Arrow comics. The two Olivers are way too diferent, the characters are diferent, etc...

Maybe they make Killer Frost a hero... Who knows? They will change on the go to make what's best for the show, like Arrow: Amell(Oliver) and Cassidy(Laurel) have no chemistry so they made Rickard's character, Felicity, the main love interest. Arrow's producers don't care about the comic's canon.

What's worst is they're putting things from the show to the comics wich is a piece of crap... I loved the way the comics were going and was mad when they put Diggle on them, and now they're gonna put Felicity on it and make it more like the show... I'm still mad about that...

So don't give up hope! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. i though captain col was an offshoot which i always thought it was weird since he's so big in the comics so it's cool that he'll return, i still think thawne's the big bad of the series

    ReplyDelete
  36. How can a love triangule work if they are milles away... trust the CW to make something like this work in a extrange way

    ReplyDelete
  37. They know people love the character of Felicity so in order to talk about their new show The flash and do some "more" buzz around it, they make a big deal out of probably nothing... But it makes people talk so it's a good strategy ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep, i would totally dig that if done correctly. There's quite a lot of potencial in there.

Oh, I'm a Laurel fan too! Don't know why she gets that much hate... I'm pretty excited about her storyline from Season 3, the training with Wildcat and becoming Black Canary.

I don't think any relationship is "cliche" if done right... All the great couples on TV are about two things: Chemistry and Writing.

People could tell you the Hero/Nerd relationship is as cliche as the Hero/Villain or the Childhood Friends relationships. What matters is the writers making them interesting but i won't denied that the whole Barry/Caitlin has a lot more potencial.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Pretty much what this is... A plot device to make Arrow's audience to tune into the Flash. I'm super sure they will end up the episode being BFFs and part ways like nothing happen, just to make them notice that they're in love with Oliver/Iris.

Felicity's love interests this year are Oliver and Ray and Oliver's is Felicity... Nothing more...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, Chicago PD/Chicago Fire. How both characters are in their own show and have the ocational interaction, so they both do their own thing and have their own solid storylines and there's still a bit of romance here and there. I like how they handled it and I would love to see something like that done on Arrow/The Flash. Of course, it will never happen, Olicity is too big of a fanbase to piss off like that, but it would be nice none the less.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I definitely think they're talking it up too much as a love triangle. They must think love triangles sound appealing to fans. Unless they are done right and don't make the characters in the predicament come across as total asses, I hate them. I do believe that Felicity going to Central City is more about closure. I think it'd be strange to not have Felicity go see him after he wakes up, considering she visited him after the accident. So again, I think they're talking this up way too much.

    ReplyDelete
  42. When I see the pilot I like the relationship between Barry and Iris, both look good together, but also him with Felicity, I expect they not focus in the romance and more in the action and the plots.

P.S: Barry and Caitlin, stupid idea, they're a just friends nothing more, and wait, people start make shippers before the episodes arrives, this is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Olicity gets a ton of buzz and a lot of viewers watching the show. Doesn't make sense to lose that to follow a comic version that doesn't exist any more.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I hope Ronnie Raymond is in that episode too. How can they not pass up a meeting between Smoak and Raymond? The classic 80's Firestorm was the best. Excited for Martin Stein appearing later in the season too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Caitlin is engaged to Ronnie Raymond and also will probably become his enemy when she becomes Killer Frost.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They'll just make Olicity less interesting just like Smallville and other shows did by showing too much of it and becoming repetitive.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Chemistry is in the eye of the viewer and the producers have in fact said that Amell and Cassidy have chemistry. They also cut a scene in the first that demonstrated that they have chemistry. It's the CW that inadvertantly made many think they have no chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Calling Barry/Felicity/Iris situation a love triangle is just... funny!!! The way CW markets their shows. They always have to rely on romance and love triangles which might not even exist. No wonder Supernatural hardly gets any promotions.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Iris was portrayed to pushy in the Pilot and they wanted her to be that oblivious girl who has no clue Barry is into her, that makes Iris a bit unlikeable in comparison to Caitlin. I mean it's to early to say if either chemistry works, we'll have t wait and see.
I like Ollie and Laurel's chemistry, especially the from season one. It felt a bit to steril but currently they are to far away from being together that I don't see ot happen for at least a couple of seasons.
Yes this should be Laurel's year and her moment to shine. I just watched Katie again in Gossip Girl and simple loved her walk through the show. With BC mentor Wildccat appearing I'm hoping for some steamy scenes there. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. He's Edward Thawne (don't get why they changed Eobard) he will be Zoom. No way they're passing it up (espiecially considering how Barry's mom died- which is an almost exact take from the flashpoint storyline).

    ReplyDelete
  51. Assuming you watched the leaked pilot, you have seen ONE episode between them so far. That's what you're basing this on. (Or if you haven't, you're basing it on Caitlin telling Barry to urinate in a cup in one of the promos.)

It amazes me how obsessed with shipping viewers are.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Catwoman isn't a villain though, not anymore, she's an anti-hero.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We need a chart to keep track at this point. Just think about it.

    Barry/Iris/Thawne

    Barry/Iris/Felicity

    Barry/Felicity/Oliver

    Felicity/Oliver/Ray

Felicity/Oliver/Laurel (because you know Lauriver is coming back at some point to torture us some more with their complete lack of chemistry, spark, joy, and overall appeal)

And if we move further into Arrow...

I'm just going to assume Oliver/Sara is done at this point because otherwise, we're looking at another round of Oliver/Laurel/Sara, Oliver/Felicity/Sara, and possibly even Oliver/Sara/Nyssa.

    Oliver/Laurel/Wildcat?

Roy/Thea/Chase (new DJ love interest for Thea)

Roy/Thea/New Roy love interest (they've said he'll have one)

    ReplyDelete
  54. We all know Barricity isn't happening, even though I personally prefer it to Olicity and from the looks of it Barris. Let's move on.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just look at my comment above to Joy Haldar, trying to keep track of all the love triangles on Arrow and The Flash. Yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I loathe marketed romance, yet I love romance. IDK, I just prefer when things just blossom slowly, and at first you don't know if it's real or not, but suddenly it is. I sincerely hate when they push pairings to just hype.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I feel like this is mostly tying up loose ends that would have been tied up already, if The Flash got a backdoor Pilot like it was meant to. They've said they won't have Barry/Felicity in a cross shows romance, Felicity is getting a new love interest this season and also going on a date with Oliver in the pilot, so obviously that date doesn't go well, he does his usual "I'm too dangerous, it's for your own good" breakup speech, now that Barry is out of a coma, the two give it a try, despite being in love with other people, it's an awkward freaking double date and doesn't work out, leading to Ray/Felicity and Barry continuing his pining, unless he also has a love interest on The Flash.

    Boy do I hate shipping.

I'm interested in The Flash, all the casting so far sounds really awesome, I love Barry and while I haven't seen the leaked Pilot yet, the reaction to it is positive, which makes me even more hopeful for the show. The shipping part is the one I'm least interested in.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wow. Just wow!!! Its like being in love with one person and remaining that way is so out of fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Glorietta_Olicity8 September 2014 at 11:25

Lo unico que digo: FELICITY AND OLIVER BARRY AND IRIS.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I wouldnt call it a triangle. Seems AK pointed out that Barry loves Iris at Paley. And it seems Iris will try to set Felicity and Barry up, because they are nerds.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It depends on what fails8 September 2014 at 14:12

I got a CW notification for this.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think of one of the EPs for Flash said that at the end of the day, when you see Barry, Felicity, and Iris together, you can really get a sense of how Barry loves Iris and not Felicity. So given this, maybe the triangle isn't so much of a triangle. More like a line and a dot (Felicity being the dot lol).

If Lauriver /does/ come back, I'm just going to skip those episodes and keep my eye out for when they end things because a relationship between Oliver and Laurel just ends up making BOTH Oliver and Laurel unlikable. And watching a series with an unlikable male lead and supposed female lead is just grating considering I watch more for the characters than I do for the action.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ...So Felicity will have to move/die/get away just so Oliver and Laurel can be together? That's the sign of a pretty crappy couple right there. It'll make Laurel look like the second choice and that's just terrible for all the characters involved tbqh.

    ReplyDelete
  64. have you seen the pilot?
I DO know who Dr. Zoom is but the pilot takes a whole different direction for reverse Flash.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ronnie is dead. Yes he'll appear but from what we've seen its only 1 epi. And who cares what she becomes. That's never stopped shippers before.

    ReplyDelete
  66. [I am secretly starting to like the Barry/Caitlin pairing...]

    ReplyDelete
  67. I've seen the pilot. Caitlin is the only female character that stands out and has a bit of depth, so its not surprising that those who have seen it ship her and Barry.

Iris is bland, and her role is predictable. Reminds me of early Laurel and early Lana Lang.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Even if Caitlin is more well-developed than Iris, she's had what, 2 or 3 scenes with Barry? Not exactly much to base a ship on. Not every male character and female character who are attractive, not related, and around the same age need to be shipped together, is what I'm saying.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am not talking about David Fischer here but some people in general has the tendency to not ship the couple a show says will be in the pilot especially if it is said one or the other character is already in love with the other. People who love romance in general likes to see how two people met and how they fell in love rather than telling them they already love each other now they just have to get together.
That being said having seen the pilot I loved Barry and Iris. They have a connection beyond Barry's puppy love. I loved the relationship between Barry, Iris and Joe. I hope they bring in Iris on Barry's secret soon or else Barry/Caitlin shippers will increase. People always like the woman who is a part of the action in a hero's life than outside of it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I understand not liking a pairing because the show TELLS you that you have to like them from day one. I've been there. What irks me is just that as soon as people decide they're not into Barry/Iris, they immediately have to locate the next female in Barry's general vicinity in order to ship him with her, instead. Is there a reason why they can't watch the actual show and see if any interesting dynamics develop between characters before shipping them? This obsession with shipping everyone and their mother with each other just drives me nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yeah they are over selling it because Felicity is very popular and they want to attract as much Arrow viewers as they could, and their "relationship" was left unresolved but it's very annoying to describe it as a love triangle.

    ReplyDelete
  72. You may want that but it doesnt mean thats what will happen or should happen. You may want comic canon whenever it suits you, well so do other people too.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Why are you making assumptions that all people who ship Barry/Caitlin do so because they dont like Barry/Iris or that they haven't seen an interesting dynamic between them.
