FX NETWORKS STAYS IN RELATIONSHIPS WITH MARRIED AND YOU’RE THE WORST

FX Orders 13-Episode Second Season of Married

and You’re the Worst Will Move to FXX for Its 13-Episode Second Season

The Full First Season of Both Shows Are Available on FXNOW to Authenticated Subscribers

LOS ANGELES, September 30, 2014 – FX Networks is staying in relationships with its new comedies, Married and You’re the Worst, with the second season of Married continuing on FX and You’re The Worst moving to its new home on FXX, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions.

FX Networks ordered 13 episodes of both Married and You’re the Worst for their second seasons. Both series recently completed their 10-episode first seasons on FX. The first seasons of both are currently available on FX’s VOD platform FXNOW for authenticated subscribers of the network. Married and You’re the Worst are produced by FX Productions.

“We love these shows and the creative visions of Andrew Gurland of Married and Stephen Falk of You’re the Worst,” said Grad. “Both series have terrific ensemble casts and outstanding lead performances – Nat Faxon and Judy Greer in Married, and Chris Geere and Aya Cash in You’re the Worst. These shows are honest, 360-degree looks at relationships and we’re excited to see how they evolve.”

On a weekly basis, Married is averaging 1.96 million in Total Viewers and 1.35 million in Adults 18-49, and You’re the Worst is averaging 1.65 million in Total Viewers and 1.09 million in Adults 18-49 (through the first seven episodes and will increase with the accumulation of more data). You’re the Worst showed particular strength among Adults 18-34, increasing delivery in that demo for episodes six, seven and eight (ratings data through episode eight). Both series rank in the Top 10 in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 for new comedy series in 2014 on basic cable.

Married is a half hour comedy about being miserably in love. Russ and Lina Bowman can barely remember what life was like before kids, debt, and suburbia rained on their romance – but every once in a while, in between the arguments about their declining sex life and who's driving carpool, they are reminded what drew them together in the first place – they're best friends. The show also features Russ and Lina's friend AJ, who is recently divorced and pretending he's over his wife, and their other friend Jess, who is married to a much older man who can't keep up with her. Married stars Nat Faxon as “Russ,” Judy Greer as “Lina,” Brett Gelman as “AJ” and Jenny Slate as “Jess.” Paul Reiser guest stars as “Shepard,” Jess’ husband. The series was created by Andrew Gurland (The Virginity Hit, Mail Order Wife), who wrote and directed the pilot and serves as Executive Producer/Showrunner, alongside Executive Producers Peter Principato and Paul Young.

An original comedy from writer and executive producer Stephen Falk, You're The Worst is a modern look at love and happiness told through the eyes of two people who haven't been very successful with either. It's the story of Gretchen and Jimmy, fear, heartbreak, romance, sex, food, Los Angeles, friendship, and the fact that sometimes the worst people make the best partners.

You’re The Worst puts a dark twist on the romantic comedy genre. Narcissistic, brash, and self-destructive “Jimmy Shive-Overly,” played by Chris Geere (The Spa), thinks all relationships are doomed. Cynical, people-pleasing, and stubborn “Gretchen Cutler,” played by Aya Cash (The Wolf of Wall Street), knows that relationships aren't for her. So when they meet at a wedding, it's only natural that the two of them go home together and, despite their better judgment, begin to find themselves falling for each other. Rounding out the cast is Desmin Borges (The Good Wife), who plays “Edgar Quintero,” Jimmy’s once homeless, war veteran roommate; and Kether Donohue (The Carrie Diaries) as “Lindsay Jillian,” Gretchen’s best friend and former partner in crime who’s now struggling with a life of domesticity.

  4. I'm happy for You're The Worst, just don't know if in a long-term that's good for the show. But, WTH, we got a second season YAY

Come on FX, renew The Bridge now.

  8. I would be shocked if The Bridge got a third season. The season two ratings have been abysmal. I don't think Partners has a shot at a pickup either.

  9. I really wasn't expecting either show to be renewed, but I'm very happy that they both were.

You're the Worst was a strong hit for me -- easily one of the best new shows of the year. Superb cast, great writing, fun direction. I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Married was good, but was kinda choppy in some parts. Lina was painfully underdeveloped, and I feel like she was always inadvertently villainized. The show needs to work harder on being objective, rather than being Russ' story of broken dreams. Definitely room for improvement, and I think we will see the show get better.

Really, I'm just surprised that only You're the Worst would be moved to FXX. Seems odd to break up a solid double-header.

  10. Don't say that about "The Bridge". This show is so damn GOOD. It deserved a third season. Partners can die.. I don't care about it !

  11. I like The Bridge as well. I watch every week. The only problem I've had with season two is that Sonya's Asperger Syndrome has all but disappeared.

The ratings really are terrible though. A third of season two's episodes didn't even crack 1 million viewers and the show has dropped nearly 50% in the demo since last season.

  12. Sonya's Asperger Syndrome has not dispapperead.. The first few episodes with Hobbs brother gives us a little nods of that.

Hmmm i know i'm realist. I'll be surprised if the show is renewed but.. Hope is a good thing.
