Intruders - Ave Verum Corpus - Review: "A ghost machine"

Episode 4 Review of Intruders "Ave Verum Corpus" (Updated with Promo for episode 5 below)

In this week's episode we discover many things that will help us understand the true meaning behind these "ghosts". The episode's biggest revelation came right at the end when Bill Anderson said he built a ghost machine. The ghost machine is most likely how people like Marcus have returned in someone else's body , it also means that they have died previously. We find out these people inside other people are Ghosts ,and there soul takes control of another body meaning they don't really die.

The episode kicks off with Marcus/Madison she is in the back of a car sleeping , she has a flashback to when she was a kid. Her parents just bought that beach house we saw in episode 1.There is a piano and her mum says "you can learn the piano Madison" she goes over to it and starts playing as if she has been playing it for years. This is probably Marcus playing as we know he was in an orchestra and my money is on him being a pianist. We see Madison later on after she gets out the car she was in , go into a restaurant , look at a newspaper article about a sports game with the score 5-3. Somehow this jogged her memory and she was Madison again. She is trying to fight off Marcus for control of her body. She rings her mum and says "the man makes me not remember". So she does actually know someone else's soul is inside her , interesting.
We then see Amy , she is alone listening to an old news report about a guy named Leon who was found dead in the 1900's. She touches the TV screen when his picture is on it , as if it was a relation of hers (well not Amy , but whoever's inside her). Maybe it was her husband , as these people were most likely around for years and had to of had some normal lifestyle. She says "not forever , soon" could she be planning on bringing him back? We know Bill Anderson has a Ghost Machine which sees ghosts , so she could use that. With that in mind , she would need a "host" for Leon to go into. We hear a strange line from a book Madison is reading in a library. "There are places on earth where it is easier to cross from the living to the dead and back again" So these ghosts can effectively cross over when they die , and chose to go back if they wish to. I wonder what these crossings are , and how they cross over. We know the ghost machine wouldn't help them crossover , it only sees the ghosts.

Most of the episode was focused on Jack again , which is ok , since his story is easily the best one. Gary is talking to him about a guy named "Joseph Crainfield" and his fortune. You see , Gary is Crainfields lawyer. Gary was ordered to split the fortune up by Crainfield) he sold all his properties as well , except from one , which Amy was seen coming out off. The building was empty when Jack and Gary went inside. The building is now owned by the crane family (Todd crane Amy's boss) he is on the board of trustees for the charity in which some of Cranfields money went to and which own the building. The building has three trustees, Todd Crane , Marcus Fox and Joseph Crainfield.
The building is abandoned. I reckon the building is where all these "people" meet up. Amy got given the Joesph trustee's position of the property , which means she must be important to them to be trusted with this. As Joseph was going to die soon , I think instead of dying he was really getting someone put inside him. We see later on Amy , Shepherd and countless others do some ritual. Crainfield is wrapped up like how a mummy would be. They seem to sprinkling something on him. Perhaps this is how they do it (ghost into someones body) or , maybe as we know Joseph's time is up , maybe that is how they kill them after the 9 years have past which makes the ghost move on. If they just say shot him the ghost might not be able to move on perhaps?
Speaking of Crainfield, Marcus want's him , we don't know why yet , but I reckon it might have something to do with the building and maybe Josephs money. We also now know that Todd Crane is involved with them all , which I guessed at early.

Todd gets a visit from Marcus and tries to play the "I don't know what your'e talking about" card. Marcus isn't buying it. This is where we get informed that Joseph is sick and dying. When Marcus leaves he , says "What comes around goes around" this line is starting to lose its effect , it is just getting really irritating , and if they don't tell us what it means soon I am literally going to mute the part when he says it. Todd rings a woman called Rose saying "we have a problem we never thought we would have again" Maybe they wanted Marcus out the picture and all plotted to get rid of him at one point , which is why they all seemed shocked he is back.
Who is Rose by the way? We hear she has been activated , which means that the person inside the host has taken over. My only theory is that Amy is Rose , and when she answered her phone and got a weird noise through it , it was them activating Rose. This would make the most sense, since we already know someone else's soul is inside Amy , but just not who's. Jack later on in the episode goes into "this house" maybe Bill Anderson's? after receiving a phone call from an unknown source saying "The only reason to go into that house is to see what it is like for it to happen to you" I presume the person on the phone is talking about getting a soul put inside Jack. I bet by the end of the season Jack will be a "host" (not willingly) and someone will be put inside him. Jack and Gary near the end of the episode send a message to Bill Anderson , who is very much alive. They meet him in a bar , which he explains how he created a machine that sends out frequencies that nobody can hear , but you can feel it. This could be the sound that Amy heard on the phone , as the sound had to come off from somewhere.Could Bill's ghost machine be helping to activate these ghosts without his knowledge? As soon as you think we might get some more answers Shepherd comes in and shoots Bill. I know I said I wanted Jack and Shepherd to interact at one point , but I hoped it would be on different circumstances.

Summary
The episode was great , not as good as the previous one though. We found out what these people really are , but still don't know what they are truly doing we can only speculate. We know now how the ghosts cross over , and what possibly activates them , but still don't have answers to things we have been wanting to know since episode 1 like the number 9 , we haven't gotten any solid confirmation of what it is or that line Madison always says. With four episodes left , let's hope we can get some real answers.

As always thank you for reading!

What did you think of the episode? Who do you think Rose is? How do you think these Ghosts crossover? Who do you think was on the phone to Jack? What do you think they were doing to Crainfield? Let me know in the comments!

  3. Great Review!

I like the title, it matches the show very well..."Hail, true body"...

  4. Thanks! I didn't actually know what the title meant (forgot to search it on google) So it is good to know what it means. It is very fitting especially as it is related to hyms and music , which we know that Marcus was from an orchestra and possibly a composer.

  5. I think Shepherd was supposed to kill Marcus but couldn't bring himself to shoot the little girl whose body he was inhabiting. . He's obviously a serial killer of little girls so maybe when he was given a new host they thought using a female might contain him. He obviously wants to get control again and seek revenge. Doing that as a child might be difficult. (I'm personally hoping Shepherd does find him/her and finish the job.)

The title means "Hail, True body."

I enjoyed the episode. It seems to be moving much faster now and we did get some answers.

  6. Yeah it is moving much faster which is a good thing as I hate the slow pace in shows. I don't think Marcus is a serial killer of sorts , but he must of done something bad to them/ to people for them to not want him back and like you said for them to contain him. He does want control again which your right , but I too agree he wont get any especially since he is a child and no one will really take him seriously. Unless he finds a way to switch bodies , he wont be the man in charge.

  7. yeah remember when he and the little girl were down by the water and he was about to shoot her and she started crying and crap saying that she's a little girl and all that.. and he couldn't do it... bad mistake.... because I was all like damn when she/he beat the crap out of the lady in the rest stop bathroom.. that gave her/him a ride...

  8. Marcus did make a comment in another episode about being in the orchestra when the little girls were going missing and were killed. It also showed flashbacks to bodies and bones. In this episode he/she made mention of liking young girls who were just entering puberty but hadn't really developed breasts yet. It definitely gave me the impression that he was a pedophile. Not someone they should keep bringing back for sure.

  9. I had the impression they don't put souls in other people after they are all grown up. I mean, since the beginning I thought the soul would inhabit a new born and then, someday, it would be triggered and they would both cohabit. But Marcus was brought back too soon...he should been awaken only when Madison was a grown woman and not a 9 year old kid.
So, with that in mind, they wouldn't put a soul inside Jack's body, but maybe Amy would try to prepare Jack to be a traveler (the members have a name, right? I can't remember). That's what I though, I might be wrong.

  10. Yeah I can't remember what they are called maybe shepherds? That is a good point about them inhabiting new borns which does makes sense then. So if Amy is one of these "travellers" then one of them must of inhabited her body at birth. In all honesty I am just guessing at everything as I am always so confused with this show to what / how everything is happening.

  11. ah yes , I completely forgot about what he said about the "breasts and little girls". You know maybe you are right , with this show anything is possible so you never know. If he is what you say he is then I agree why would they bring him back , although I don't think any of them wanted to bring him back since Todd looked so shocked he came into his office. So I wonder who brought him back , it cant be shepherd as that would be too obvious.

  12. They may have realized what he was too late and that's why Shepherd was sent to kill the little girl. I think Todd was shocked because he had assumed that Shepherd had killed him/her.

  13. Could be , although in the promo Shepherd gets asked "did you bring him back" . Obviously referring to Marcus , so I still wonder if Shepherd brought Marcus back , which is why he opted not to shoot the girl. If Shepherd didn't bring him back them I wonder who did.
