  1. uh yeah that sounds like a bad move but I guess we'll have to see.

  3. Never seen this guy. Some one tell me is he good?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Never heard of this guy before but I think it's better they chose someone unknown. Also he is 42 and looks that age. I wonder if they are going to include the Lazarus Pit.

he was in the movie Riddick

he was in Riddick you need to ask around

  7. Kind of bummed that our fantasy casting of Oded Fehr didn't happen, but let's see what this guy can do. Hadn't heard of him until now. It is certainly a challenging role and hopefully they put in the effort to find someone with the necessary gravitas.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Never heard of him. Lot of pressure on him. Hope he delivers.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I honestly don't think Neeson was ever on the table, no matter what he said. An A-list movie actor isn't going to do a CW show, not to mention the issue of his salary.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yeah, you're absolutely right. I think the main issue was the writers probably couldn't afford him so they had to go with someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I will try to see the movie. Or may be not. It might be best to approach with not much expectations.

    ReplyDelete
  12. There was more chance of me playing the role than Neeson. Arrow would blow their entire budget on one episode's salary for him.

    ReplyDelete
  13. In my opinion it's for the best, though. If RAG was played by the same actor from the Nolan trilogy, we'd never hear the end of the whole "Arrow IS the same universe as the Nolan movies!" thing. It has to be clear that this show is its own universe and doesn't share continuity with any other DC property (except the upcoming Flash).

  14. I´m sorry but this is a bad move. I´ve lost every faith in it. I see that they were looking for a bane look-alike, which is okay and for a new character - perfect.

But as Ra´s al Ghul? Where´s the nobility? Where´s the charm?

I´m sorry but I´m heavily disappointed.

  15. Yeah, I saw him and that what disappoints me.

just wait and see.........hard to judge without any footage

    ReplyDelete
  17. He looks a lot like that GoT guy, forgot his name! I never doubt the Arrow casting choice so neither will I now. I HOPE HE WON'T PROVE ME WRONG!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Never heard of him but who knows what he's up to. Maybe he might be better than Oded Fehr or Naveen Andews. Or maye not. I'll wait till I see some footage.

    ReplyDelete
  19. We haven't even seen photos and videos of him as Ra's al Ghul. At least give the poor guy a chance before knocking him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Me too, I would have at least been ok with an Arab/Israeli actor who would look the part (sorry Liam Neeson), I don't know this guy, he'd have to really wow me to get over my disappointment.

how popular was Manu Benett before he was casted in arrow?

    ReplyDelete
  22. his filmography doesen't have too many credits

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was hoping for Pedro Pascal or Olivier Martinez but I can't to see how this guy will fit. I'm sure he will be great

    ReplyDelete
  24. For what it's worth, I'm sure you would have made a great Ra's ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. So do I, but they didn't even ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Um...he was in Spartacus, and The Hobbit.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't think he was that popular I didn't know of him until Arrow all I know was he was in some Spartacus episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. :/ bastards.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah I have to be honest, that's where I am right now. I want to try and keep an open mind but this just doens't feel right. However, only time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was ready to grow out my beard damnit!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah he was pretty well known...not a huge A List Actor but definitly huge within the genre

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pedro Pascal or Alex Seddig

    ReplyDelete
  33. He played Boss Johns in Riddick.

    ReplyDelete
  34. eh...he was in EVERY Spartacus episode. Second lead actually. Also he was in 30 Days of Night.

    ReplyDelete
  35. or in the Reddick trailer

  37. People remember: this being a decoy casting is still in the cards.

He could show up in present day as "Ra's Al Guhl" until he meets Malcolm or Sara who reveal that he's just an imposter and suddenly the real Ra's makes his presence known by offing the decoy.
Looking at Nables filmography really doesen't look impressive at all.

Stephen Amell, John Barrowman, Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, Caity Lotz and even David Nykl have a more impressive filmography.
Not to bash Nable but Arrows writers casting someone with a filmography that 'light' seems pretty unlikely given the significance of the character, the actors he would have to act against and the WORTH that DC connects to that character!

Remember: they had to convince DC to let them use that character, DC being fine with a more than unknown actor would surprise me given all the effort they had to go through to even GET the character.

Sad thing is: I've seen Riddick and can't remember him :I

If he actually got that part he has some shoes to fill, I know that Amell and Barrowman are easy to work with but...well...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wish they went with Pascal or Fehr. But they haven't screwed up casting main villains in the past so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and go in open minded.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I feel for you man.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I know. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree. Its really peculiar they cast someone we hardly heard about as Ra's. After JB and Manu I expected a TV big wig.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh well. Next time, maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I hadn't seen him in anything, but I'd heard of him. Never heard of this guy. But Arrow does have a good record of casting the non-well known actors and succeeding.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'M SOLD - WE HAVE OUR RA'S AL GHUL FOLKS !!!
[ this is from his newest movie "FELL" ]

    ReplyDelete
  46. i have no idea who he is but well lets see

    ReplyDelete
  47. I saw Riddick but I don't remember him but the movie was so boring and forgettable lol.
Did Sara ever meet Ra's? Malcolm seems to know him but I always thought Sara had trained with the League and Nyssa, not Ra's.

    ReplyDelete
  48. not sure, I just assume that she knows him

    ReplyDelete
  49. Mhhm, i liked him in Rideck. He hat the old warrior air to him. Hope he can convince me. I would have thought they would go more with a leaner type, More finess and assasine.

This. I'm gld they went with someone that no one was expecting. They like to create their own versions of those characters, and not the versions we expect. Just see the Flash casting, before anyone saw the guy as Barry, was absolute hate, and then.... Everyone fell for the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Pérola Cardozo Alves4 September 2014 at 22:17

See the casting of "the guy from Glee" as Barry Allen/The Flash that everyone hated... And after people saw the Pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree. I hate Glee and I thought he was going to be atrocious but I ended up loving him.

    ReplyDelete
  53. He might have been "the guy from Glee" but like Colton Haynes, Grant Gustin was really popular among the target audience. Matt Nable is really unknown. He can be compared to Michael Rowe aka Deadshot who was completely unknown before his debut in Arrow. Hell even the guy who played Bronze Tiger, Michael Jai White is pretty popular.

    ReplyDelete
  54. To be honest, I think Stephen Amell was the best example. Not very well known, cast as the lead and has done magnificently well.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well, I guess in the end Liam Neeson was to expensive...

    ReplyDelete
  56. SHIELDNCISArrowfan5 September 2014 at 01:12

he actually would be suitable for Wildcat/Ted Grant

    ReplyDelete
  57. Not at all what I was expecting but I'm glad that I have never heard of him - now I won't have any preconceived notions about how he will portray the character.

    ReplyDelete
  58. HAH! "Never heard of him." "Never heard of him." "Never heard of him."

...unless you're Australian. He is pretty well known with his television work here in Australia - not a long list of credits, but credentials that are known. All you should begin getting used to seeing the Aussies (or Kiwis) in CW shows.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You know, I'm kind of surprised they told us this soon who Ra's is. I thought given that he's such a big character and the main baddy this season they would have kept it under rapes ie kept quite tell the show started as well as casted someone a bit more well known. I mean there was such a big build up to it, a lot of hype and then an actor that very very few have ever heard of,(less then Menu and Bowmen anyway and they were big bads as well) seems odd to me. But oh well, we'll see how it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh hey that dude next to Matt in the screen cap is Felicity's MIT bf.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thank you. I hope I´m wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I didn´t mock the actor in one sentence. But given his outer appearence plus the casting call discribing him as "a Bane-like" character gives me a bad feeling. I mean, why discribing Ra´s al Ghul like Bane and not for who he is?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I didn't say you were mocking the actor, I said you were knocking him! For example, you said "But as Ra's al Ghul? Where's the nobility? Where's the charm?". You haven't even seen photos and footage of him as Ra's al Ghul yet and you're already declaring he's a bad choice for the role.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Since you know him... Is he good? Have you watched his work before other than Riddick?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Being used to it has nothing to do with knowing who people are?!!?!

    ReplyDelete
  66. SHIELDNCISArrowfan5 September 2014 at 07:54

will we see Ubu? Ral al ghul bodyguard/servant? he appear in batman tas and young justice

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have no problem with the actor and I will give him a chance as I´m going to watch season 3. I just think it´s a bad sign, especially considering Marc Guggenheim saying in a Hollywood reporter interview that Ra´s will have an origin true to the comic book, but how is an Australian going to be a convincible middle eastern nomad without stretching the suspension of disbelief to an unbearable amount?

    ReplyDelete
  68. and when he was briefly on The Vampire Diaries as Werewolf Brady he honestly was very unnoticeable and I'd never think he was going to be the lead in his own amazing super hero series.

    ReplyDelete
  69. He was very ordinary in TVD wasn't he? Such a change.
