The Strain - Occultation - Advanced Preview

17 Aug 2014

The Strain airs episode 6, "Occultation", this Sunday, carrying a lot of momentum from last episodes's action-packed hour. We last left Eph on the run from the law for what appeared to be betrayal by his former (is it too early to call Barnes his former boss?) boss, Everett Barnes. Jim Kent was doing his best to redeem himself for his involvement with the dark side by helping Eph escape the best he could. Nora escaped the nursing she was visiting with her mother in tow. Setrakian continued his relentless struggle of eliminating the passengers-turned-strigoi, going down the plane's manifest on-by-one. Vasily provided us with a close up and underground view of the infection taking place and the three remaining 'survivors' from the plane have almost completely turned.
You can expect the same level of action this week as The Strain delivers another fast-paced episode full of horror and creepy vampire confrontations. The episode this Sunday will not answer as many questions we have as 'Runaways' did, but with all the amazing scenes between vampires and our band of heroes you won't notice. What is unique to The Strain is how the writers orchestrate the hour so it feels as though it were 15 minutes in length and the episode this Sunday is no different. I was glued to the screen from thew first moment.

There are a few things that are revealed to us besides the occultation event that has been teased since episode one. For example, this Sunday we will learn what happened to the medical examiner that was attacked in the lab by the strigoi early in the season. I know some fans asked what the purpose of Gus was and Sunday we will learn more. Not much, but more. Vasily also has another up-close interaction with the strigoi, as a new way too take them out is revealed.

Out of all the episodes so far this Sunday's definitely has the most grotesque scenes. There is one scene that is cringe-worthy, while some others reminded me of The Walking Dead. What I am really beginning to enjoy is seeing the apocalypse as it progresses, step-by-step. Vasily also has another up-close interaction with the strigoi, as a new way too take them out is revealed.

Things to Notice

- In episode one, and a few episodes after, we see signs for an occultation event. This Sunday we will see what that means and how it effects Manhattan.

- What does it look like when The Strain vampires 'meet the sun'? One thing is for certain - this is not True Blood.

- Setrakian's plan from the last episode was to go down the manifest for the Regis flight and kill everyone that was on board. does he really think he can accomplish this or is there somehting else he is not telling anyone?

I hope everyone enjoys the episode this Sunday! I look forward to reading your thoughts after I post my Review after the episode airs. Have a great weekend!

  3. Thank you! Lol, I will be honest...it's not that bad...just don't tell anyone. ... no one can see this, right?

:) Jk, it's not that bad if you are accustomed to some HBO stuff.

  6. Yay! Your teasers and reviews are great! And it's also good to know they are keeping up with the faster pace. Sunday can't come soon enough.

  7. Not yet. I think it's a little too early for his character to show up, but you never know.

  8. Thank you!

Yeah the pace is pretty fast. The episode flew by.

  9. Ok thanks. I was assuming it was episode 6 or 7 because del Toro said he shows up halfway into the season. Looking at the premise for the next episode, it looks appropriate for his introduction.

  10. So, I take it things don't turn out too well for that guy Eichorst has chained up in his lair in the previews.

  11. Lol, that was an interesting scene.

  12. Really?!? I had not heard or read that. He was an awesome character in the books, but I did not think we would even see him until Season Two or later. That will be awesome if or when he appears this season.

  13. Thanks for the preview. This might be a little random, but I just watched a movie with my friend where Corey Stoll was in. I never liked Eph's hair but now that I know it's actually a wig, I just wanna set it on fire. *lol*

  14. You're Welcome!

And you made me LOL at setting fire to his wig, lol!

  15. We actually had to pause the movie, so I could google him because I kept bugging my friend about how familiar he seems. He looks so much better without that thing on his head.

Question: Is the cringe-worthy scene the one with the guy who is chained down in that big white room? There were glimpses in the promo and I'm really don't know what to expect.

  16. I've seen photos without that wig and he does look better without it.

That is not the scene I was talking about. The scene is actually not that bad, but was pretty gross.
