Robin and Marian & The 1970 - NBC Developing 2 Musicals

NBC is developing a pair of musicals that will split the difference between its very successful, one-off "Sound of Music Live" and the not nearly as successful ongoing series "Smash."

The two projects, one based on the Robin Hood legend and the other set in the world of 1970s music, are both envisioned as 10-hour miniseries, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Both come from Boardwalk Entertainment Group, and "The Voice's" Adam Levine is on board as a producer of the '70s series.

"Robin & Marian" will be set in the year 1190 and retell the legend of Robin Hood with as many as 60 original songs. Boardwalk is also planning for a touring stage show to follow the TV series.

The tentatively titled "The 1970s" (not to be confused with NBC's 2000 miniseries "The '70s") will tell the story of the decade through the musical artists and executives who helped shape the culture. The plan is to have contemporary stars cover hits from the '70s.

Boardwalk is also developing a musical take on "Romeo and Juliet" for FOX.
