  1. And that's whey you don't do another Pirate show when One is already aired recently. When it comes to Pirates people gotta chose Captains, can't be on 2 boats at once.

  2. What was the other pirate show? Nothing comes to mind.

  3. Black Sails on Starz
    Renewed for season 2.

  4. Guess I didn't get it, even after watching the end of the show twice. Whose head was in the bag? It looked like Teach's but you never got a clear look, just the metal piece. But then we see Teach gazing out across the ocean and walking the beach?

  5. I'm sad it's over. I really enjoyed this show, especially the dialogue.

  6. What happened to Selima made no sense. She was more than capable as demonstrated before at wielding a knife or a sword and she ran to a room covered in pointy ended weapons and yet could not lay hands on one. Was she just supposed to have been so spooked by this mad ghost- like creature that took a bullet and kept on coming that she was too terrified to defend herself ? Cannot imagine what they had planned if a second season had been in the cards.

  7. But that's on a premium network, Crossbones was on NBC. Besides, Crossbones is based on a real character. Black Sails is based on R.L.Stevenson's Captain Flint, with an unknown cast. Apples & oranges.

  8. The finale was not TWO hours! The first hour was a rehash of the night before. What was that for? The final hour was convoluted at best. I was amazed Jagger's ship was able to 'sail' anywhere, after sustaining the blast from the keg of gunpowder blew a gaping hole port-side stern at the waterline! Come on! It should have listed & sunk! My husband builds museum-quality tallships to scale. He's got more books on the hows & whys of those double-hulled ships than you can imagine, and knows their capabilities. From the damage sustained in the footage shown on the program, there's no way Jagger could have sailed anywhere! Which brings up another point. Since Jagger & Edward were engaging in battle, at the time Edward tossed a stabbed Charlie overboard, when did Jagger have a moment to pick up Charlie from the drink? Jagger's ship hit the explosive shortly after Charlie got tossed! The two ships were far enough apart for Edward to get the kegs of gunpowder deployed, so a bleeding Charlie would hsve been shark-bait! It is the Caribbean, noted for sharks!

Considering the money spent creating the lush production on Crossbones, the final hour was cheesy. I'm assuming it was Eisengrim's head which Lowe gave to the Governor of Jamaica. He was the only other clearly bald character who might have possibly passed for Edward's bald pate! And
it was 3 weeks after the battle, when Lowe presented the head! Three weeks post-mortem, in tropical heat, in a bag...truthfully, it would have been a rotting fetid mess! Kind of like an accurate description of this finale!
Certainly not up to the caliber of the series' episodes.

  9. Appreciated your input on the ships and sea battles. I did not think the first hour was quite as much a rehash as you did but, let's face it, this show has always been full of enough holes to qualify as Swiss cheese. The show has been a strange mashup of talented actors, messy plots, weird costumes and staging, and the occasional very good moments. I always liked the conversations between Lowe and Lord Balfour who became odd frenemies. For some strange reason I will miss the show in spite of its faults and maybe due to its idiosyncrasies.

  10. Hi! I watched Friday night's episode. It was exactly that, again. There was nothing in the first hour that was new. I agree with you Lowe & Balfour's interaction was great considering their history. It was the complete opposite of the relationship between Edward and Charlie. Edward, though caring for Charlie as a son, was enraged that Charlie cuckolded him with Selima. (Edward had his hand on the pulse of everyone) That had a lot to do with Edward's over-the-top reaction to Charlie's refusal to obey the 'turn back' order, in order to engage Jagger. It wasn't solely about 'who' was Captain.

I thought the period costuming was good. New Providence had be inhabited since 1666, so by the early 1700s it was well established. Pirates over ran it about that time, Blackbeard among them. So the Spanish influenced bldgs. were appropriate to the time. The trappings were doubtless alluding to the incredible booty the pirates amassed when they out gunned and drove out the Spanish.

Though Edward Teach died very young, I think NBC could have delved deeper into his well-chronicled life. It started with such flourish, then died in a lack-lustre manner. Too bad really.

  11. network means nothing,
based on not so much ether as it gets altered in to fiction and it they become characters.

For me I Been reading One Piece for over 10 years now, and there is a Black Beard character in that series, and for his role alone in that, I decided to not watch more then 1 Ep of this.

I didn't get it, either. It really didn't make sense. It was obviously supposed to be Teach's head... so how was he alive? Did Lowe let him go and then fake a head? I guess we'll never know.

I thought her whole plot line in the end made no sense. Suddenly she wanted Charlie killed? Why? That seemed really weird to me. I enjoyed the show and wish it hadn't been cancelled but I never really got her character or her relationship with Blackbeard. It was all over the place.

  14. I can only guess she wanted Charlie dead because he was party to her indiscretion and she feared Blackbeard finding out. To be honest, a lot on this show was all over the place.

I guess so but it was a total reversal. Oh well. You're right - a lot was all over the place!
