Grey's Anatomy - Season 11 - Meredith, Alex and Jo Spoiler

Series creator Shonda Rhimes tells TVLine that, in Season 11, Meredith, of all people — yes, Meredith, that Meredith — is going to throw a monkey wrench into Alex and Jo’s still-nascent romance.

“Jo is going to be horrified to discover how much time Alex is going to be spending with Meredith,” she previews, “and how much time Meredith is going to be spending [at their] house.”

And, no doubt, Jo will ask the same question we have: Why is this happening? Why, when the drama returns on Sept. 25, will Alex and Mer be joined at the hip? The answer: Cristina.

“Alex feels responsible for her,” Rhimes explains. “He feels like Cristina didn’t just leave him a seat on the board and the shares, she left him Meredith as well.”And, since Mer will not only be dealing with Cristina’s absence and trouble with Derek but also (eventually) the revelation that she has another half sister, she is going to need a (strictly platonic) shoulder to lean on and an ear to bend.

“The two people she talked to before — her husband and her best friend — are now not available to her,” notes Rhimes. “So she’s looking for someone to talk to. And Alex finds himself in the uncomfortable position of being the recipient of a lot of the stuff that Cristina would have been left listening to — sometimes in very funny ways.“They’re the last men standing of those original interns,” Rhimes continues.

“I wouldn’t say they’re becoming besties. [It’s more that] they’ve always had a very close relationship that didn’t ever need a lot of work because they always had a million other people there. Now, it’s sort of the two of them, and they do become closer.”

  1. This is great, I've always enjoyed their friendship.

  2. It's really sad Meredith has no one else to talk to, hopefully Jo doesn't get to jealous, and this situation goes weird, like in many TV Shows. I like their friendship :)

I still feel weird without Christina here, the whole dynamic of the show is going to change.

  3. I don't care for the Jo is jealous storyline but Meredith-Alex has always been one of my favorite things about GA so I am very happy it will get a bigger focus this year.

  4. Mine as well! I remember well in S09 when Mer said Jo in the plane " I know how to speak Alex!"
Alex and Mer have good chemirstry, they were similar screw ups and evolved from it. Will be neat to see them work further as the only 2 left standing Original Interns.

  5. Yeah, I like the Meredith-Alex friendship. They are there for each other, but at the same time can call each other on their crap without really hating each other.

  6. This seems like a really fun idea to me. Awkwardly put-upon Alex is always fun to watch plus this will give all three characters something interesting to do. Almost every plot and subplot Meredith had last season bored me to death so this already seems better and I haven't seen a single frame yet.

  7. I could do without insecure Jo, but I'm so exited about the Mer/Alex development, specially since it specify it's strictly platonic. I don't think I could handle an Alex falls for Meredith storyline...

Meredith and Derek belong together, and Christina must come back to Owen!

  9. I'm so excited about Alex and Meredith friendship - it's been one of my favorite things for years - and Jo has nothing to worry about.
