Doctor Who - Season 8 - Rumor - Jenna Coleman to Leave?

Thanks to nuno for the Submission.

Doctor Who’s companion Jenna-Louise Coleman is set to leave the hit BBC show.

The actress, 28, is believed to be quitting her role as the Time Lord’s assistant in a sensational Christmas storyline.

Her exit could bring an end to her 18 months as Clara Oswald, creating a vacancy for another sidekick to star alongside new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi.

Yesterday a source said: “The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out.

“By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.”

The source added: “It was very much a mutual decision.

“It’s important to keep the series moving and fast-paced, and the time is just starting to feel right and the feeling is that it could be a perfect Christmas storyline.”

  1. Longest standing companions? Maybe if we count from when she first appeared to her last appearance, rather than actual number of episodes...

  2. Was hoping she'd be around for three seasons at least.

  3. Nooo.. She has been one of the best companions. I thought she would stay for a little bit longer.

  4. Of COURSE they would do that to us at Christmas! This is the BBC after all and we all know how much they love to rip our hearts out during "the most wonderful(ly heartbreaking) time of the year...

  5. Hoping this will turn out to be inaccurate. From what I've seen, Clara and Twelve are a particularly awesome team, and it would be a shame to lose that after so few episodes.

  6. Knowing how they're changing things up lately, the next companion will probably be a man.

  7. I'd love that personally...preferably a sexy one. ;)

  8. Maybe the next one will be an actual character instead of another Moffat Mystery Woman.

  9. As long as it isn't a tragic ending like the Ponds or Donna was I'm fine, I would be happy if she just decided to stop travelling and have a normal life and then reunites with the Doctor every so often like Martha did.

  10. I think Danny is pretty cute :)

  11. Excuse me? A season and a half? That's what you call 'long standing'?
NO, screw you, Moffat! You're ruining this show.
I can only hope this isn't true.

  12. Thank god for that.

  13. Meh, she doesn't do anything for me. They should have stuck with the Victorian version of her. If she does leave, please please please no more mystery surrounding the next companion. This was never the case in classic Who so why does it seem the norm for new Who.

  14. I bet Clara will die but another 'Clara' from another place and time will be her replacement.

Well it's all we've got since they don't want Russell T Davis back.

  16. I kind of hope she leaves the way Martha did but a bit more dramatically. From the sounds of it, Twelve doesn't know how to treat people or her properly. I'd kind of like to see her just get sick of him and the constant threat to her life because of his bad decisions and leave.

  17. If Coleman is in fact leaving, I hope she'll hop over to the US and throw her hat in the ring for pilot season.

  18. I love this show but it is emotionally draining, I'm still crying the loss of the ponds and Matt Smith, I can't take another loss, specially Clara because she was the perfect replacement, Jenna nailed it. Still...the mirror is the only one reporting her departure...so there's a little hope there.

  19. Good. Clara was okay at best, not really a character that would stick with me. I miss the companions with attitude, those that wouldn't just snap back at the Doctor but actually make a witty remark that would put the character on par with charisma as the doctor (Captain Jack anyone?).

Clara and Amy are kind of special cases of characters that are 'too special'. Just because the storyline says that they're special that doesen't make the writing, character evolution and acting any special.

  20. Could be, but seems less likely since they've already established that the others are just 'echoes,' and not the 'real' Clara.

  21. Why assume it's Moffat's fault? Even if she really is leaving, (and so far we only have unsubstantiated rumour from a tabloid), it may well have been Jenna Coleman's idea.

  22. I hear that's very much the direction they go with Clara for series 8, focusing on her as a character rather than as a plot point. It's another reason I'm really hoping the rumour of her exit is false.

  23. That is the point.
Oswin Oswald and Clara Oswin Oswald were 'echoes' of Clara Oswald too.

  24. I mean that it would not be hugely satisfying to lose "real" Clara for a version we already know is just a lesser version.

  25. im disappointed shes great :( but i saw this kind of thing coming ever since matt left

  26. I would really like that ending. Jenna Coleman already said in some episodes Clara will try to combine a normal life with Danny and her travels with the Doctor. Maybe at the end of the series she'll realises she wants to live a normal a life and she decides to stop travelling with the Doctor..

  27. Death is so not needed, I mean admittedly none of the Nu Who companions have died but all of them apart from Martha had tragic/sad departures, I just want a relevantly normal one for once!

  28. Read the second and fourth, they're key: Anonymous attribution, no one from the BBC confirming this. It's from the Daily Mirror, who, knowing them, pulled this out of thin air. This is fake, people!

  29. Nooooooo... please don't let her go — JL is far and away the hottest actor the show has had for decades! she is certainly making up for the shortcomings of Dr Fugly Smith and Dr Defunct Capaldi.
