Castle - Season 7 - Amann & Marlowe Tease New Season

1 Aug 2014

Thanks to Cris for the heads up.

What can you preview about the premiere?

David Amann: It’s going to be dealing with the aftermath of what happened in the season finale. We have some really intriguing questions that are going to arise from this about what happened to Castle. So we’re going to raise some interesting questions for the next couple of episodes in terms of what happened to Castle and why. It opens us up for some great mythology opportunities for CASTLE that we’ll also be probably revisiting later in the season.

What can you tease about the state Castle will be in when we see him in the premiere?

Andrew Marlowe: In the opening episode, we’re going to be dealing with what happened to Castle, and the ramifications of it are something we’re going to be dealing with through the course of the season.
What we’re hoping to do, and the reason we’re excited — because we know some fans weren’t — by the way we ended last season, is it gave us an opportunity to open up a new mythology element, because we know where we’re going. And if the fans give us a couple of episodes, I think they’ll see that pay off.

In the first couple of episodes, we will be wrestling with the questions of what happened to Castle, and it’s important for us to communicate to the fans that we’re not doing anything to radically alter the trajectory of the Castle/Beckett relationship. These are two people who are very much in love, who are going to be challenged by something here, but we’re not saying this is going to tear them apart or anything. It’s just a new set of circumstances that is going to create a mystery that is going to be part of the upcoming season.
The whole season isn’t going to be filled up with it, though. We’re going to deal with it in the first couple of episodes, we’re going to get back to the kinds of CASTLE episodes that we all know and love and expect, with a relationship that has deeper understanding, and also deeper curiosity to it. And it’ll also take that relationship to a much more interesting place, we feel. And so we know the fans were a little bit like, “What are you guys doing?” We have something planned that we’re kind of excited about, and we hope that people come back and play along.

DA: When we get through episode two, we will resolve some questions of what happened to him, but not all of them. [The open questions] will be hanging out there in ways that can’t be pursued any further [for the meantime]. But our plan is that we will reopen it later on.

AM: Quite possibly in the [mid-season] two-parter.

How is Beckett holding up post-finale? We saw her grief in the immediate aftermath, but will she at least be able to put her head down and try to get to the bottom of everything?

DA: She’s committed to getting to the bottom of what happened with Castle. That’s really her focus and her mission. She’s going to do that, and she’s going to take that as far as she can go to get answers. That’s what she’s focused on.

  2. They better not drag this wedding out some more. Not here for that.

  3. The wedding better happen pretty fast.

  4. I was not a big fan of any wedding episode, but IMHO if somebody writes a "heroic love story" and knows that the only thing what brings the audience back to the screen is its main couple, AM should have owed a proper wedding. To all of those fans who suffered through the past seasons with the invisible Josh and Gina, the Biggggg Secrits, and Castle being a douchebag mutiple times.

If he felt that he needed to obstruct it with such a cliche way (I agree in this with elle j.) it means that he really has no clue about what the hell he can do with these two after they get married. No "new mythology" worthed the ruse (and the way how he "pegged down" the superperfect detective Barbie he made from Beckett) and I'm sure that after the first few episodes, when the big smoke of mystery will be cleared, there will be no reason why it should have happened before their (and the fans) happy moment. Except of course AM's appeal to a worthless melodrama.

Claiming as a big thing that they know where they want to go is like one wants selling a car heralding that its engine is working. That's the 101 of any show, not the paramount of the writing. (Not to mention that doesn it mean that it was not the case before?)

  5. "there’s several months of not having any answers of exactly what happened."

Did they mean to imply that Castle will missing for months? If so that is a pretty huge spoiler.

  6. My theory... I think it has something to do with his work in the CIA years ago.
I think he was part of some mission that he had to kill someone in it, and the deceased family are looking for payback for what he did.
Didn't he spent a year with the CIA before joining Beckett?
His "CIA girlfriend" said that in the two-parter episode in season 4.
That will make finding answers very hard if it all was classified.

Castle never worked for the CIA. In the season 4 2-partner Jessica Beals character says she was interviewed by Castle to create a character for his Derek Storm series. She also says Castle only got the interview because of his father. In season 5 we meet Castle's father who is basically a black ops specialist. Castle himself pretty much went from poor college student to writer.

  8. I don´t know if "worked" with the CIA is the right word, but he didn´t just interviewed the J.Beals character, he said to Beckett he shadowed her for a year, if I remember correctly (and I was blessed with a great memory):)

no castle won't be missing for months they're saying the story arc will be left for a while and they will continue with the normal castle episodes (you know, someone dies, castle and Beckett solve it, and all the cute caskett moments in between) for a while and then they are going to bring that story arc back in and hopefully gave our answers.

  11. The building of a Castle arc sounds intriguing, but it shouldn't come at the expense of devoted fans who waited six seasons for the promised nuptials only to have their dedication betrayed by a cheap attempt at a cliffhanger. Marlowe is rolling the dice on a series of regurgitated obstructions that Castledom has seen since the series inception. Regardless of the quality of the episodes, the marriage will hang over every story line like the Sword of Damocles until the wedding takes place. Seem insane to think that Caskett wouldn't be able continue the investigation of Mr.X even after they tie the knot.
Here again Marlowe has painted himself into a corner. All the nice sentimental touches he used for the run up to the faux nuptial are out the window. Anything less than a spectacular ceremony will sound like a huge "THUD" in the hollowed halls of ABC. Hope those dice don't come up snake eyes.

  12. I actually gave up on this show a long time ago .since I heard they r gonna do a castle based arc mythology I m right back on.still Dont know what they r gonna do to make a char who is a writer .maybe I missing something

  13. I doubt she'll get pregnant anytime soon. & maybe marry in the mid-episode of the season... We don't really know a lot of Castle's background story just yet. The writers are focusing on Castle, just like on how they were trying to peel the mystery on Beckett's life. After all it is "CASTLE!"

    ReplyDelete
  14. Actually, he sounds like he will be missing for months - but there's a time jump. It's similar to the season six premiere. It'll start where we left off and then jump ahead. So the show won't have him missing for several months but within the Castle universe he will have been presumed dead for months.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't think that's right. Some spoilers were that Beckett would be crying, Ryan and Espo would comfort her and just then Alexis would tell that there is nobody in the car. There is no way they are gonna make Castle just gone for months, especially not with everybody thinking he's dead.

  16. A wedding is a closure. It can be the beginning, but very barely. After wedding, there can't be any other thing in the relationship other than being more and more understanding. It is at least the beginning of the end. Kids can't work on Castle, as both characters are not detectives, and Castle won't need to stay at precinct. Though, yeah wedding should take place now, but a finale cliffhanger to introduce a big great villain, is better than a finale wedding. Though, now I guess wedding should happen quick, as people really have suffered many things, Josh, Gina, Eric, everything.

  17. Ya! I meant she will get pregnant when the series is ending. There isn't much more they could do after Castles background get fleshed out.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You could be right,i read it differently. I thought i remember someone saying there wasn't a time jump in 'Castle's universe.'.... Not much longer now till we find out!

    ReplyDelete
  19. That's what I think the final season will be or at least the end of the final season will be. Beckett get's pregnant, then they decide what the means for their future, does she remain a cop, even if that's the case, i don't think castle continuing to shadow her would be a possibility. Which means the ending of their partnership at work, the ending of the show but still is happily ever after for them, even if bitter sweet. At least that's how I would write it.

  20. I am guessing that 3XK is involved in this, somehow...

  21. I'm all for Castle backstory (it's about damn time) but I don't want a new mythology to happen in order to get Castle's history. How am I to believe that nothing about his past this big didn't come up before? It's as believable as Beckett not knowing she was married before.

  22. "In the first couple of episodes, we will be wrestling with the questions of what happened to Castle"
So what does it mean? That they will not find Castle in the first or at least the second episode? Because I mean, if they found Castle, then they can just ask him what happend, right? So does this mean it will take longer then 2 episodes to find him? I know we will see him in the second episode because of some set pictures from twitter etc, but I really hope it will not be him like being locked up in a place somewhere. I really, really hope it will not take any longer then 7x02 to find him or something. Because I will really get frustrated and cry okay.

  23. I just wish Andrew and David would shut up and keep quiet about the show. The more I hear from Marlowe, the less I trust him. The idea of setting up the fans for a wedding and then writing a cliffhanger was borderline unforgivable. The fans and interested parties were coming back for season 7. We did not need a cliffhanger to pique our interest or challenge our loyalty. Castle fan for life but extremely disappointed with my former favorite show runner. Shonda Rhimes now owns that title.

  24. Then time for you to move on and stop reading about the show.

  25. Tnt got me hooked and now i feel like i am watching Bones relived. The writers and specifically Mr. Marlowe has risked the show on a very choppy and disheartining ending. Veritas was a very well done episode and then the debacle ending came on. Nathan even is now in the camp that Stana Katic has been in which is the wedding cant wait much longer or you wont have a series left to do. I am ready to come to L.A. to find out whether the show can be bought and maybe some common sense will prevail. There are talented writers who seem to want to keep angering this loyal fan base and it wont hold forever. They need a beautiful wedding and there is plenty of storylines after marriage. Wake up guys before the clock stop ringing.
