Pretty Little Liars:Miss Me x 100 Review- "The Episode Wherein It Gets Real"

Last night, we celebrated the 100th episode of Pretty Little Liars with the return of some noticeably absent and characters, the start of some new..old...new relationships, and -A made his/her return with a BANG.

The episode opened with Hanna and Travis checking out some stars and talking about Alison's return to school. Hanna's worried that things will seem like they're going right back to how they were P.A.D. (Pre-Ali's Death). Travis reminds her that she doesn't have to go, but we all know she does so that we can get that killer-mean-girl-slow-mo entrance that we've been waiting 5 seasons to see.

That same night, Ezra and Aria are out walking on a not-date, and spot Alison talking to someone in a truck that pulls off as soon as they see it. Ali gives them some excuse about the truck dropping off school forms to her, but I honestly don't believe anything that comes out of her mouth at this point. As the girls are out, awkwardly standing around the guy they both used to date, they spot a bus that literally says "Special" and off steps none other than Jenna. Ali's jaw drops because even she realizes this means trouble.

The girls rally up and give Ali a pep talk about her decision to return to school, saying that they'll have her back no matter what she ends up doing. Ali seems more scared of Jenna finding out she's back, than she does returning to school from the dead.

The next day is the big day. Ali gives herself a pep talk and prepares to step back into her role as Queen Bee of Rosewood High, but is unsure of how people will receive her. Meanwhile, the other girls have beat her to school and wonder if she'll even make it. Ali does indeed make it and everyone stares as expected, with Lucas and Mona giving the side-eye of all side-eye

Once the 5 are all together, they made their way through the hallway as if nothing had changed, if only for that moment.

Shortly after, Veronica suddenly pulls Spencer out of school and tells her that she's leaving Mr. Hastings and taking Spencer with her. Spencer looks shocked, but Veronica won't go into much more detail at that moment.

Elsewhere, Lucas is chatting Hanna up about a fake  new girlfriend he has somewhere, before he invites her to a party. Hanna accepts the invitation but after she walks away Lucas makes a phone call to someone.

Back at Casa de Hastings, Spencer is demanding answers from her mom, who really just wants to get the hell on and away from Mr. Hastings. It turns out, Veronica never actually checked in to that spa that Mr. H. sent her to last week. Instead, she hired a PI to follow Mr. Hastings and found out that Peter and Melissa weren't where they said they would be the night of Mrs. D's death. Of course, she didn't say where they were, however, because that would make our lives way too easy.

Aria is talking to the girls back at school about how she wants to go visit Jenna as a way to clear her conscience, but everyone thinks it's a bad idea. Aria goes anyway but gets too freaked out to speak when she finds a curled up ball of Jenna on the floor crying over Shana.

Emily hosted an extremely uncomfortable intervention with Paige and Alison, that didn't accomplish much besides Paige telling Ali she was glad she was gone to her face and Alison apologizing.

Meanwhile, Spencer and Hanna have a chat at Hanna's about what's going on with Spencer's family and it seems like at this point she's more upset about her parents getting a divorce, than the possibility that her father murdered her best friend's mother (#HastingsPriorities).

Hanna runs into none other than Caleb (!) at The Brew. He's back from the cancelled town on Ravenswood and stops to chat with Hanna for a second...until he spots her 2 coffee cups, one labeled: Travis. As soon as Hanna turns back around, Caleb is gone. How does Hanna handle being ditched by her ex while grabbing coffee for her next? She goes to Lucas' party and pours it up of course!

Alison is (once again) walking the streets of Rosewood in the middle of the night like someone didn't try to actually murder her, and realizes that she's being followed. She runs to the nearest church and is confronted by none other than Mona. The two have a verbal catfight that turns physical when Mona slaps Ali after Alison threatens to have her end up in the same position she started from...nowhere. Alison slaps back but must have on brass knuckles or something because she cuts Mona's face.

Later that night, Ali tells the girls about the fight with Mona but lies about hitting Mona back, saying she just stood there and the girls believe her.

The shippers got some good action last night because Ezria, Spoby and Emison ALL HAPPENED! Ezra showed Aria his scar that looks more like a stab wound than an bullet wound, and Aria immediately made out with him (not weird at all), Spoby talked about the possibility of Spencer leaving, and Ali confessed her feelings for Emily (which I'm not entirely sure isn't just her manipulating Em) and then everybody had sex.

The next day at school, the girls were welcomed by Mona showing an edited video of the slap fight around, which made Ali look like she was the aggressor. Uh-oh. That's enough proof for most people that Ali hasn't changed and even her girls aren't sure what to make of the situation. It looks like Mona's aiming to divide and conquer.

Jenna doesn't waste much time stirring up trouble and it turns out the new girl, Sydney, is in on all of this with her! Honestly of ALL the characters on this show, I really just want to know what Jenna's deal is! People connected to her keep dying and she somehow always finds new minions.

Everyone ends up at Emily's house that evening when they hear the news announce that the girl buried in Ali's backyard was Bethany Young, a 17-year-old patient that allegedly ran away from Radley around the time Ali disappeared. Immediately after the announcement...BOOM!

Someone blew up Toby's house and half the block (RIP again Emily's living room) and Toby runs to make sure Jenna wasn't inside. Seconds later, all 5 girls get a text...we all know what that means...

Cut to our first -A scene of the season, where it seems like -A is at the high school, playing with a new doll and dollhouse, eating some pizza and just being generally suspicious.

Check in next week for my newest review...I'm pretty interested to see how half of Rosewood will recover from being blown up.

  2. I loved the episode but I find it really silly to have -A hiding, since it is probably Mona again or one of her loosers. It'd have been more interesting knowing who A is and seeing her in action.
And also I know Marlene King would never change the format of the show, Im sure she was dying to have A back to be all mysterious and interesting.

  3. Haha loved the Nene Leaks side eye!
Really hope Sydney isn't Jenna's twin. I'm hoping its all a red herring but who knows any more! All i can say is, even though it would be predicable for Ali to have a twin i would be so disappointed in the intelligence of the writing if they had placed all those twin clues in Ali's room only to reveal someone else has a twin! That would be ridiculous and would make the writers seem like they had gotten way in over their heads and couldn't tie up rational questions and clues that they've spent 4 years writing in.
Don't get me wrong I love PLL and I watch every week because I trust the writers will tie all this up in a logical and interesting fashion. ( I just hope they don't let me down). My worst nightmare would be that Sydney is Jenna's twin that somehow Toby didn't know about and the two of them are A working with Mona. That would be an easy get out plot that fans could have theorized long before the season 5 finale.
Love how the episode progressed though, even though certain events could have had an entire episode dedicated to them ( Haleb's first reunion, Ali's first day back at school, the Mona/Ali face off ) I felt the rushed pace was necessary to progress the show. There are so many questions that need definitive answers so that the fans can get on the right track ready for the end of season 5. Really loving Lucas this season, and I'm completely unsure of his true motive.
I still feel like they're going for the twin thing with Ali. This would nicely tie it all in. Ali's scar on her leg could be from the twin Halloween story. Allegedly one sister was sent away, to Radley maybe. This could be how the show ties in the dead girl in Ali's grave and Toby s mum because the twin is this crazy blonde girl Dr Palmer speaks of. If this twin escaped from Radley and attacked Ali, that would explain why Mrs D covered up Ali's "death" (literally). The Hastings family (except Spencer) may know about the twin cover up and that is why they are all so shady keeping secrets and making deals. Mona was in Radley so i guess that would be how she met A (aka twin 1 or 2 ) and stepped up her game. Also in the Halloween story the sisters had a fight over a doll A is obsessed with dolls. Throw in a load of twin references and a tonne of clues in Ali's room and i think the show is set for its conclusion of A. After all this show is about Alison. Every lie, cover up and shady person in Rosewood all leads back to Ali somehow. -A is for Alison it started with her and i think it finishes with her. ( Or at least a sisterly version of her).

  5. Crazy theory but what if Mona killed Bethany Young and put her in Ali's grave? Mona was the last person to see Ali after Carla Grunwald pulled her out of that shallow grave. In fact Mona was one of very few people that knew Alison was still alive from the very beginning. I can't remember whether Mona actually denied her part in that when the girls sat her down and grilled her but still, its Mona! I wouldn't necessarily believe anything that she says until the end twist is reveled. or Ali for that matter, but both Ali and Mona confirm the flashback of how Mona "helped" Ali disappear. When that girl was found in Mayas back garden (Ali's old and now present home). Everyone believed it was Alison. That is exactly what Mona wanted, she wanted everyone to think Ali was dead instead of missing. Alison's death left an opening for Mona to become the new mean girl at school and with people thinking that Ali could be alive somewhere Mona might not have been quite as successful at getting everyone to idolize her instead. Also this could have been Mona's insurance to make sure that it wasn't so easy for Ali to just waltz back in to Rosewood after going missing.

  6. That's actually a really good theory! Mona's definitely crazy enough to do it too!

  7. I absolutely believe Ali is at the heart of all this and isn't fit to be trusted. There have been so many references to Ali not being herself or not being who she used to be or the girls not knowing her when they knew her, that I don't think your twin guess is too far off track.

    Love the way you think!

  8. Haha yeah...I feel like -A could be someone else now, but I have no idea how they're going to spin that. Mona straight up told Ali that she didn't need to hide anymore and that she sent the New York minute text. I don't know who else -A would be at this point thought...Still could be pretty much anyone!

  9. I think Ali is still up to no good. Considering her ordeal she's not very humble is she lol You would think being buried alive by your own mum might make you realize that you know,... you've been a bit of a bitch to everyone! But Ali still holds first place for the most self entitled whiny brat of the year. I'm not a big fan of Paige either, but i thought it was hilarious when she told Ali she felt glad when she thought she was dead! Paige totally burned her and it was amazing!!

  11. What if Toby was the person that stepped out of the car when Mona, Jenna & Sydney where plotting revenge. Mona mentioned that now the girls have turned on Alison ( except foolish Em of course). They could get rid of her for good. I thought that A was the person that met Jenna and the others. But what if it was Toby and hes on the A team for good or bad reasons. Toby was talking to Spence earlier in the episode about whether anyone could really trust Alison. Next thing the Tobster's house blows up, he runs over to it and the A text arrives. Toby was the only person that left the group before the text arrived. The rest of the group were all together. However we do know that Mona and A like setups and making people look suspicious, A also likes to get others to do their dirty work so while A is munching on pizza and playing with dolls, someone else was probably rigging that bomb. No one would expect Toby and Jenna to blow up their own house. They may even make it look like Ali did it. That would be perfect revenge for Toby considering he went to kiddie jail for Ali's Firecracker extravaganza and Jenna, well an eye for an eye and all that! (very bad pun) I'm not saying Toby is A but i think he may have more involvement. (I'm personally still going with the Ali twin theory) Initially I thought he was good, even when he was supposedly A, but then I saw "Shadow Play" and ever since then I get this feeling that Toby isn't all good. I think if Toby where on the A team it would be for the purpose of getting rid of Alison not necessarily hurting Spencer and the others.

  12. I do too! I believe Marlene said in interviews that they'll address it on PLL somehow. They wanted to tie the loose ends of Ravenswood up for the fans :)
