I think Sharon's proposition for Rusty is going to be about adopting him. Adoption was mentioned in relation to Rusty in an article about Season 3. I had a feeling it would happen one day and think the timing for it is right. Rusty Raydor has a nice ring to it.

Yeah that was reported major recurring story line in this season. That said, I'm not certain if the timing really is right. Even after all the horrible things his mother said to him, Rusty still clearly is conflicted over the fact that he loves his mother unconditionally. Don't get me wrong, it's all great from a practical perspective... but how often is the practical perspective the best one?

Well, I'm not saying Rusty won't have any conflicts about this life-altering course of action. It'll probably take him some time to get used to the idea and the adoption process takes time so it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't until the end of this season that Rusty is officially adopted.

    Ok, good point.

I have to admit, one of the major strengths of the show (besides the semi-annual Flynn/Provenza screw up) is the same major strength The Closer had. The professional/personal relationship the main character has with someone else. In The Closer it was Brenda/Fritz, here it's Sharon/Rusty. Sharon adopting Rusty would be the equivalent of Brenda and Fritz's marriage. A way to show the permanent mark each character has left on the other.

I agree. I love the comparison.
