2014 Character Cup - Round 4

28 Jul 2014

As we proceed to round 4, only 8 characters are left out of the original 64. Congratulations to Vincent Keller, Tyrion Lannister, Kate Beckett, and Chandler Bing for making it to round 4 today. Fun Fact - Brennan and Chandler have the biggest spread between their original ranking and how they are doing now. Today is our Elite 8 contestants, and I expect the voting to be more intense from this point out as we speed to a winner. Hopefully someone you like is still in. Thanks for participating and commenting. Until tomorrow, happy voting!

Previous contest results - Final rankings for all characters out in the second round now up. Final rankings have been moved to the top. Inital rankings below

Polls end - Monday around 5:00 pm CST

Prediction contest results - Chandler broke everyone's bracket. Who knew he would go this far? After last round, Janna pulls into the lead again with 11 misses while Famous 4 It has 12.

TV Talk Topic - Inspired by a conversation last week with Blue Star, today we're talking about how TV has changed you, besides just taking up a lot of hours and maybe money. Have you ever found your viewpoint on a subject swayed? Have you developed a new perspective? Has it made you more aware of something? Has it ever inspired you to try a new hobby or get deeper into an old one? Have you learned a new technology for a show? Has TV added to your vocabulary, your music selection, or your wardrobe? Have you ever bought something because it was advertised on your favorite show as a sign of support? Has TV helped you make new friends or develop stronger relationships?

  1. My Picks -

    1. Brennan - Mostly because Patrick Jane is my least favorite character in this contest, although if House were in it he'd take that crown.

    2. Dean - He is my favorite character in the contest and I can't stand what they did to Felicity's character.

    3. Tyrion Lannister - He's going to need the help and it would be nice to have an underdog win.

    4. Regina - She's a great character with a complex story and I hate what Castle became with the romance

  2. Felicity and Chandler. Jeez, Round 4 already? That's come around quick.

    ReplyDelete
  3. 4 polls a day every day and you get done in 17 days tops. I ran a 128 item contest for Supernatural once and that thing took forever.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yeah, my Ep Comp takes 17 days but it seems like it's gone so quick!

  5. It does go by quickly especially when so many great people take the time to comment. It's been a fun contest for me but still it is time to come to a close. Last Week in TV and reviewing have taken a backseat for too long now and I am considerably behind again.

  6. Dean Winchester and Tyrion Lannister.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sorry,i'm running out the door but here is who i voted for: Brennan, n/a, Tyrion Lannister, and Chandler tho i don't think he will make it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. To each their own. For instance, I won't vote for Jane or Vincent no matter who they go up against, which will likely take me out of the final vote. Unless they go against the other two, I won't vote for Felicity or Beckett either. I think both characters got ruined from being strong, independent characters to victims of shipping. I will however vote for Dean for as long as he can go, which is likely this round. :-P I know many people who will vote for anyone but him.

  9. TV Topic: How TV Has Changed Me
(Well besides the time consumption and money with all the amazon/itunes/DVD buys.)

Supernatural was the major show that changed me. I went from writing original stories as a hobby to mostly focusing on writing fanfiction (on .net) for the show (DeanCasLover22 there). Dean also got me used to swear words. lol

I also joined in with talking to fans online during Supernatural's season 4 for the first time on the CW lounge. I made several friends there and we left the site together when things towards the end started getting very negative. We went to a different more private site. Not long after I ended up joining the conversation on Spoiler TV as well (because I was addicted to spoilers once I found the site because of SPN).

One of my online Supernatural fan friends and I talk by email regularly. She lives in Poland! I'd never have imagined having a close friend so far away, but we are close. And it's almost scary how often we agree on things about Supernatural and now Dominion! (We also talk about everyday stuff too). Having a friend as into these 2 shows as me is awesome.

I owe Dominion for getting me on Twitter. I'm already over 200 posts since joining around when episode 3 aired. Dominion fandom is so fun and together there. The actors and creator are great on there too.

TV/fandom has made me more comfortable and accepting of other people's ideas and attitudes. And fandoms have given me a way to talk about shows my family doesn't watch. Great way to also be able to discuss shows in detail.

  10. Surpisingly I am now voting for Chandler to win the whole thing. I really want an underdog to win and someone who entered the contest at 43rd place is about as big of an underdog as you get.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jane, Felicity, Vincent and Chandler. That was relatively easy except the last poll, I love them both but like I said before Chandler is one of my all time favourite characters.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 1. Brennan - My first TV love. Bones was my first "adult" show that I watched way back when.
    2. Felicity - I'm so happy to see her this far! Hopefully she can make it through.
    3. N/A
    4. Oo, um, hm... Beckett.. I don't think Chandler will make it past here.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The shows I watch are not the ones that anyone in my "real life" watches - or at least not on a weekly basis, so fandom gives me a chance to discuss my favorites as well. I also have a couple of friends that I've made from fandom too. One lives in Ireland and I look forward to visiting with her face to face when I go to visit there in a couple of years. Like you, I would never have met half the people I talk to on a regular basis now without TV like SPN.

  14. We are at the point in the contest that things are very easy for me too. It's kind of a relief after all those hard choices. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  15. My parents stopped watching Supernatural sometime during Season 4/5 at the height of my love for it so it was hard. My mother watches Dominion, a cousin watches both shows now, but neither of them are quite into the shows like me. My best friend off line doesn't share the same shows as me so yeah, online is really the only place for me to really vent my love and discuss a show.

    Felicity, Tyrion, Beckett.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's awesome that you have a first "adult" show. I have no idea what mine would be. I watched a lot of TV with my parents as a kid, some of which was definitely not kid TV. Perhaps Hill Street Blues. I agree that Chandler will probably be out in this round, but I am rooting for him. He has gone so much farther than I ever expected him to.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, there was a poll in the third round I think it was between Buffy and Jane I couldn't choose so I closed my eyes and moved the mouse in circles and voted for the character the cursor landed on lol

    ReplyDelete
  19. everyoneissleeping27 July 2014 at 23:51

    1. Jane, but I'm okay with either of the two winning.
    2. I don't watch either of the shows.
    3. Tyrion.
    4. Chandler gets a pity vote since I seriously doubt he stands any chance against Kate... and I just don't like Castle.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I made my dad and sister-in-law watch season 1 of SPN on these terrible quality DVDs I made myself from my DVD recorder. In retrospect, it probablywould have been a better idea to wait until the real DVDs came out, but I was so anxious to be able to talk to someone about it. Today when they realize that it is still on the air, they are shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ha! Thanks for another tiebreaker method. I generally toss a coin, do the random number generator, or just don't vote.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I so want to visit my friend someday too. She says she would want to too if she visits America someday.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tyrion got the pity vote for me today. My guess is that both Tyrion and Chandler are out this round.

    ReplyDelete
  24. everyoneissleeping27 July 2014 at 23:56

Probably... Then again, I thought Regina would win against Chandler for sure o_O I hope Tyrion will have more luck (well, let's face it - he won't, but still...).

    ReplyDelete
  25. I haven't bought clothes because of shows either. But I do have this shirt that has wings on it that I like to wear when Dominion is on. Silly tradition.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh I've picked up the words "awesome" and "idjits" from Supernatural.

Also anytime TAHITI is mentioned I say "It's a magical place." (Agents of Shield!)

    ReplyDelete
  27. She was winning for most of the time, if not by a whole lot at least a comfortable amount. Chandler came on strong in the last few hours. It was a great race to watch. Finers crossed for both.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Brennan, Felicity, and Chandler. I could never get into Beauty and the Beast or Game of Thrones.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's where my brother and sister-in-law are at right now. I laughed when they first told me they were going there.

    ReplyDelete
  30. lol That's awesome. No one in my family has gone there yet.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mine too are surprised. And for the longest time my mother believed I was too into the show. Now it's Dominion I'm consumed with. Almost Human was stuck between them. I admit to rushing to my car after a school meeting several times trying to get home to catch the last half hour of Almost Human (meeting would end around 8pm).

    ReplyDelete
  32. As for the TV Topic...

TV has changed me so much. Most importantly, without TV, I wouldn't be a part of this site or run my own site. TV has enabled me to be able to be involved with all of this great stuff. And through that, I've been able to interact with some great people (despite the fact that I've never met them) about things that we really enjoy and can talk lots about.

There's obviously a lot more that it's had an effect on, like knowledge. So much general knowledge can be found in TV. But the first bit is to me, the most important.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My first "adult" show was Charmed. Or the first I remember clearly watching anyway.

Buffy, Angel, and One Tree Hill I think came after. I might have caught them on occasion when my parents watched before Charmed, but Charmed was my first love.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That's the most important part for me too - the people I've "met" and the way I have grow as a person.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mine is 24. And to date, it's still my favourite show ever.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My first TV love was Silver Spoons and then Growing Pains. My first major family shows were Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazard. My first major TV obsession was Buffy and then X-Files. My first guilty pleasures were Beverly Hills 90210 (seasons) and Dawson's Creek (3 seasons I think. Whenever they graduated high school.)

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's awesome that it was your first and still your favorite, given how much TV you've seen since then.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It depends on what fails28 July 2014 at 00:15

I'm all about the right side of the contest, go Chandler (but his underdog run ends here) and Tyrion.

Knowing BATB fans Tyrion's lead is surprising but he's got only 20% of the votes he needs to a safe win.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I can't watch an episode mid way through. I can go up to maybe 10 minutes/first commercial break but then my OCD kicks in and I have to wait until I can see the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1.Brennan:I like Bones a lot although I stopped watching it in season 7 or 8 because I didn't have enough time.
2.Felicity:She's so sweet. I want her to be with Oliver
3.Tyrion: Like I said before,he's the best of character of got.
    4. Beckett:I prefer Kate over Chandler.

    ReplyDelete
  41. My TV obsession list has gone: Charmed, Supernatural, Almost Human, and Dominion.

Person of Interest is right up there too, but because I don't spend as much time talking about it I'd consider it just a love. It's only been my favorite show for a short period one. Usually always takes second to my latest obsession.

My most long term obsession was Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thing is, because I was quite young when I watched 24, it was the only 'adult' show I watched so when it finished in 2010, it was still the only 'adult' show I'd watched, and I think that sort of helps sway it in that direction. Plus it was so awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Brennan, Felicity, and Vincent for me.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My mum will quite happily turn an episode off with 5 minutes left and come back to it later that day or even the next day. I can't understand how she does it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's opposite for me. The two people I am most rooting for (besides a come from behind total victory by Chandler now) are on the right side. It is the middle of the night for many of the BatB fans who vote here. They tend to come on more strongly at the wee hours of morning my time and then throughout the day.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I only ever did it for Almost Human. I don't like to either, but would do it for Dominion as well if I had to.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Egads! That would drive me nuts. I have a hard enough time keeping people from interrupting me during a live tweet. I can't imagine voluntarily not seeing the end of an episode right then.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ahhhhh!!!!! That would kill me. Even if it was a show I casually watch. I need to finish what I started.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I do always forget how young you actually are mostly because you present yourself so well here and do so much. It also helps that it was on for so long so you can really get wrapped up inteh characters.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's more a case of she has 30 minutes before she has to go somewhere so she watches 30 minutes and saves the rest for later. Why start it if you can't finish it right then and there? (Note: I may have done this once attempting to watch as much of Arrow 2.20 as possible before I went out - though I only managed to watch 9 minutes. The pressure got to me.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love Bones and Castle so definitely Brennan and Beckett. Felicity is great too. Haven't watched The Mentalist, Friends, Batb and Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Dean, Chandler and Tyrion for me today. Those are some heavy hitter, fan favorites. This round could be very interesting.
TVT: I don't know if TV changed me as much as I just grew into myself along with the various shows. My earliest favorite TV memory is of watching the original Dark Shadow reruns and The movie The Birds. Then there was a little show in the early 80's called Wizards and Warriors. It was only 8 episodes but at the time, I didn't care. I just loved it. I've always liked SciFi, the spooky and the supernatural. I'd say online gave me a place to meet other people who love the same. No one in my every day life is as geeky as me. My sister and I geek out over Arrow and The 100 but that's it. She's slowly coming around to Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thanks. Yeah, the only real issue was that I watched it in the order of: 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8. So when people who I've seen die in seasons 4 and 5 are in a life-threatening situation in seasons 1-3, I know they survive, which is an absolutely terrible way to watch a show.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I went Buffy, Sliders, X-Files, Dawson's Creek, Roswell, Everwood, and then kicked into overdrive with Supernatural for 7 long years. I don't currently have a TV obsession although Teen Wolf is probably the closest I come right now. Sleepy Hollow has a chance to become an obsession this season but there haven't been enough episodes yet to make me full blown into it. I am however pretty sure that nothing will ever beat SPN in the amount of time and money I spent on it. There will never be another show like Supernatural for me. To be honest, I won't let it ever get that far again. I mean I transcribed episodes of SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yeah, my OCD wouldn't let me do that either. There are very few shows I can jump into the middle of and be okay with it. mostly those are crime procedurals.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ha- I'm glad I'm not the only on who does that. One of my co-workers is planning her honeymoon and she asked me what I thought of TAHITI. I of course responded with "It's a magical place" followed by a fair amount of snickering. She gave me a strange look and said "Oh, I didn't know you've actually been there." To which I responded with loud belly laughs and tears from laughing so hard. Fortunately, said co-worker already knows I'm a little crazy :-) so she just waited me out until I could explain!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ha! This made me chuckle. The only time I will break up an episode on purpose is when I am reviewing it and chances are by that time I've already watched it at least twice.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I only got into it because I woke up one morning and my mum was watching the season 4 premiere. I distinctly remember being ill that day.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ah, it is hard to explain to non-TV people why things are just so funny. I still break out laughing every time I hear someone say "coupon" because I am always thinking of Dracula Shifter from Supernatural when they do, I swear I sometimes hear it in his goofy voice too. That and pudding, make me snicker.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'll break up an episode when I review it, but I'd just skip to the important scenes and rewatch those rather than watch 5 minutes, pause and write eight times per review.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I had never heard of Dark Shadows until my best friend in college introduced me to it. My kiddos were surprised when I said the movie was based of a TV show. Never heard of Wizards and Warriors though.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I voted for Tyrion.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sometimes when I review, I can get by with watching and writing at the same time for the majority of it. Then I only need to stop to get the quotes. When I recap I have to stop a lot, so it takes me about 3-4 hours longer.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It is - they just don't appreciate it the way we do! Pudding sends me into instant fits of laughter! So does pivot - I know you aren't a huge Friends fan but that episode was by far my favorite of the entire run.

    ReplyDelete
  65. That's why I don't recap ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. You lost me with pivot. I watched Friends in a hit or miss kind of way, mostly in reruns.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Supernatural's lengthy years will be indeed hard to beat. But if Dominion lasts a few seasons at least, it has a shot. I spend a lot of time on Twitter. That and if it keeps going the way it has. Nothing has disappointed me yet.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I watch the episode fully once then stick to favorite scenes usually after that. Even when marathoning sometimes. So I might have seen one scene 20 times and another once in 5 years. lol

    ReplyDelete
  69. I tweet Dominion on Twitter and quickly write down my thoughts on paper and tweet during commercials. Then I watch on DVR again anything I missed while being distracted.

    ReplyDelete
  70. When i do a true marathon and not just watch a couple of episodes, I do watch it all. Occasionally I give myself leave to skip a particularly heinous episode altogether but generally not and if i start an episode I watch the whole thing. Now that doesn't mean that I won't play free cell on my tablet sometimes during a less stellar episode, but it is on in a true marathon.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I do hope more people follow your lead...

    ReplyDelete
  72. It depends on the show for me. I did do a true marathon this summer for a show called Wildfire, but that was mostly cause I couldn't remember much from the show. Hadn't seen it in years.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ahhh, wasn't going to vote today but voted for Jane as I really dislike Bones. Doubt he will need my vote but there it is. I love both Felicity and Dean but I abstained from voting as I really couldn't decide between the two due to lack luster writing for both of them last season.

Today's Topic: I have watched a lot of TV in my day - I remember watching all kinds of shows with my parent while growing up: Soap, Benson, Different Strokes, Fact of Life, Dukes of Hazzard, Cheers, Adam's Family, The Munsters, Hogan's Heroes, Love Boat, Gilligan's Island, Beverly Hillbillies, McGuyver, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, A-Team...I could go on and on but I digress...

My first adult TV obsession was Stargate SG-1. Twitter and Tumblr didn't exist when that premiered but had it, I'm sure I would've found my way to internet fandoms a lot sooner. Like many here, it was my Supernatural obsession that lead me to SpoilerTV and after seeing how nice everyone is here, I finally decided to create an account and start commenting (took me almost five years but who's counting, right?). I've had more fun chatting with people in the last 3-4 months than I ever thought I would. Most of my "real life" friends either don't watch the same shows I do or have become a crazy shipper and I can't talk to them about it anymore. While a TV show itself may not have completely changed my view on something, speaking to other fans and/or reading comments has certainly broadened my horizons and brought even more enjoyment to shows I already love.

TV has definitely changed me All my TV watching and some of the features on STV has actually gotten me thinking of doing my own blog. This is something I would NEVER have even considered much less looked into. I'm much more active on Twitter now than I ever was - don't miss the drama of FB at all! I have always loved archery - it's been on my bucket list for almost a decade - and Arrow has rekindled my desire to learn. TV has added to my vocabulary - for better or worse. Words like TAHITI, pudding and pivot will forever have different meanings to me. I tend to use words/phrases that are commonly used in my favorite shows without realizing it - at least until a co-worker looks at me like I'm daft. TV has been directly responsible for broadening my taste in music. There are so many bands that I never would've given a try if it had been because their music was featured in a show (Imagine Dragons and Digital Dagger immediately come to mind). TV has changed me in other ways too...when the lights flicker, I instantly calculate how fast I can get to the salt, I stopped posting my whereabouts on social media because of an episode of Criminal Minds and my parents are convinced that if there was ever a zombie apocalypse, I would be the sole survivor from our family. Oh, and I have lost count of the number of show inspired T-shirts I own!

Overall, I watched a lot of TV as a kid but in my 20's and early 30's I was busy with other things. Now that I am closer to 40 than 30, most of my "real life" friends have moved away, gotten married or had kids and no longer have the time to do things. Fortunately, that's not a problem for the new friends I making thru a renewed interest in TV.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Since Dominion, I'm torn on laughing at the word pudding or just blinking fast. Supernatural and Dominion pudding has 2 very different meanings.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ahhh, if you ever catch an episode where they are moving a couch, I promise it is worth the watch for that scene alone :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was a lurker on SpoilerTV for a couple years myself.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Voted, Vincent, Felicity, Brennan, Kate off to the races!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Glad I'm not the only one!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Dahne, just wanted to
Let you know, as the polling winds down how much I've enjoyed coming to spoiler tv day for my, doses of awesome conversations, you've helped me with my boredom, as I'm waiting for my shows to come back, in addition it's gotten me to want to try two
New shows, Teen Wolf & Sleepy
Hollow, just on feedback from this site, Thanks again we're almost there!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I will look for it when reruns are on.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks for the kind words. It's been a privilege discussing with you guys. I have had a blast. I love that this contest has made you want to try two of my favorite shows. I always find a show or two to watch through these contests too. I actually bought Bates Motel because it was on sale the other day and I heard so many good things about the acting here.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I have Wildfire on DVD but I haven't had time to watch it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Isn't it great to find other people who share your TV passion? That's my favorite thing about SpoilerTV. Looking over your childhood shows, mine are very much the same. I guess back then there weren't as many choices so a lot of people watched the same thing and when you talked about a show, most other people had seen it too. I am really glad that you joined SpoilerTV and are enjoying Twitter as well. I do hope you start a blog. It's a great way to get your thoughts down. Plus if you ever to decide to write for SpoilerTV, it's good practice.

I have found people looking at me crazy when i accidentally use a favorite phrase from a show in my real life. If they get it, I know I have a new friend. Money wise, music is the biggest way TV has influenced me too. I immediately checked out Imagine Dragons the first time I heard Radioactive on a show and ended up downloading most of their stuff. You can imagine the look my kiddo gave me when she started talking about the band and I was able to intelligently discuss them with her. I ended up getting her concert tickets for Christmas, which she promptly declared the best gift ever. Score one for me, all thanks to TV! Now when it comes to the zombie apocalypse, all I can say is that TV has convinced me that I want to be on the first line to die in any apocalypse. A world without internet, indoor plumbing, and air conditioning. Yeah I saw Revolution - no thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  84. 1- Dean (the best character by far)
    2- Beckett
    3-Tyrion
    4-Bones

    ReplyDelete
  85. I didn't vote for anyone today even though I've voted for both Dean & Felicity in previous polls. There are no shows left that I watch and Regina was my last favourite in the competition so I think I'll just be part of the discussions from now on :)

Sorry the post is like mega long :/

Today's TV Topic: I don't think TV has ever changed my view on something or made me aware of anything. TV is what got me into music though. I never seemed to like the usual music people like but I found I loved all the instrumental music in shows and movies. Stargate Universe has one of my favourite OSTs (Original Soundtrack), other favourites are Battlestar Galactica, Caprica & Defiance, all 3 are by Bear McReary who is my favourite TV composer. Teen Wolf has also introduced me to a few songs that I now like. I liked the music in Penny Dreadful too.

Stargate was the first TV show I ever got into, I was 3 when it started but my mom watched it, that's how I got into it. Social media barely existed back then, plus I was a bit young so I wasn't part of it. It wasn't until Stargate Universe that I went online to read about the show and keep up to date about it, I discovered ratings when the show was in danger of cancellation. When it was cancelled I finally started getting into other shows, both old & new, I eventually found TVBTN to keep up with ratings & then I found SpoilerTV from people's comments over there and I love the discussions on both sites. Teen Wolf is what got me onto social media, I already had accounts but wasn't active, I'm on Twitter everyday now about various shows but mainly Teen Wolf.

I'd love to get merch for a lot of shows but literally none of my offline friends watch any shows I watch. They watch Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead simply because they are popular. They watch a lot of reality TV too which absolutely cannot stand! They'd find it a bit weird if I had TV show merch too, even my family would too so I just don't bother :/

  86. Mega Long is great! One of the reasons why i wanted to do the TV Talk Topic is that once I was done actually caring about the voting, which will probably be after this round, I would still have a reason to participate. Glad that is working for you too.

I have gotten some instrumental music but usually it comes from fanvids more than the shows themselves. I cannot beleive you remember TV from when you were 3 though. That's impressive. I too love TVbtN, but it is a far different crowd than what you find at SpoilerTV. I used to comment a lot at TVbtN but the flame wars kill me. I still go there for ratings and sometimes read the comnets, especially since they switched over to Disqus and everything's easier now.

    ReplyDelete
  87. It's been so much fun discussing my favorite shows with like minded people - especially since I lack them in "real life". I think the reason it took so long for me to finally start commenting on STV is because I have seen other sites where it quickly descends into anger and vitriol - I guess I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop on this site!

I'm not technically challenged but it takes me a bit to get used to a new program so the idea of blogging is still a bit daunting. I'll have more time this fall to play with it and figure out which platform I like best. I guess I never thought of writing for STV as an option!

My favorite instance of making a new friend because of a common TV interest was a co-worker who had just found SPN. I really didn't know her that well as she was in a different department but she sat near enough to me that I could hear most of her conversations if I really tried (cube farming at it's finest). One day the lights started flickering and she yelled "Get the salt!" - to which I responded, "Son of a bitch". Been friends ever since :-)

Money wise - DVD purchases account for most of it. Even though I can stream most shows online, I spend a lot of time working from home, on my computer, where I just so happen to also watch all of my TV. With DVD's, I can have a show playing on the portable DVD player while I work...of course this only works if I've seen the episodes many times as new episodes require my full attention and I will get nothing done!

    ReplyDelete
  88. SpoilerTV is really an oasis of a TV website. It is hard to find places where people are generally respectful to each other. As far as writing for STV goes, Andy is going to post a list of shows that need reviewers in a few weeks, mostly new shows. If you are interested in one, go for it.

I love this story about your co-worker. I instantly know if anyone is a Supernatural fan when the lights flicker or a cool car goes by. The head swingers who give a little nod when a car from the 60's or 70's go by are my kind of fans. I even have a mini Impala on my desk at work. When I taught middle school, it was a great talking piece. Now that I'm in elementary, I just say it's a 67 Impala, the coolest car in the world.

I too have a lot of TV DVDs. I recently had to get a new TV because my old one decided picture was optional. Since I got a different size, I had my dad make me an entertainment center specifically desgined for my TV and other DVDs. It looks awesome. Love my dad. Sadly, it is mostly filled up already.

  89. My head turns at any sports car/classic car I think has a nice shape. That is another thing Supernatural (and Fast and Furious/Transformers) has given me. Appreciation of nice looking cars. Though I was always a fan of Mustangs from a young age, my car love has expanded.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Vincent Keller all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Did you watch it when it was on TV?

    ReplyDelete
  92. I was a hit at my middle school when I expanded our car book collection. I also won a bet with my kiddo when I pointed out he was dead wrong on a car we passed. It was great!

    ReplyDelete
  93. No, I had heard of it and caught some ads for it, btu I was never itnerested until Genevieve was on SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I loved the show but mostly for the horses. And Junior. I'll be curious what you'll think of it.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am not getting to it anytime soon. It's in the upper bottom tier behind about 150 other shows. Right now I have a Teen Wolf recap to write though before I can do anything.

  96. lol Wasn't expecting you to watch soon.

  97. Bradley Lalonde28 July 2014 at 04:22

So, I was always a huge TV show fan growing up, but only like 7/8 years ago did it become really fun. I started the first season of 24 on DVD from Blockbuster (YES, that brings us back a ways huh) with my father. We watched the entire first disc in one day and had to go back the next day to get the second and third discs. Before I knew it, we just bought the first three seasons because we couldn't stop watching. Since then, I've dragged over 25 people into watching the show just so I could see them struggle to stop watching it :) Similarly, I discovered that my parents are okay with watching weird shows, so I convinced my sister and them to watch Supernatural with me (Season 4 premiere - I remember how funny it was at the beginning of the episode when Dean had the mark on his shoulders and I told them all that "Dean was touched by an angel" as a joke). I remember going to school the next day and a huge group of people were gathered talking about Supernatural's premiere. I was shocked, and excited. Wasn't long afterwards that I found this site and have been coming ever since. TV shows are amazing because you get to live extraordinary lives with these wonderful characters, and then you get to relive it in real life while talking to friends (or total enemies... that's right you Chloe Season Three haters. you'll choke on your words come season 4). Sorry for ranting! Have a good one everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Temperance, Felicity (I had to literally flip a coin), Tyrion, Kate

    ReplyDelete
  99. Huh, never knew that Andy did that - I thought he only had established writers! I'd be interested but I don't know that I would be any good at it right now. Maybe next year after I have a season of blogging and commenting under my belt :-)

I love old cars but my appreciation of them predates SPN. My uncle restored old cars so I went to car shows a lot when I was younger. My mom rode a motorcycle so it's not just old cars that I love! I'm not good with pinpointing years and such but I do have a fondness for old style cars and motorcycles so when I started watching SPN, "Baby" has always been like another character for me.

LOL - sounds like your TV and my computer were in cahoots! Right now my DVD's are battling for space on the shelves with all the books. I'm going to have to get a bigger place to live just to house all of it!

  100. Vincent. ..always takes my vote

    ReplyDelete
  101. I predict the final round will be Dean and Beckett

    ReplyDelete
  102. SHIELDNCISArrowfan28 July 2014 at 07:04

unlikely Vincent Keller will win the left side with Beckett win the right and Vincent winning the whole thing.....

    ReplyDelete
  103. Not possible because Vincent and Beckett are both on the right side. They will likely meet in the semifinals.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Jane vs. Vincent is my bet.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I started reading your post convinced that I would have nothing to add. As I was reading I realized...I do. I got into fandom because of Forever Knight (back when social media involved mailing lists. Like spoilerTV the moderator of that list was hard core about keeping things friendly.) When I moved to California with the goal of getting a job writing for television the books and seminar gurus said to write a feature as the way in. I worked on that feature for a really long time. Because of the introduction to fan fiction I'd received on forkni-l I wrote a spec episode of Forever Knight. My gosh it was so much more natural a thing for me to do. It won the Carl Sautter competition that year...that was the impetus that got me to move to Los Angeles. In addition to all of that the community of Forever Knight were a lot of historians. Their discussions about the history of the world had a real affect on how I look at the social history of this country. Hmmm, I met my best friends in the world through forkni-l too.

I don't know, maybe that's more about how fandom has changed my life than television.

    ReplyDelete
  106. :-D For me it's Sacramento. Years ago there were a couple of characters on One Life to Live who used Sacramento as a code word when one of them was in trouble. This was decades ago (one of the actors went on to play the male lead on Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.) and I still mock-yell Sacramento when ever I hear that word. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Your description of this incident netted a belly laugh. bwahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  108. My Mother explains it by saying "That's my creative child."

    ReplyDelete
  109. Today's topic about TV changing my life in anyway, personally music has changed it more but I have meet a lot of really cool people online and off because of our mutual love of certain shows. I also find TV has helped me occasionally get through some rough patches, sometimes when you are having a really shitty time of it losing yourself in a TV series can be very comforting.

Votes for today; Tyrion and Chandler

    ReplyDelete
  110. I can't believe (well I can) that Tyrion is losing to Vincent, he's a much better written and acted character.

    ReplyDelete
  111. If you haven't you should really check out Game of Thrones.

    ReplyDelete
  112. It's kinda messed that Tyrion is an underdog, given GoT's popularity, Tyrion's popularity and how if it weren't for the reach of the BatB fandom he'd win easily.

    ReplyDelete
  113. That's Funky Town for Supernatural. I remember on some SPN websites, if the fandom was starting to really bug us we'd work Funky Town in the conversation and that was our signal to escape to the private pages of our website to rant and vetch until we were ready to come back to Spoiler or wherever we ended up.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I remember listservs for fandom. What a pain! That's really cool that you received an award for your writing. For me, fandom and TV are pretty much two sides of the same coin, since I don't belong in any non-TV fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  115. SHIELDNCISArrowfan28 July 2014 at 09:25

as mention before.....lots of BATB fans here......oh well

    ReplyDelete
  116. We avoid sour grapes here. Whoever wins, who cares? Game of Thrones may be popular on this site but it is still on a premium cable station which means that fewer people have access to it and some people don't like it if they have seen it. BatB has a large, active internet base and if they are the most organized at getting the word out, they deserve to win. However for the sake of argument, there are at least 4 other characters that Tyrion would be a major underdog against still in the contest. He simply has not gotten the votes here so far that would make him the winner. He is averaging 544 votes per round, making him second to lowest of all characters still in the contest. So no, he would not win easily even if he were not against BatB.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I checked out the pilot. Game of Thrones is not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I think it's Dean and Vincent. Based on the number of votes in previous rounds they're the most popular and have the biggest fan bases here. My poor Jane, thought he'd do much better votes-wise. Doesn't stand a chance against Dean but I hope he at least makes it to the semi-finals.

    ReplyDelete
  119. My love actually started when my family went to Michigan for vacation and my uncle had a beautiful Mustang convertible he drove us around in. It became my dream car for years until a certain 67 Impala knocked it out. I'm partial to the Charger as well.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Blockbuster was my first experience with binge watching. I was always impatient to get there because it felt like forever until I could get the next DVD and if someone in my house wanted to watch at a time I wasn't there, I was not going to wait for them. Netflix then took over as my major go-to marathon site.

"TV shows are amazing because you get to live extraordinary lives with these wonderful characters, and then you get to relive it in real life while talking to friends"

What an excellent way to put it. I love he escape of TV and the challenge of it in some cases. To find others you can really discuss it with makes everything even better. Oh and please rant away as much as you want. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  121. Better is a matter of opinion. There are many people who watch both and prefer Vincent. I actually don't watch either of them but I know good people on both sides and you like what you like.

    ReplyDelete
  122. And we are happy to have them. Everyone is welcome here.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I didn't even think about how TV really can help you in trying times. Sometimes by getting your mind off your troubles, sometimes by helping you realize that you are not alone, and even rare times when it inspires you to keep going or helps you find an answer. Thanks for bringing this aspect up.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I've found it really helps and sometimes when I'm worrying about a certain issue and can't shut my mind off I will put on a comedy show just playing in the background but it helps a lot. Also I find crying very therapeutic and well TV certainly makes me cry a whole lot!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Bear McCreary is amazing his soundtracks mean a lot to me especially the BSG ones.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Give it time. It slow burns.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I do hate gratuitous nudity, cursing, and violence which is why it is not for me. Incest is always a dealbreaker as well.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ah. Shame it is excellent in terms of writing, characters, action and plot.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I rarely cry in TV (Becoming 2 always gets me though) but I am a big fan of laughing my worries away even temporarily and sometimes I will put on a favorite episode on a bad day and use it like comfort food and my favorite ratty sweater. What is and What Should Never Be has gotten me through a lot of rough days when I just hate the human race.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Well people obviously care but okay. (sigh)- Nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Can't really decide between Jane and Bones or Dean and Felicity. I picked Vincent and Beckett although I also like both Tyrion and Chandler. I guess I watch too much TV as I know all the remaining characters left in the contest.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Then it's very odd you have such a strong opinion that Tyrion is a much better written and acted character. How do you know if you're not really watching? I guess it's just an assumption then, probably bc GoT is the bigger and high rated show. And that's not right to me. Btw, I watch both shows and like both of the characters but Vincent will always be my first choice. Jay Ryan is a great actor too and he portrayed a whole different Vincent in S2. I feel sometimes he doesn't get enough credit for it, maybe because he's on a CW show?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Thank you Dahne, I'm one of them. Watch both shows and like both characters. Of course GoT has the advantage of being a much bigger show with a high budget. But I will always prefer Vincent. We saw V 1.0 in S1, he was a changed man at the start of S2 bc what they did to him, V 2.0 and then his character evolved throughout the rest of S2 to the 'perfect' combination of the two and we got Vincent 3.0! And kudos to Jay Ryan for portraying all these different sides of him.

    ReplyDelete
  134. 1. Pass
    2. Felicity
    3. Tyrion
    4. Chandler

    ReplyDelete
  135. Lots of "lesser of two evils" for me.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Yep, me too, so basicly we are voting for the loosers. Man, would I love to see Tyrion beat Vincent.

    ReplyDelete
  137. could you tell me if you can vote only once in the character cup??

    ReplyDelete
  138. Jane, Felicity, Tyrion, Chandler! Please people show a little more love for Tyrion and VOTE for him! :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. This site has it's favorites, which doesn't necessarily match the general population. Jack Bauer and Ben Linus went out in the 1st round, and Daryl Dixon got smoked in the 2nd. I go into these contests expecting BatB, The Mentalist, and Castle, to be in the final 4. For me, a win is to get a few, of my favorites into the last 8. And maybe sneak one into the final 4.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I only remembered bits of it from back then, when I re-watched it years later a lot of it came back to me. I 've gotten a few songs from crack vids but I don't really watch fan vids that much. Yh, TVBTN is very different, I only comment about ratings over there, discussing if a show will be renewed or cancelled, I discuss pretty much everything TV related here :) If TV.com used Disqus i'd comment a lot over there too.

    ReplyDelete
  141. There's a bit of his BSG stuff in every show he works on :) I love hearing it!

    ReplyDelete
  142. I can believe it, though I also think it's totally senseless. But, you know, we are aware there are lots of BatB fans in here, so it was expected.

    ReplyDelete
  143. This is true and maybe why I started loving fantasy TV so young. My childhood was not the best and watching Nancy Drew or reading ND books was my comfort blanket. I could either escape with it on TV or hide in a nice, quiet place and escape with the book. This was a good observation. It's who I still shut the world out on crap days and escape with SPN and NCIS reruns.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I think you misunderstood. Graydon just said " YOU haven't watched GoT" to Dahne.
I don't watched BATB but I can understand your point of view, your love for this show and for Vincent.

However I do love Tyrion and I really think there's no other character like him, as a human being and as a dwarf, so well written and acted on TV nowadays.
On the contrary in my opinion there's a lot of supernatural creatures of all kinds or human beings with fantastic powers on screen.
So I do hope a lot more people will vote for Tyrion and I do think he deserves to win against Vincent. But I will be the first to congratulate the BATB fandom if Jay Ryan's character won. :)

    ReplyDelete
  145. You can vote once in each of the four pairs that are shown. Hope that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I knew anyone up against batb would go down in flames but i didn't think SPN and Arrow would be this close. Seems SPN is getting old, time for new blood i guess..

    ReplyDelete
  147. but only once for each pair??

    ReplyDelete
  148. A Lannister Always Spays Their Pets! XD Just Tyrion for me this round!

    How TV Has Changed Me:

I can't say that TV completely changed my viewpoint, as much as I finally was able to see shows that expressed my viewpoint in being more philosophical, empirical, and homing in an subjective reality, in showing how complicated life could be. LOST however did change how I view TV. It gave me a desire to keep learning, keep comparing, and to pay attention to ideas that some shows drop, allude, or reference a lot more. It makes everything much more enjoyable, because that's when one can begin to the effort that is being put into it.

    ReplyDelete
  149. then you must have been watching a different #BATB then the rest of us Beasties have been watching.. Think maybe you were watching through rose colored glasses and weren't really watching the series with one of the best casts ever. Sorry not being sarcastic just wondering what it was that made you think that BATB wasn't good??

    ReplyDelete
  150. Love the Tyrion character, but have to go with Vincent Keller. That said, not sure anyone stands a chance against the SPN fandom, when all is said and done.
Much as I love The Mentalist, I don't feel as though the Patrick Jane character has evolved as much as it should have over such a long run. Also, I don't like it when the writers take a very serious character with some definite quirkiness, and make him just a little too out there, as far as doing absolutely outrageous, unbelievable things. Still gets my vote though...

    ReplyDelete
  151. Yes,Only Once. If you try voting more than once it will not accept the vote.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Tv is to me like comfort food, I try not to have to much but sometimes, I just can't help myself. I'm weak ok:( tv offers that mindless escape, sometimes it can be thought provoking. A few days ago I had meant to ask you Dahne what is your take on Trubel on Grimm. Do you think she's gonna advance the plot or hinder it, making them prolong Nick being powerless, to play up the first female Grimm longer than nessasary with Nick depending totattly on her?

    ReplyDelete
  153. Rabia Salvatore28 July 2014 at 14:45

Bones, Dean, Vincent, Kate. Chandler I only voted if I didn't know the other character because I haven't seen that much of Friends (which I am going to change) and Dean over Felicity, not a difficult decision.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Sorry Blue star I meant to reply to Dahne:-)

    ReplyDelete
  155. this is one of the surprises of this round for me. How close SPN and Arrow are right now.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Thank you for pointing this out to me. I totally misread this, I'm so sorry Graydon. I edited my reply.
I get your point, like I said in another reply, I watch both shows and like both characters. I watch a lot of shows but for some reason I'm totally hooked on BatB (for the first time in my life) so I will always go for Vincent. I get your point there are a lot of creatures/humans with powers on TV but I think Vincent is more than that, esp. compared to others IMO. And to me it's also the way Jay Ryan is portraying him. He's a very talented actor with great comedic timing too. But it's a tough competition and that's great. Thx for your kind words, we don't get that too often as BatB fandom :-)

    ReplyDelete
  157. If you want an in depth conversation, please email at freda.ander@gmail.com. But I honestly gave it a try. To me, this series takes a potentially very strong female character and defines her with only a toxic relationship. This is not a strong female character - this is a very weak character. I felt like over 90% of her on screen time revolved around Vincent. On top of that, from the few clips I have seen of Smallville - the actress doesn't act any differently. The actor doesn't bring any depth to the overused, stock type broody male hero who we have seen in just about any teen paranormal romance story since Twilight. I haven't seen any other of Jay Ryan's work - so maybe he is a good actor, but I wasn't impressed at all by his performance here.

  158. Some of these polls are real close , i dont know who will make the next round. With over 6 hours to go any of these could go either way (except poll 4 which looks certain to be beckett winning)

    ReplyDelete
  159. Do not want to get in an argument over this but I feel you haven’t really
watched the show enough to have an opinion on the series. They have a great
following and that is because they are good actors.. Now I am an old lady and I
have watched a lot of series and I have not ever been so caught up in a series
as much as I am in this one. That is because of the actors the writers and the
whole crew.. . It is so nice to sit and watch something that is romantic as
well as dramatic and comical and keeps you in suspense. But then again we all
have our favourites. Just don’t like to have anyone tear down any show whether
they are my favourites or not. Alright to list your favourites but no need to
tear the others down . Sorry but we are all different and because of that our
taste in TV or movies will always be different. So like I said don’t want to
get in an argument just don’t feel it is right for us to judge what others like
by what our preferences are.. Just saying. Sorry if I have offended you just
wanted to get my point across. By the way I tried to email to that address and it came back undeliverable.

  160. Dean and Chandler.

    TV Topic:

There was time when i had a very slow internet, no one was able motivate me to learn english language (the way teachers was teaching wasn't for me) and tv shows which i watched on Tv didn't make me seek news about them, interact with fandom. And then finally get faster internet, somehow came across to first season of Supernatural in my native language. After watching few episodes (i think it was 3 episodes) i did quick search and find out that channel planning re-air 1st season and when they air season 2 it was unclear. In USA season 5 was already started. After that quick search i knew it, that i can't wait that long, because i need watch all existing seasons, episodes ASAP. So i decide to learn at least understand english. And did that by watching a lot crime procedurals ( by doing that came across Fringe, which became another tv show that need watch all episodes ASAP). When i was back to watch Supernatural and Fringe for me it taked more than 1 hour to watch episode, but tried do it as fast as i can because i wanted to read interviews with cast, news, what other fans thinked (later on some point start interact)... When started search for Supernatural and Fringe news/spoirlers i discover SpoilerTv, at first i was just lurking, later if write some comment usually 1-2 sentences and then came Supernatural contests (few was already happened) where i started feel more comfortable writing more than 1-2 sentences and expressing my thoughts in english (thanks Dahne, for doing these contests).
Supernatural made me to accept that i don't like most of today's music and helped realised that classic rock is music which makes my soul fly and introduce some bands whom i never hear on local radios.
Some tv show have impact to my vocabulary and sometimes in not good way. Because of tv shows i started word fandom associate only with tv shows fans even when i belong to one the classic rock band fandom...

    ReplyDelete
  161. True but having watched both shows I immensely prefer GoT. Not to diminish your opinion, it's just well my opinion I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I like to get lost in TV. It helps I get really invested in characters. I get attached so easily. So it does make it hard to narrow done/cut shows when i have to.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I love the instrumental music from Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, The Mentalist, and a few other shows. I would love it if Dominion released instrumental music cause I love the music on it. I end up humming it sometimes.

I listen more to instrumental music in movies though.

But I don't listen to instrumental like I do more mainstream music (rock, alternative, country). Far from it.

  167. Felicity Smoack28 July 2014 at 18:31

Dean vs Felicity???????? Why????? OMG :((((((

    ReplyDelete
  168. I am not offended at all. I hope I didn't offend you. I watched until some point in season 2. I definitely gave it a shot. I don't find the series romantic - I found it toxic and it outright disgusted me. I realize you are entitled to your own favorites, just as I am. When I was explaining my opinion, I used the word "thought" to show it is my opinion. I wasn't tearing down your show for the sake of tearing down your show. I was merely expressing my opinion - even though it is a negative one. Expressing a negative opinion is just important as expressing a positive one. "just don't feel it is right for us to judge what others like by what our preferences are.." -- Isn't that the point of any of these online competitions?

While I don't like the BATB show at all - I am always impressed with its fans. It is the only reason I tried the show out.

That is definitely my email. Did you spell it right? Add the period?

    ReplyDelete
  169. I love the music in Dominion too, the theme music and the music that played when Bixby died are my favourites. I listen to more music from games rather than TV or movies.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I'm right there with you, sometimes I do get to invested in the characters or the show, but tv often , provide therapy, when I'm looking for that escape, into fantasy, Sci-Fi, from sometimes day 2 day humdrum, I remember when the fans were supporting Chuck the tv show I lost count of all the subway sandwiches I ate, yes sometimes it can become expensive to enjoy a show:-)

    ReplyDelete
  171. I just don't understand why it is necessary to state the fact that you don't like a show. Isn't that what voting is all about?? Showing people who you like and dislike by the way you vote.. But that is all I will say on this subject.. Thanks for the debate.. Take care.

    ReplyDelete
  172. There's 4 hours left to go. I hope he makes it.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I like those too. Off the top of my head I also liked the music playing during the scenes where:

Episode 3: Michael talks to Alex in the farm house, Alex runs over to Michael's side when he's injured

Episode 4: Becca is by Michael's bedside/Michael healed, the love scene

Episode 5: Michael practices with sword, Becca breaks up with Michael, Claire says Alex needs to figure things out/Michael flies in

Episode 6: Claire and her mother hug

  174. Not angry, just worried that the end of the contest is going to become like all the previous contests. We have worked hard to make this contest light and fun and nothing serious at all. The problem with many contests here is that they devolve into slight fandom wars and more often dissertations on how unfair internet polls are because so and so or such and such is obviously better than whoever the competition is that won. That is no fun for anyone and quite honestly, although I have no liking for BatB, their fandom does seem to get attacked a lot on STV, even though this site is basically the most neutral and pleasant place to talk TV on the internet. This is why I reposted the rules and asked everyone to play nice when Vincent was first in the polls. It is why tonight when I post the next round I am going to revisit the rules and ask everyone to play nice again. This contest has been going far too well to let the ending spoil it. It's hard when people's favorites get pushed out by shows they don't think are worthy, but it is far more pleasant for everyone when people remember it is a silly little internet contest with zero influence on anything. It's just a way to pass the time until hellatus is over.

  175. I like Trubel a lot. I think she has revitalized a show that was getting stale. Given Grimm's past track record, I don't think Nick will remain powerless for long. After all he only had ZombieNick issues for 3 episodes and then they dropped it. I however wouldn't mind if they allowed Nick to stay powerless for a little while longer. Really all he's lost is his ability to see Wesen, which Trubel can point out. He doesn't seem to have any special strength by being a Grimm and his super hearing comes and goes anyway.

Trubel would allow him to take on a mentor role, while at the same time deal with what being a Grimm means to him. That is a more powerful character arc than see Grimm, kill it in my opinion. It might make Nick interesting again, and that's vital for the lead of a show.

  176. Chuck's Subway campaign was what I was thinking of when talking about buying because of a company advertising on show. It's probably the most famous fandom advertising-driven campaign.

  177. I often wish that Game of Thrones was on a basic cable channel. I like the idea of it but I don't like how it is presented.

  178. I think all sites should use Disqus even if it is sometimes hard to load and occasionally goes spastic. It is just so much easier to follow different conversations than most other platforms.

  179. For me the swearing, gore (in particular) and even the sexposition (but not that much, I don't care for sex scenes very much) enhances the brutal world of Westeros and Essos, and reflects the series themes of the world being cold, cruel and only those fit in mind or body can survive. Lke the incest is very essential to the show (much less plot wise than incest which if you've seen the first episode is of extreme importance to the series arc, and it's not like the show endorses incest, if anything it constantly demonstrates its downside with Aerys II). It is a shame because it really is terrific, and I don't doubt that you'd enjoy it.

  180. I think this comment is unnecessary and exactly the kind of thing we don't want in this contest. You may think it is "totally senseless" that Vincent is winning but there are a lot of people who deeply care for the character and prefer him over characters you obviously think are better. Who the best character is falls under opinion and everyone's vary. Instead of adding to negativity on what should be jsut a silly little internet poll, your time is better used to explain why you love Tyrion as a character.

  181. nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys helped me through some bad school days. It was fun to escape into a world where I could help solve the clues and forget about the rest of the world.

  182. This is quickly devolving into the negativity that seems to come with all of these internet polls, especially towards the end. Perhaps instead you can talk about all the things you like about Tyrion.

  183. I think it is awesome that so many characters you like are still in the contest.

  184. with now only 100 points between them , you never know.

  185. The internet and general population do not often match and I am okay with that. It's just a silly little internet poll that means nothing. The real purpose is to have great, positive conversations about TV to pass hellatus away.

  186. Well, I can explain why I think Tyrion is a better character, but that was not my point. I was merely trying to remember Graydon this is a FAVORITE character cup, not a BEST character cup, so the votes are not cast based on what is the best written of the participants (and that is clearly Tyrion, which is my reason for saying I find the results to be senseless), but rather on what is people's favorite. And it is a fact Vincent is winning mostly because SpoilerTV has a massive BatB fanbase (which, btw, is perfectly and entirely valid), not because people are making calculated decisions about which one of the characters is better.

I think the point is exactly that each one has their own preference, and preferences are not always based on anything but likes and dislikes. I could write an essay on why Tyrion is infinitely more complex, interesting, brings more to TV in general, to the show he's a part of, aside from being played masterfully by Dinklage, but I still believe that would be beside the point in this particular case. I'm fairly sure none of those who voted (again, people who casted their votes on totally valid grounds) would be willing to change their minds just because of mine of anyone else's observations, as accurate as they might be.

  187. Me too but in the end the discussion is far more interesting than any poll will ever be.

  188. I do like your take on her, character when she first arrived, I was happy yeah, Nick has a teenager he can mentor, she sure didn't have a clue as to who or what she is, I agree she did bring freshness to the show, I was just concerned that would let it drag on to long without him being able to see Wesen, you know they have a tendency to let stuff, drag to..... Long, I like Trubel , I love Rennard, Adalind not so much, I just wish she'd go by by, this time Trubel will make her go away for good!!

  189. Supernatural has made some questionable moves over the years and Felicity is probably the most beloved character on Arrow. I'm not surprised by how close it is but I like it. Makes the poll far more interesting.

  190. I love how in-depth you go with TV. I don't always agree or see the same connections you do, but it is always an interesting read.

  191. Supernatural is not going to win this contest, even if it was really popular on this site a few years ago. All things come full circle, which is a good thing. I take it you are talking about how far Jane went about Red John when you are talking about outrageous, unbelievable things?

  192. I am so glad this contest helped you decide to see more friends. That was one of the goals - to help people find other shows they may enjoy to help fill hellatus.

    ReplyDelete
  193. They are definitely close and that is fun. It does mean that I won't be able to get things ready for the next round early though. :-P Expect a slight delay tonight.

  194. Because that's where the nomination rankings put them. Sorry.

  195. Thanks so much for sharing your story. I think it is fabulous that TV has helped you learn English and that you were motivated so much. You are doing a great job communicating and I loved having your opinions on the Supernatural polls as well. So glad you came to SpoilerTV and that you now feel comfortable sharing your thoughts. Supernatural did a lot for me music-wise as well. It plays the music of my youth, which I had largely forgotten before SPN aired. Criminal Minds seems to be doing a better job at getting people to be aware of internet safety than the classes I teach do. To bad I can't just show Criminal Minds in my class, but those kids would be scarred for life.
