  3. This was hard. I've loved every season, but S6 was one of the absolute best along with 1 and 3 IMO. In the end I picked my top 5 and voted for them all: Red John, Blue Bird, Fire and Brimstone, My Blue Heaven and Violets.

Honourable mentions to all the other RJ eps in that great final arc and some of the other great 2.0 stuff like White as the Driven Snow, Silver Wings of Time etc.

  5. Season 6 was a great season for The Mentalist but if Blue Birds is leading as favorite episode that says a lot about TM fans. While shippers got what they wanted out of this ep, the kiss, that's really all there was to it. Sure, Jane's plan to solve the murder was cute but not one of his best. To me, what this poll shows is the reason that some fans watch the show is for the Jisbon aspect of the show. If they hadn't kissed in the end and Lisbon stayed on the plane and went to DC, would it still be your favorite episode? I believe most shippers watch only for Jisbon and don't really care about much else. A game changing episode like Fire and Brimstone or a pivotal episode like Red John was much more important and fun to watch than something we knew was coming. So much more was revealed in F&B, bad guys were good guys, good guys were bad guys and something Jane was seeking for years was reduced down to 3 possibilities. For some the kiss was cute, fun but really it was a bit trite and the Pike nonsense that led up to was silly and out of character for both Jane and Lisbon. Except for Simon Baker's performance (he was handed lemons and made champagne!), Blue Birds was a means to an end, a way of either ending or continuing the series. The writers hands were tied and that's what they came up with without knowing the show fate. If you are a serious fan of the show, and you think Blue Birds was the best ep of the season, you should try to go back and watch the whole series again from a different perspective and on a deeper level.

  6. Just FYI, it's a poll about people's favorite episode, not the one they think is the best. And then again, for some it /is/ the best episode of the season. So what? We all enjoy different things and watch for different reasons. If you liked the mythology episodes better that's great, but you should respect that some other people were more invested in episodes that delved into the emotional aspects of the show, and Blue Bird was one of those. That doesn't mean that they didn't enjoy the RJ episodes too.
And please can we not bring the "if you're a serious/real fan" argument into this again? We're all serious fans here.

  7. I know what the poll is about. I'm sure that if it were a poll for "best episode of season 6" the result would be the same or similar. Is there much difference between best and favorite? Just as you can express your opinion, I can express a difference of opinion with the polls results and give an explanation why I disagree. Isn't that what this forum is for? Or is it just to gush about Blue Birds.
I guess I missed the "if you're a serious/real fan" argument. But I can imagine it was pretty much that if you are a serious fan of the show that you love the show for all aspects and don't just watch it for "Jisbon". I actually feel bad for some of the shippers because all they see is Jisbon. For a show that's so well written and acted with great plots and subplots, twists and turns, all they see is that Jane's hand brushed against Lisbon's hand and OMG, they are in love. Thankfully there are other forums, besides this one sided shipper-filled site, where serious fans can go and discuss other aspects of the show besides the last two minutes of a pretty badly written episode.
