Doctor Who - The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot to get a sequel

20 Jun 2014

Paul McGann has revealed that production is under way on a sequel to Doctor Who fan favourite The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Speaking at the Cambridge Union Society, the Withnail and I actor announced that work had already begun on a follow-up, although – tantalisingly – provided no details of plot, casting or timings.

The 54-year-old actor also told students that the show's producers "missed a trick" by casting Peter Capaldi instead of a first female Time Lord. He named Tilda Swinton and Diana Quick as his favourite choices for the twelfth Doctor, asking the audience to imagine the skill they could bring to the portrayal of "one of the greatest characters ever written."

*sigh* i get the feeling that a female doctor is being pushed at times just for the sake of having a female doctor... i can get on board with anyone as long as it's done right, and for the right reasons. I have a feeling it's being pushed by some for all the wrong reasons though...

  3. It is a sequel to the The Five(ish) Doctors short film that Peter Davison made last year and was shown as part of the 50th Anniversary. It was kind of tongue in cheek as Davison along with Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann all pretended to be upset they weren't included in the Day of the Doctor so try to infiltrate the filming. It is a real treat for the fans, lots of injokes and cameos.

So basically they are going to do another short film like that. Maybe its related to Peter Capaldi becoming the Doctor. Its not like an official spin-off though when Moffat and the BBC heard about the first film they gave Davison money and a proper crew to film it because they thought it was hilarious (and it is!)

  4. I can't wait for this the first film was so much fun, after the high of the Night of the Doctor and then the Day of the Doctor having this goofy film which was a love letter to the show and fans was lovely.

  5. I get it now. Yea I follow many shows, but Doctor Who is always a little harder to make sure you watch all the short films and short clips before a season airs. I must of missed it, will find it and watch later.

  6. Oh yeah there were a lot of things around the time of the 50th, this one was just very silly and fun.

  7. I'm sorry but I think the idea of a female Doctor is freakin' stupid. Changing faces is one thing. Hell even changing races would be a stretch but would be fine, because his sex hasn't changed... but the Doctor has always been male and should remain that way. PC at its absolute worst. I'd rather them have a spin-off about another Time Lord who is always female. But anyway I just did some research and it's never ever been established in canon that a sex change is possible with regeneration and seems to solely exist in the minds of fans.

    Get over it Paul.

  8. In the original series there were two female members of the Doctor's race that appeared in more than one episode, The Rani and Romanadvoratrelundar (known as Romana) both of whom were explicitly referred as a "Time Lady". Romana when she regenerated from her first seen form (Mary Tamm) into her next form (Lalla Ward) she "tried out" several different forms, all of which were female.

Considering that The Five(ish) Doctors has been the only DW episode of the last two to three years that I liked, I'm happy to hear this.

  10. Personally I don't think "this" Doctor should regenerate as a woman, he is male and as such should remain in this vein. If they want a female Doctor then they should bring in another time lady. Since they had Romana, why not another companion from Gallifrey.

  11. How is it "PC at its absolute worst?" I don't know if I've ever heard an allegation of "PC" that has amounted to any more substance than "I don't like this idea, therefore I'm going to allege politics".
