What a great episode. I'll be surprised if the last scene doens't win by alandslide, but there were plenty of other great moment shere. I loved the Varys/Oberyn scene, for instance.

  2. I loved the final scene with Tyrion throwing a monkey wrench into Cersei's plans, but...

I need to show some love for the Small Council scene and the Oberyn/ Varys scene afte!
I love the subtle looks the various actors give as they react to statements from others. Just a true showcase of how to act, but not overact.

Also honorable mention to Jaime and Tywin discussing the verdict and the future of House Lannister!

  3. Whoa, that was intense! Peter Dinklage killed it! His speech is hands down the best scene, I cannot wait until next week!

I haven't read the books but it seems to be Tywin is pulling the major strings. Everything that Cersei does ultimately is co-opted into a larger plan for Tywin. Cersei accused Tyrion strictly because she already hated him and needed to lash out. Tywin on the other hand seems to see the trial as a way to solidify his final hold over the north (destroying the last of the Stark name), rid himself of the child he sees as a burden, and simultaneously get Jamie back under his thumb.

  5. No, you're right. Cersei is a pawn to "King" Tywin on the Westeros chess board. It's a personal thing with me. I can never feel anything but hate for Cersei and no matter what Tywin does I enjoy the scenes because of Charles Dance's performance! XD

    Agreed on Tywin's motivations.
I'm not sure he actually thinks the Tyrion did it, but the trial and verdict can be used as tools to help solidify House Lannister's power in the aftermath of Joff's death.

The scene with Jaime and Tywin was never in the books. In the books Jaime arrived back to King's Landing after Joffrey's death and was still in bad shape physically. He hid in the back of the room during the trial for the most part.

So having Jaime offer to save Tyrion as he did is a departure, but I think it worked well.

Tyrion demands trial by combat. - 100% YES!

I doubt Tywin believes Tyrion killed Joffery. I believe Tywin just taking advantage of a situation that's already beneficial to him. If anything, I don't think he cares who killed Joffery because he believes everyone including himself is better off without Joffery.

Hmm, if that's a departure then it's a very clever one. It does suggest to me how the season will end, or at least how this storyline will end. I'm guessing Tywin doesn't have long to live and Jamie will be his killer.

  8. Tyrion's final outburst was amazing.

  9. Tyrion's outburst was probably the best scene in the entire series to-date, which is saying a hell of a lot of a show that has had so many jaw dropping scenes.

  10. The last scene with Tyrion send them all to hell! GO GET THEM TYRION YOU'RE THE BEST!!

  11. My gawd it has to be the last scene with Tyrion telling his father and everyone in that room he is innocent and what he is guilty of...

  12. The last scene was great, but actually this was a very strong episode as a whole. I liked that we saw less people and it was more focused, especially in the last half.

I gasped a little when Shae came back to testify, because while I felt sure we hadn't seen the last of her, I genuinely hadn't even thought of her being at the trial for some reason!

  14. Sure the Tyrion outburst was great, but my my the Varys-Oberyn scene was pure typical GOT gold.

  15. The Tyrion scene of course, Dinklage brings it again. I loved the Oberyn/Varys scene as well, every episode should be Varys talking to a random character - he can even travel across Westeros to chat to others.

  16. As a big fan of Varys I have to go for the scene between him and Oberyn. The talk of desires was brilliant and I love how you can never really tell what Varys is after.

Ofcourse I am also a big fan of Jaime and Tyrion and their scenes were also fantastic. Jaime´s part in the trials is new (or different from the books), and I like how they did it. I´m still a little mad about the rape scene, so I´m glad they are getting Jaime on the right track.

Poor Tyrion, born a dwarf. I hope they follow the storyline from the books, when it comes to Tyrion.

  17. Ha, I couldn´t agree more. (Lord) Varys has the best dialog, no matter who he is talking to. The best "other half" has to be Littlefinger and Tyrion though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes his chats with those two are some of the highlights of the show!

  19. Not gonna go with anything original here.Tyrion's final speech is probably one of the show's best scenes. And man,I can't wait for him to name his champion!I hope we get an equally epic scene for that.

Other than that,I loved the Small Counsil scene and basically everything with Oberyn and/or Varys.

  22. MY Lion:
Have to say Tyrion STOLE THE SHOW!
-Him trying to speak up for himself only to be told Speak when spoken to (by mean o' daddy)
-Literally sitting there Taking all the abuse and lies
-Trusting Jaime (+ BIG nod to Jaime for his sacrificial deal w Tywin)
-Still standing by Sansa w/o knowledge of her actions or whereabouts
-His Emotional torture (at the many witness betrayals) which was Clearly visible
-I am guilty.... of being a Dwarf!......

Tyrion may be a Lannister, but he has the heart of a Stark. He is (and has been since S1E1) my favorite male character.... and tonights episode was by far his best ! ! !

  23. I too knew we hadn't seen the last of Shae, I also figured she would pop-up in the trial...... I just was surprised at how s he LOOKED. She was gaunt, dark circles, and frail looking, which Shae is not. Is it possible that she has been being held "captive". Yes, I believe she was paid &/or forced to testify against Tyrion (Cersi), but I think she also took a little too much enjoyment from it. As much as their scenes together were sweet (pre-Joffrey's death), it seemed inevitably doomed....

Was extremely hard to watch MY Lion being verbally tortured and back stabbed by those who claimed to be his allies.
