    It did, the difference being Mary knew about it and was fine with it. She was so in love with Francis, she didn't care. She obviously thought they'd have a long life together filled with children.

    It was arranged before she went to France, she was about 5/6 and her mother got her to sign the documents, so I don't think she really knew what she was signing away. Henry VIII of England was trying to force her marriage to his son, and there were also two male claimants to the Scottish throne who were applying pressure to take the crown away from her (no female ruler had yet successfully ruled in Britain at this time), so the French offer was the best one going at the time.
