  2. Without a doubt Arya being a badass and Prince Oberyn Martell's beginning scene with the prostitutes and the soldiers.

  3. That was the only exiting part of the ep,when Arya and the Hound kicked butt.

  4. That scene with Oberyn just missed the list! Glad you included it here!

  5. I loved The Hound and Arya at the Inn But....
I think the scene that impressed me most was Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand at the LAnnister brothel!

For years now I have been wondering who they would cast as Oberyn (people wanted Indira Varma as Ellaria for almost a decade) and I was most excited to see how Pedro Pascal would do.

I never considered him since so few Americans have made the cast (even if he is American via Chile and Denmark). I never doubted Pascal's acting ability or swagger, but the change in appearance from book to screen did give me a few doubts....

    Pascal passed with flying colours!

  6. Arya and the Hound at the end were so good together. One of the things I like about her story is how we see this child deeply messed up by the violence she has witnessed and how she tries to take control of her situation in her own screwed up way.

I also loved the Jaime/Brienne bit because he knows deep down she is right and I like that after the shitty day he has they reconnect.

  7. Yup! Arya totally killed it! The writers did an awesome job of including Polliver and Lommy's exchange from season 2, reminiscent of how that scene plays in the book. Great job!

But I'd add Margeary being snarky about Joff (about time!) and Oberyn being OBERYN! And havin' it his own way. I've waited this long for him to appear, and it hasn't disappointed.

  8. Pedro Pascal was just too good as Oberyn. His scene with Tyrion was amazing.
Arya and The Hound were such a fun and bad ass twosome.
Jaime/Brienne conversation was nice to watch too.

Tywin melting down ice and creating Oathkeeper and Widows Wail

  10. Pfft. The whole episode was exiting. Something doesn't need to be physical/action-oriented for it to be exciting ;)

  11. And she's the only one who, I think, has ever truly seen him - who he's opened up to.

  12. OMG - the necklace of sparrow headss!! So, so close to making the list!!

  13. Yep its why I love their friendship so much, Kings Landing is not a good place for Jaime to try and keep his oaths and honor but with Brienne he is trying to.

  14. From the list,the one with Arya,obviously.
But my absolute favorite was Oberyn Martell talking to Tyrion about what happened to his sister.
Followed closely by the scene where Jon talks about Robb.I was however hoping that Jon finding out wouldn't be an offscreen scene.

  15. Arya and the Hound, what a wonderful team. I loved how Arya stayed quiet at the table. Not long ago she would have interrupted the two men.
Oberyn talking to Tyrion was a close second for me. tyrion was also more quiet than usual.

  16. I also loved how when the Hound jumped up to make his attack, Arya jumped at the same time. They were completely in unison.

  17. Oberyn and Tyrion was such a great scene! And has to be a heavy dose of foreshadowing - Thanks so much for adding that here!

  18. It is just a fantastic pairing! Great call on how Arya has changed.

  19. I always enjoy the three misfits together Tyrion, Bronn and Podrick. Even tho times in KL are intense and will get only moreso. I can imagine what a shame it'll be to them broken apart in later episodes.

  20. That scene was so well done and just vital to the rest of the future plotlines.

tough to decide; the episode was pretty consistently stong. But Arya getting Needle back and putting it to good use--along with getting a pony!--was where I ended up.

  22. The introduction of Oberyn, definitely, although of course the last scene was amazing as well.

  23. Great way to kick off a new season. Some new characters, some characters in new surroundings, and at least one new face on an existing character. This is where the books start to get really interesting, IMO. Lots of great stuff to come.

The prologue, re-forging Ice into Oathkeeper and Widow's Wail, was mentioned and I agree. You hear the melody of Rains of Castamere playing as Tywin Lannister is symbolically sealing his victory over the Starks by re-forging the famous sword which had been passed down through generations of Starks. It's really a scene that gets its depth from reading the books. Also, Victorious Tywin looks just like angry Tywin. This is just what he does. He simply vanquishes his enemies completely.

Arya's scene was brilliant, too. She's becoming well-seasoned in the art of self-preservation. She's always watching, looking for the perfect time to pounce. She remembers what she's witnessed and carries it with her but it's not baggage, it's fuel.

  24. Voted other - reforging Ice for me. Such a significant moment. The ultimate sealing of the Starks' fall. I remember in the book Sansa was terrified when she discovered Ice was missing, I loved that moment cause I also felt it was the only time she's ever leaned on Tyrion as her husband, but I guess the show makers will not let her have that moment. Nevertheless, the death of Ice was the biggest highlight of the episode for me, even though it was the first scene. But way to open a season with it!
The next would be Jon's confession. I loved him in that scene. He now has so much of an inner fire instead of being grim and stupidly stubborn like before. I blame Ygritte ;) That burn of Janos Slynt was simply perfect.
Arya and the Hound are awesome together, but as a book reader I can't help but feel the scene was put too soon in the storyline. In the book they found out about several political twists that have not happened yet in the series. Not to mention they weren't supposed to ride away into the sunset without any harm. But these changes I could take. Most of all I was missing the "remember where the heart is" bit. It's one of Arya and Sandor's classic lines. It should've been there and I sure hope it still gets to appear somehow.
I felt similarly confused with Brienne standing there staring at Sansa. Now Brienne's entire quest to find her gets kind of stupid. Should've just grabbed her when you could, Brienne, duh.
Also loved Oberyn talking about Elia, mostly because the whole Robert's rebellion drama fascinates me much more than many of the real time affairs in Westeros and it does also influence the affairs still to come.

  25. Seriously, what is it with the Hound and the Stark girls? He does have a soft spot for both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think a large part of it is his youth and being bullied and abused by his older brother Gregor ' The Mountain' Clegane. It caused him to have a soft spot for victims of abuse and bad circumstances like the Stark girls.

Also, he has seen what knights do and how they are hypocrites. How the title does not make them chivalrous. He seems to rejoice in taking knights down a peg or two.

It is such an interesting and odd thing seeing as he was Joffrey's pet dog and Joffrey is literally King abuser!
