POLL: Game of Thrones - Who poisoned [*****]?

14 Apr 2014

SPOILER WARNING - We would like to make fans who haven't read the books aware that this poll will probably contain spoilers, so please do not view the answers to the poll, or the comments below, if you are strictly wishing to avoid all spoilers on this topic.

As you know some parts of the show have been changed already in their adaptation from the novels, as this may include the explanation on who killed Joffrey given in the books we thought we'd run a poll to hear your thoughts. Or maybe you believe that the account in the book might yet be proved to be a lie in one of the future books. Or perhaps you just watch the show and have your own theory from last nights episode. We'd like to hear what you think, so please vote and sound off below!

You can vote for 2 characters in the poll

Game of Thrones - Who killed Joffrey?

  1. I don't know but whoever did it, I'd like to personally thank them.

  2. It was clearly Tommen because he wants to be King.

    People got it right!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love that people are voting for Tywin, Cersei even Tommen lool. It makes no sense, but I love it. All I am gonna say is that it was the combined effort of more than one persons. Don't wanna spoil it :D..

Why is there a spoiler warning at the top of the post, when the spoiler is blatantly in the title of the article?

I mean, I've seen it already so no big deal for me, but I just think that's funny.

It was so funny to see just how many people from around the continent that just loathed the King of Westeros.

  6. And you Sandi, who do you think poisoned him?

    ReplyDelete
  7. That picture makes me cringe and smile at the same time. Cringe because damn is that a horrible way to die, and smile because damn did he deserve worse.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Because people know who killed him from the books. So it's just a warning that the vote is most likely going to be the person(s) who killed him.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I dunno, I've read the books so I know that explanation but something in me doesn't entirely trust it, Martin is a slippery as an eel.... lol. I wouldn't put it past Cersei or Tywin, so they could control Tommen, any of the Tyrell's cos of the situation Marg had been placed in or Littlefinger/Varys just for an easy life. Let's face it, most people would have an easier life with him gone, lol

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm thinking it was Olenna or Sansa but i want to watch the last 20 minutes again,i might change my mind..

    ReplyDelete
  11. The spoiler isn't that he is dead, the show aired yesterday. But because there is one explanation given in the books about who did it and why, non-book readers will probably be spoiled by that as book readers will talk about it in the comments, and vote for those two people in the poll ;)

  12. I voted for Ser Dontos and Sansa because of the necklace that he gave her in the season premiere. She probably found the poison in the necklace before the wedding feast and used it to kill Joffrey. I haven't read the books so forgive me.

  13. Jaime! There's only one true kingslayer (would be now also sonslayer).

  14. Wilson Crawford15 April 2014 at 00:25

No offense to that logic, but it's been 1 day... the spoiler to me is still that Joffrey is dead. Who did it is by far the lesser spoiler of the 2 items. But I do get what you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That would make him Kinslayer, from killing someone who's related. Jaimie had no love for Joffrey, but he ain't the perpetrator.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm betting on Grandmama Tyrell, the old battle axe is a fiery protector when it comes to family and she knows Joffrey is, was a monster so it was to protect Margeary.

  17. (Copy and pasting a comment I said further down the page. I'm beginning to think I've missed something big lol). Who is said to have done it in the books? I always thought they there was never really a definitive answer, it was just hints and stuff. I looked online today and people still seem to think that there's quite a few people it could have been. What did you get from the books?

    ReplyDelete
  18. My reaction when I saw this poll was: "aww, that's right, it's still a mystery to so many people". Enjoy the guessing everyone, sometimes I wish I hadn't read the books, but then again, they're so damn awesome ;)
    Spolier area!
I don't think the book explanation is a lie, it's all there, the hair net, Olenna fixing Sansa's hair, the missing stone, ser Dontos explaining Sansa that the stones are "magical" and will take her home. Of course someone else might have been involved as well, but I'm pretty sure all of Olenna Tyrell, Littlefinger and ser Dontos were involved and knew exactly what was going on. Poor Sansa was completely unaware, of course. I'm wondering if Margaery knew. Given how calm about marrying Joffrey she was, I'd say she knew. She might even have been the one to throw the stone in his wine.

    ReplyDelete
  19. My money's on Olenna for sure. But it would be pretty cool if it was actually Jaime.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's spoilertv.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I completely agree, though there really is no way to avoid news of a character's death in this day unless you stay off of twitter and all tv news sites. I usually watch shows where characters die often first for that reason.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wilson Crawford15 April 2014 at 02:25

Yeah I understand that. Last night I hadn't seen GOT yet around 11, and read that it was indeed the wedding so I went ahead and watched it because I wanted to see Joffrey go down. So satisfying.

  23. Wilson Crawford15 April 2014 at 02:26

Oh my goodness! I was completely unaware! What is this Spoilertv that you speak of?

It's not as if I've ever written for or read anything on this site before. My point was not that it is a spoiler, but that it posted the title as a pretty big spoiler, and then underneath posted "SPOILER WARNING" for a spoiler that really isn't nearly as...uhm... spoiler-tastic(?) in my opinion. I mean, either post it openly or cover both spoilers.

I thought it was humorous. I digress.

  24. SPOILERS

It's been a while since I read the books, but I think they mentioned that Olenna Tyrell and Petyr Baelish were responsable for Joffrey's murder...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't want to be annoying, but you just ruined it for those who are late on watching the episodes...

Such a spoiler on the title is too spoilery. I know it is called "spoilertv", but there is usually a "spoilers ahead" warning even on the comments.

Couldn't you maybe phrase it like this "POLL: Game of Thrones: Who poisoned [SPOILERS]?" OR "POLL: Game of Thrones: Who poisoned ----------?"

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always took the hints in the books the same way.
I'm not sure who the show will have responsible for putting the poison into Joffrey's glass but...

I assume it is a conspiracy of three- Oleanne Tyrell, Petyr Baelish and Dontos Hollard.

Those three benefit the most from Joffrey's death.
    - Oleanna keeps her granddaughter on the throne but with a more malleable husband beside her in the form of young Tommen.
    - Littlefinger gets the auburn beauty he always wanted and gets to laugh at Cersei in the process.
    - Dontos gets to play a role in avenging his family's destruction at the hands of then Hand of King Aerys, Tywin Lannister.

Oleanna was the money for the operation and maybe behind the tactical as well. She was not going to let her comely rose Margaery marry a brute like Joffrey.

Littlefinger was probably the supplier of the poison as well as part of the planning. Baelish always wanted Catelyn Stark.. until he met her daughter Sansa. If Sansa takes any shade for Joffrey's death she will have to flee King's Landing... Who is in a better place to help her than Littlefinger? Plus Baelish thrives on the chaos of the noble houses.

Dontos was delivery man in fool's clothing! He gets the jewelry to Sansa who becomes an unknowing pawn in Joffrey's murder. Sansa is considered helpless and pathetic by the Lannisters so they do not watch her as closely as say the Tyrells or the Martells etc.

  27. Ha! XD

I too would like to buy that man a drink, but I most certainly would not drink anything he offered me XD

  28. ETA:
I never could buy into the Cersei poisoned Joffrey theory that some believe.. but do think she is capable of being that twisted.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tell em what you think bout mockingjay!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Im going for Olenna that old lady definetly has the balls to do it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well I think its the explanation we have been given so far in the books and also the way the episode was framed and the fact that GRRM wrote it makes me think that's the truth,

    ReplyDelete
  32. Alexandra Tsernant15 April 2014 at 07:13

I'd say - Cersei) She was so afraid to lose her power (especially to Margery) that she could go even that far to save it. Now her second son will become king, and she'd stay the queen regent and all that)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I understand the ****, but the picture isn't actually that ambiguous...

    ReplyDelete
  34. I tried to pay close attention, but only whilst screencapping it (blink and you miss it) found out what might have caused it. Though I can say you are on a good track.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that Olenna and Petyr were the architects of the poisoning plot, and they enlisted Margaery to help carry out; so, all three are responsible. I think Ser Dontos is being used as a lackey by Petyr to win Sansa's trust. Poor girl!! I think Varys probably knew about the plot to kill Joffrey, but true to his form of protecting himself, he didn't try to stop it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The explanation from the books is on this page of the wiki, it doesn't have any other future spoilers on the page apart from that - http://tinyurl.com/oq2g2uo

    ReplyDelete
  37. from what comes after, i dont want to thank joff's killer. it only gets worse from here on out. would much rather have seen cersei gone.

    ReplyDelete
  38. SPOILER

Baelish explains what happened to Sansa in her chapter on the Fingers(Chapter 68 according to the wiki). A lot of people think it was more than just Olenna but, from what I read, I think it was just Olenna acting on her own.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sorry, Cathy, that you stumbled on this but I think Spoiler TV does a good job trying to be mindful of the people who come to Spoiler TV and don't want to be spoiled. I avoid Spoiler TV until I am caught up on all of my shows...just in case...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Cersei is well twisted, but one of her few positive features is that she genuinely loves her children, even Joffrey. I could see Tywin do that, but not Cersei.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's an interesting question. I don't think Olenna would willingly give Sansa up. She would've wanted her for the Tyrells, we ought not to forget according to the common knowledge all Stark boys are dead and Sansa is the heiress of the North. Olenna probably would've wanted to steal her away and marry her to Willas, as planned before. So yeah, I'd say Littlefinger outmaneuvered her.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would also consider things that happened in the premiere episode too!

    ReplyDelete
  43. The all dressed in purple Sigur Ros! (and you thought they were the peaceful pacifist from Sothorys) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think it has to do with the necklace but I want to rewatch the last half of the episode. If it does have something to do with the necklace than who gave it to the guy (cannot remember his name) who gave it to Sansa? Was it Orlenna and if so was it even meant for Joffrey? How did she know Tyrion would have to be the wine holder?
If it wasn't meant for Joffrey then who????? Questions, questions, questions!
Maybe Orlenna was working for someone else, maybe Sansa and Orlenna were in cahoots? Nah!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I had to goggle them yesterday,i couldn't remember what they looked like out of costume!

    ReplyDelete
  46. They have such amazing live shows! There is a lot of interwoven video imagery that is just heartbreaking. I still have one in head where children are playing with what at first looks like winter clothes in the snow, but then you realize they have gas masks on and that it is ash in some kind of post nuclear play ground scene...you follow one little child in particular and in the end her mask falls off and she dies!

    ReplyDelete
  47. His name is Dantos, but I'm not saying anything more! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. The book fans know, if they've read far enough. I suppose it's spoilery to even say that much isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Who sang Rains of Castamere in the closing credits to the episode? If you told me it was Jack Gleeson, I'd probably believe you.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes Dontos! Well i just rewatched the last 20 minutes of this ep and i didn't catch anything but i know something has to be there,so i'll check it again. Now i also need to watch the 1st ep.....I'll be back, even if your not talking anymore, lololo! :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Look at what i wrote 2 comments above, this is what i'm thinking... Well,i'm trying to put the puzzle together as a non book reader.... :P

    ReplyDelete
  52. See my comment above! It's the great Icelandic band Sigur Ros!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sure! No problem! I hope you enjoy them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I didn't want to be rude or anything, and I also avoid looking at spoilers. The problem is that I am up to date on some shows, and late on others. For instance, I haven't been able to watch the latest seasons of HIMYM and GoT, but am currently watching AoS, The Blacklist, Believe, and others.
I come to spoilertv for these shows I'm watching as they are being broadcasted and try to avoid spoilers about the others I don't have the time or possibility to watch right now.
I really didn't mean to be annoying or sound mean, I just thought it might be helpful for other fans. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. AND NO I WILL NEVER PUT SPOILER BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING PERIOD....

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well, in seeing the scene play out -- I find that the pie is an intentional red-herring. I recall reading the scene and thinking that. It wasn't until later, when I read what happened, that it became clear.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Vladimir Poutine ! (I have read the books) ^^

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think you could of also written this a little nicer. I think it's true that this is a spoiler website and so it does imply that this is a place for spoiler readers, but at the same time, I think it's still important to mindful that we may all have different levels of what kind of spoilers we are willing to spoil ourselves with and it doesn't hurt anyone to try and cater to that by not outright spoiling things, especially within the titles.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You weren't rude or annoying. You're fine. Enjoy the rest of your day and see you "around" here.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I wanted to apologize for my comments being harsh!! I of course was not intending on making any viewers upset with me. I was just frustrated with people complaining about things they considered spoilers when the comments were far from spoilers. Well that was I'm pretty sure my first post on GOT I just watched every episode up to season 4 so I was really excited to read some spoilers on the show. Usually I post on the walking dead side of this site and people truly give all the spoilers they have. But as I said sorry!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks for the kind response. I can understand your frustration and I agree that there are different fans of different shows that tend to be more spoiler hungry than others. I just think it's not that big of a deal to curb our enthusiasm for the sake of others that have different set of spoiler limits. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. You were to kind.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Way too kind! :)
