  1. At first I was very unsure and didn't see it working well, but I was pleasantly surprised when he was introduced onto the show. The only bad part is that he can't hang around with Team Arrow longer than he did, but with the growth of that cave there won't be much room left soon ;) seriously though, I thought his character was refreshing and he definitely brought something special to the role.

  2. I didnt like the actor so i was disappointed, but he proved me wrong, because he played his role in Arrow amazing

  3. Couldn't agree more. I didn't really know him at first, but he proved himself. Besides, I think he has good chemistry with other actors in general. He was in Arrow for two episodes and already managed to extract intense reactions from everyone, without feeling like a complete outsider. I approve.

I actually don't know the guy, so I would say it's too early to say; besides, sometimes even good actors can do a bad job in some roles and bad actors can pull off a good job. I'd wait and see

  5. He was fine in Arrow - is he good enough to carry a series? I hope so, but I am not sure yet. So 'too early to tell,' got my vote.

  6. I wasn't sure at the moment they cast him, but after The Scientist(BEST arrow ep to date for me) I was compelled by his character. I hope they don't butch him up to much he needs that innocent look to keep it going.

  7. Oh I feel the downvotes coming but I'm completely dissapointed about the casting, granted I didn't start out thinking positively about the casting choice in the first place.
But after the two episode arc I was utterly dissapointed. This guy has one acting style and that's 'geeky'. There's nothing more to his performance. Arrow doesen't shine with fantastic actors to begin with but Gustin is clearly one of the worst this show has brought forward.

    My ranting aside:
I do think that he might grow tough, we'll see if he's like Charles Michael Davis and stops trying after episode 2 and says 'screw it, I'm on theCW now, might as well stop acting' or if he's more like Tom Welling who at least tries to bring out a better performance and tries his best to grow.
Am I looking forward to The Flash ? With a different lead I'd be definitely cheer for the spin-off to happen but thanks to Gustins performance I'll have to beat myself to watch it.

But the fact that theCW cut the backdoor pilot makes me think that I'm not the only one not-so convinced about the project after Gustins introduction.
If they were to do a backdoor pilot said pilot couldn't be erased from Arrows history, if they decided to do a normal pilot they could just forget that it ever happened because we wouldn't get to see it. In that aspect I think that there were some question marks at theCWs headquaters about the spin-off.

I'll give it a try if it comes to pass, maybe the spin-off and Gustin manage to convince me. We'll see.

that being said: anyone else kind of hoping for either a Suicide Squad or Birds of Prey spin-off ?
After seeing the cast images for the Suicide Squad I can't help but want this show to go to series ASAP. Deadshot, Shrapnel, Waller, Harbinger, Bronze Tiger and Diggle (who could start calling himself 'Rick Flagg' as an alias) hunting bad guys each week just sounds like a dream come true and it'd fit to Arrows urban crime fighting atmosphere. And Birds of Prey ? Hell yes !

  8. It's a little early to say but I loved him on Arrow and should the show last for many years, it will be great to see the evolution of Flash as Barry evolves too.

  9. Yay, it's always fun when my polls are posted. :)

I say it's too early to tell. I concur with those who pointed out the difference between being a guest star in 2 episodes (not even a longer arc) and carrying your own series. The latter obviously presents a much bigger challenge to Gustin as an actor. That being said, he definitely succeeded in making Barry fun and adorable and even though The Flash sounds like less my type of show than Arrow, I'll be giving it the old college try.

  10. Someone pointed out that after the extreme fiasco of the 90's Birds of Prey series, The CW will probably think twice (or eight times) before green-lighting a new one. Unfortunately I think it's really hard for female superhero shows to succeed, even more so than action shows with a female lead in general. Apart from that BoP, shows like Buffy and Alias achieved cult status but not particularly high ratings, Nikita pretty much bombed, etc.

If they do go for a new BoP it better have a dark, edgy bent like Arrow itself and not be a cheese-fest like the original show (and, frankly, Smallville - don't kill me).

  11. I won't kill you, I know that Smallville had its own distinct style that some liked and some didn't.

But that's exactly what I'm fearing with The Flash, I don't see any Arrow-esque atmosphere coming up with a lead like this.

And I agree on the fact that sadly female super heroes didn't manage to set foot into our TV landscape. I'm still hoping for Joss to let Marti Noxon do 'Faith - The Vampire Hunter' or 'Dawn - The Demon Slayer' ^^

  12. I'd love a Faith series, but isn't Marti Noxon the Buffy writer who turned it into The Spike Show? (I don't know how you feel about his character so I guess I'm risking getting on your bad side again, LOL) I know there's more or less a consensus that Season 6 was a train wreck.

  13. Great because he did a great job on his 2 Arrow episodes.

  14. That's the impression I've gotten, but of course, it's always hard to make an evaluation of the consensus since each of us only sees a fraction of the opinions online. It's apparently widely agreed that Seasons 2 & 3 were the strongest but Season 6 may not be as hated as it appears (to me).

  15. There seems to be an assumption that Spike's huge role and the icky S&M relationship between he and Buffy were largely Noxon's doing because she took over as showrunner during the sixth season. Don't know how accurate that is, though. And I agree that she has some good and even great (like "The Wish") episodes under her belt, although I thought "Dead Man's Party" made half of the characters quite unlikable.

  16. Never heard of that, the only thing I heard is that James Marsters stopped working out between season 6 and 7 because he didn't want as many shirtless scenes.
But that's where my knowledge ends.

True but frankly season 3 as a whole made various characters unlikable. :/

Still, a new Buffy themed show needs to happen at some point :(

  17. I did like Spike better in season 2-5 to be honest. I didn't like the watered down version of him.
Noxon was attatched to Buffy since season 2 and wrote various solid episodes ('Villains' 'The Wish' etc.)

I don't think she was what turned it into the Spike show, the fan response might be what caused that.

But tbh there was always a focus on the shows 'main vampire'. In season 1-3 it was Angel and in season 4-7 it was Spike.

  18. @Alex Forrest Is that the consensus? Like really? (not in a rude way? I just didn't
know. ) I have loved buffy since 2000, I just stay away from any boards
or discussion because fans get really into it, but I personally thought
season six was really great. I loved joss's whole "Life is the big bad"
outlook of the season. I at least thought six was better than 4 and 7.
I didn't know fans hated it though it had some great episodes.

  19. When i saw him on Arrow all i watwhed was Sebastian Smythe but he rocked the thing and makes me forget Bass and become to like a lot Barry Allen, can't wait to see him on his show.

I loved the casting choice. He really impressed me on Glee and I loved his episode of The Glee Project, but I hated how he never had any full on roles. Everything was a guest stint/minor recurring character. So to see him cast as The Flash is a real breakout moment for him to show the world what he can do.
