Episode 8/10
16th March 2014
BBC ONE

The Musketeers are tasked with bringing the fearsome Labarge, a regional Intendant, under arrest for the murder of two Musketeers, to Paris. The Red Guards, resentful of the Musketeers’ handling of him, initiate a vicious fight between the two regiments.

Fed up with the disruptive rivalry between the Musketeers and the Red Guards, the king calls a contest between them to settle which one is stronger once and for all. D’Artagnan is determined to be chosen to fight so that he can prove himself worthy to be a Musketeer. But first he has to learn to control his impetuous nature and to fight with his head, not his heart.

Luke Pasqualino is D’Artagnan, Tom Burke is Athos, Howard Charles is Porthos, Santiago Cabrera is Aramis, Hugo Speer is Captain Treville, Ryan Gage is King Louis, Alexandra Dowling is Queen Anne, Maimie McCoy is Milady and Peter Capaldi is Cardinal Richelieu. Vinnie Jones guest stars as Labarge and Zoe Tapper is Alice Clerbeaux.

  3. lol yeah, kind of like how every season of Merlin had a tournament with the same kind of tents in the background.

  4. Hmm, so this is how D'Artagnan earns his Musketeers stripes, so to speak, that we see in the ep 9 pics then

Apparently so, yes. Earlier than I thought he would, but it's cool.

  6. I had to email to ask for this as it hasn't been showing up on their site, week 12's (ep 9) info is due up at the end of the week so hopefully the wait won't be too long

  8. No worries. I'm just watching ep 7 now (only 10 mins thou), so watch out for the teasers for that a bit later on today. Not a great of Aramis in it yet, but then he did have a great one on Sunday, so we can't be too greedy, lol.

  10. They are still not putting Tamla Kari (Constance) in the cast list. Weird. It's like they forgot she is a main character.

  11. I can't see the viewing figures changing while it's in the slot it is unfortunately, it's seriously mismanaged where it is imo. It's rated 12 I believe, but is shown after the watershed with a completely unrelated lead in that appeals to a different demographic, which is just ridiculous. I know young teenagers who love it, but being on after bedtime on a Sunday without a midweek repeat makes it hard for them to count on official figures (iplayer stats don't yet count online). They could easily add over a million to it's audience just by either airing it 7.30pm on Saturdays or having a repeat on BBC 3 later on in the week, it's beyond me why they don't :s

  12. I agree that so far d'Artagnan is the least developed character (and in those moments where I'm not completely sure about the chemistry between him and Constance, I think it's because of that). And, yes, I would agree that they need to give him more motivation and personality. I don't mind the way they've been building the characters of all the musketeers and going deeper into each of the characters, but I'd really like for the show to start following up with things, and taking on that serial feel.

I said this before in another thread, but I did read an interview with Hodges where he said he'd basically been pushed to keep to self contained episodes and then was able to convince the powers above him that the episodes needed more of that overarching mystery. So I'm hoping we'll see more of that in the final episodes, and that we'll actually see our heros dealing with things the show set up in the beginning and then either dropped, didn't convince me of very well, or just hasn't presented to my satisfaction. :)

If they do that, it might take my devoted enjoyment to devoted love.

  13. Sad, but true. I'm hoping when it airs on BBC America that it gets really really good numbers. I haven't checked. I believe it airs beginning in April, but do you know the time slot it will be airing at in the US?

  14. Just had a look on their site, it just says 'coming in June' atm, that seems like an awfully long wait, won't a lot of people just have watched vis, ahem, other means by then? :s I hope it does well too, it could do with a boost. Thou I hope they also decide what they want the show to be for season 2 too!

  15. I'm glad at least that they gave it the early green light for season two. And will hopefully give it a chance to grow and work out its kinks.

I could have sworn that something I read said April. Grr.

Other means? What could you possibly mean. ;)

  16. I'm sure I had heard April too, so there must have been something out there about then I think originally and it's changed maybe? A six month wait does seem absolutely ridiculous doesn't it!

As for other means, I'm not sure what I meant there *innocent face* :) hehe

  17. Tournament! Yessss

  18. Yes. Every year I'd wonder, when will the tournament episode be? :)

  19. This news today might partly explain why there's no midweek repeat I guess - http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/mar/05/bbc3-axed-director-general-plans-tony-hall

  20. A lot earlier than I thought. I really thought they'd stretch that out more.

  21. I'm getting the impression from general Musketeer fans on the web ( and those who aren't impressed with the show so far ) that D'artagnan's "lack of motivation and development" is becoming a problem and that they want to see less of the 'Musketeer of the week' storylines and more of a long running storyarcs that involve Milady, the Cardinal and the King & Queen being in real danger etc.

If episode 8 has more duelling and fighting going on, it may appeal more to those viewers who aren't currently enjoying the show that much. Interestingly, the guys over at Den of Geek are waiting for more Cardinal, Milady and D'artagnan / Constance development than anything else, even though they're enjoying the show in general. Hopefully episode 8 will be the start of a more dramatic series final and boost the viewing figures that are still dropping a bit every week.
