The best episode of the second half of the season so far, in my oppinion. Daryl and Beth formed a really strong bond, and their new relationship was heartwarming to watch - only to turn into complete heartbreak a few minutes later when she was taken. And Oh My God - The Hunters! If they are who I think they are... RUN DARYL! RUNNNNNN!!!! Daryl and Beth's storyline was what truly stood up in this episode, though the opening scene with Bob, and the ending - where he was alone again - and Maggie and Sasha found him, were really good scenes. Next episode will be based on Tyreese's group by the look of the promo. I'll just have to find a way to survive two weeks without knowing Daryl and Beth's fate.
I liked it a lot. These slow, character-focused episodes are so much more interesting when more than one group is highlighted. I did not enjoy last week's at all, with just Beth and Daryl, but this time, switching from those two to the other trio was definitely more exciting. I'm quite invested in Maggie finding Glenn. (I hope rain doesn't wash off her blood-message). As for Beth, I'm mystified. I thought she found a car and ditched Daryl, but others are saying she was kidnapped. Makes more sense, because if that car had been there all along, Beth and Daryl would have used it.
That scene with Daryl, now alone and sitting in the road, defeated, was really powerful. I don't know who those people were that he met up with, but they were dressed like people who are "bad." (Daryl doesn't believe good people survived). I think the comics readers are a jump ahead right now.
Maybe I'm in the minority here (or maybe not ...??), but I really prefer these slower, more focused character-driven episodes. I think the show has gone on long enough where it has the potential to become a strong ensemble tale -- i.e., Rick not necessarily the de facto "leader" of the group, and therefore not the central character. This goes along with what the writers have been asserting all along: that NO character is ever safe. Up until now Rick -- and probably Carl -- have certainly seemed to have a sort of writer-granted immunity to demise. I personally like the idea that TWD might even up the stakes. I think it ups the tension considerably.
I also loved the opening and ending bookend scenes with Bob -- the smile on his face as he rode in the back of Glenn's pickup, and the smile on his face as he reunited with Sasha and Maggie. I do wish they would draw Maggie just a little more broadly. Lauren Cohan does a fantastic job, but it strikes me that she just lost her whole family, for crying out loud. Maybe her single-minded quest for Glenn is her coping mechanism for all that grief, but I'd think she'd at least mention a couple other names from time to time.
That brings me to Beth, and how I'm pretty convinced she's been kidnapped since her last words shouted to Daryl were "I won't leave you." I do hope they let her character survive and come back. I was surprised by the closeness that was developing between those two, but I actually found it to be a sweet and hopeful connection. Unexpectedly, those characters seem to balance each other beautifully.
When Bob leaned in to kiss Sasha, I totally loved how ambiguous their reactions were. Was Bob's "Well, okay" him accepting she's not into him and merely a reaction to her reaction and there's more going on between these two? Totally digging it.
I liked last night's episode. I was a little confused at first with Bob walking on the tracks alone and then Glenn and Darryl riding up; I kept thinking, did I miss something, when did Glenn and Darryl meet up. Enjoyed Beth and Darryl's scenes. They totally seemed to have a brother/sister type of relationship. It was cute how he gave her a piggy-back ride and then later on carried her into the kitchen. The only non-brother/sister vibe I got from them was when Darryl refused to flat out say that Beth was the reason he was starting to change his mind about people. They just stared at each other and I wasn't sure where they were going with that. I wonder who took Beth. For a split second I thought maybe she drove off in the car, but then we see her backpack spilled out on the ground. My heart broke for Darryl at the end when he finally sat down on the ground after running for hours looking for Beth and not finding her. He looked so defeated. Before we knew it was the bad guys walking up to Darryl, I thought it might be Bob. I mean, I think everybody's on the train tracks by now. Does anyone think that the guy's Darryl's hooking up with now are the one's that took Beth?
I don't think they ones who took Beth are from the same group as the one Daryl ended up with. These guys were travelling on foot the entire time, even when they rolled into Rick's house. Maybe someone who lived in that funeral parlol before took Beth? They did kind of breach his/her/their safe haven.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved it, although I think I'm ready for them to start being re-united

It was good, but definitely ready for everyone to reunite. And I hope Daryl gets that dog back!
ReplyDeleteI think the dog was a zombie snack unfortunately as we heard the dog and then there was a hoard of zombies at the door.
ReplyDeleteAnimals don't have a good history on this show.
Who the heck took Beth?

And why?
ReplyDeleteThe guys that Daryl met are the same guys that showed up at the house that Rick was in, while Carl and Michonne were out.

Yes I think so. And this kidnappers will not see the sun rising again.

Why didn't the guys in suits had gunshots to the head or anything? Shouldn't that make them undead still?
