You are not. I didn't see that coming at all. I thought he would get wounded and recover from that. I had no idea that they would actually kill him off. This changes everything.

  3. Strange scene in the ER, no intubation, no IV line, no efforts to resuscitate. Not real at all. Is this a dream sequence. All wrong !!!

  4. i actually liked will a lot. dont feel like watching this show anymore :(

  9. Article on TVLine says that Josh Charles didn't renew his contract for the full season, that he chose to leave. I think I'm done with TGW.

  10. oh wow! Usually we hear buzz about somebody leaving before it happens....not this time; I had no idea that was coming. Very disappointed...think I'm done too...him being gone changes the whole vibe of the show!

  13. Where did my comment go???

  14. I hate to say it, but because of Will's death, I don't think they'll ever get its proper dynamic back therefor I don't think I'll be watching the show anymore

  15. I'm torn between voting awesome or awful.. I didn't see it coming AT ALL, I think it was beautifully executed.. from the first gunshot, I would never have thought Will would have died in the end, I wasn't even stressed! I am sure Julianne Margulies will play her role flawlessly following Will's death. Awful, because what the hell !? He and Alicia were an end game, and he was such an central part of the show !!! And even though I didn't see it coming, I now look very differently at the flashbacks we had in the last few episodes of the times they were together, how they came across each other when Alicia was looking for a job, how they made "peace" with one another.. they were setting the table.

  16. Seriously, I just... man, I'll get back here tomorrow, but right now I just wanna kick some people.

  17. In all honesty, I love TGW, but their ratings have been slopping ever since S4. If one of the main actors wanted to leave, why not get the show over with in S5? Now, they'll just have to go on a completely different direction. I'm not saying they can't do it, I have faith in Robert and Michelle King, they are awesome writers, they can. But Will and Alicia either had to be end game or to have some sort of closure. This is the definition of NON-closure. Alicia's life will move on, just as everyone else's life moves on, but it still is extremely disappointing. Besides, if she ends up with Peter, there will be a reckoning. Like, seriously.

  18. I loved how Peter is in the clear now since the Feds needed Will to roll on him. So that case goes bye bye,

  19. I liked how Peter is in the clear now that Will is dead. I loved how Alicia is going to be affected.

  20. I did not see that coming. As much as I love the the characters, the show will not be the same without Will. I almost would have preferred that they ended the show this season on a happier note, rather than kill off a central character. I'm really bummed.

  21. And this is why The Good Wife is not only the best drama on Network TV (joint with Hannibal) but one of the best dramas period. When they advertise a game changing episode they are not lying one bit.

I am absolutely stunned by the death of Will and I am deeply impressed that in an age where spoilers run free and consume everything that they managed to keep it a secret.

It completely changes the show going forward, there is no fairytale ending for Will and Alicia - not that I expected one and I certainly didn't want it. Diane, Kalinda, Alicia and Cary will all be deeply changed by what has happened and watching that fallout is going to be amazing.

  22. Excuse me while I go cry in a dark corner...

  23. Aaaa no, not Will!!! The best character on the show. :-( I think I'm done with the show.

  24. First i was awesome episode. Second (and probably i will get a lot of down votes and bad comments, but still) i was only surprised by Will's death, i my opinion they should have at least found him some other job, or at least some other way to exit the show. And third about the show it really is getting unnecessary complicated, the show was created around the character Alicia Floric, not around Will or the others it's time to move on and be done with this going in between her office and FG and other stuff.

I had a hard time between voting Awesome & Awful but I chose Awesome for several reasons:
Julianna is just a favorite of mine since she appeared in ER. But secondly, Will's character was phemeonal and I am glad that it was so traumatic. I ALWAYS saw Alicia & Will together but this changes things and leaves the show to go new places. I am definitely planning to still watch but I will still be heartbrokem by Will's death and his character's decision to leave TGW. I'm still in awe and shock out of all the other shows I watch; it was the BEST!

    WAY TO GO CBS!

  26. Thank you Will Gardner.Goodbye..

  27. Um, maybe because he is not the star of the show and CBS thinks the ratings are just fine. CBS has the luxury of carrying a show that may not have the highest demo ratings, but skews high income, gets critical acclaim and they own it. How many critical, but low-rated dramas have been lamented on here that the network cancels quality, etc. The fact that JC stayed for an extra 15 episodes, speaks highly of his respect for the show. He could've walked at the end of S4 according to reports.

  28. I think there was a lot more to Will's character than his relationship with Alicia. Josh Charles was a terrific actor, who never had a dull scene. He had great chemistry with a number of other characters, besides Alicia, including Dianne and Kalinda for starters. His character will sorely be missed for those and so many other reasons. For those of who tend to be empathetic, I can't help but feel very sad to see such a beloved character die. Yes, the Will and Alicia relationship was a great subplot of the story but it certainly wasn't the main reason for all of the awesome episodes that writers. Anyway, to assume that people are upset just because they are shippers, diminishes the importance of Will's character (and also unfairly underestimates fans of the show). Yes, the episode was brilliantly executed and I'm glad that some viewers were able to watch his death with a certain amount of detached appreciation, but you have to understand that everyone reacts differently. Will was a very integral and popular character in the show and I think that fans have the right to be very sad without getting a condescending lecture on how to behave.

  29. I was basing the shipper comment on a lot of the reaction I saw on TVLine and EW with people declaring they wouldn't watch the show again because Will/Alicia were endgame. I know Will had a lot of fans outside of that ship and I always liked Josh Charles performance even if I never warmed to the character.

But voting awful for this episode and saying the show is ruined seems a little short-sighted especially when The Good Wife has been having its best season creatively and there is no reason to think they writers will drop the ball now.

I understand what its like to lose a favourite character, it has happened countless times to the ones I like and maybe that's desensitized me a little but in the end the shows are still great and survive.

  30. Yeah the show has always been about Alicia's journey and they knew at the end of S4 this was going to happen so I doubt it changed much.

    ReplyDelete
  31. As I said, I have all faith in Robert and Michelle and I think they really planned this out. I also think Josh Charles has all the right in wanting to leave and that Alicia can have a perfectly good and well developed story without Will.
The truth is... it's just very unfortunate. But, as the writers said, they are trying to portrait life, to some extent, and these tragedies happen. The problem with Will and Alicia was always bad timing. What can be a better example of bad timing than him dying? It's very truthful to their relationship.
So, yeah, I'm just a fan who's sad about the turn the story took. But I admire the creators for being consistent and writing a story FOR THE STORY and not simply for the fans (which is, IMO, the worst thing anybody can ever do when it comes to storytelling). This is way better than Will moving to Boston and never showing up anymore. It sucks, but it's good.

  32. Never have I been so torn between "awesome" and "awful". I think it will depend on what happens later, on whether they handle it well. Oh, who am I kidding? It's TGW, of course they'll handle it well. "Awesome" it is.

    ReplyDelete
  33. That was awesome... I don't understand or agree with anyone who voted awful for this amazing episode.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am absolutely shocked. When I saw him lifeless in the hospital I yelled "WHAT?!!" and when I watched the preview for next week I cried. Then I saw the JC video explaining his departure and now I don't know how to feel. I just know one thing: as long as the writing is as compelling as it has been this whole season, I'll tune in... Great show. Still sad though...
