Pilot News - NBC passes on Conception, HBO passes on The Money

NBC has passed on Conception, its supernatural mystery drama project from writer John Glenn and producer David Janollari. The project, from Universal Television, where Glenn’s and Janollari’s companies are based, was set up at at the network in August with a put pilot commitment, a rare such big commitment for a pitch from a sibling studio. Co-written by Glenn and Lars Jacobson, Conception tracks a modern-day immaculate conception on a large scale. The show was to follow those few children that survived and how they’re destined to change the world. Being a big-swing, out-there concept, NBC in January opted to order backup scripts (3) instead of a pilot to get a better grasp of the idea and how it would evolve. After reading the scripts, I hear NBC brass opted not to go forward with the project. It is unclear yet whether Uni TV will shop it elsewhere.

HBO has opted not to proceed with The Money, its drama pilot written by David Milch, directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Brendan Gleeson. The project was about wealth and corruption among the super elite, focusing on American mogul and patriarch James Castman (Gleeson), who wields power and influence to expand his media empire and control his family. Nathan Lane, Patrick Kennedy, Dominique McElligott, Laila Robins, Billy Magnussnen and Morgan Spector co-starred in the pilot, with Ray Liotta, John Carroll Lynch, Rosemary Harris and Mamie Gummer playing recurring roles. Milch executive produced with Art Linson and John Linson.

  1. Conception sounds like a nice Series that could work on The Cw or SyFy.

  2. Conception was probably nixed for potential backlash from Christians I'm betting. NBC already had slight controversy for Revelations and a lot for The Book of Daniel. Oh well. It sounded really unique though, too bad.

I'm sad about The Money. I actually like David Milch's work.

  4. I like Milch too, hopefully some other cable network might pick it up.
