Okay, is it crazy that I am actually pissed that she debunked this theory? I mean, I wanted to be surprised by the ending and would have been happier when I found out in the series finale that the mother in fact is alive in 2030.
It was unbelievable to begin with. I don't get why people were so convinced about it. This shouldn't really come as a spoiler since it didn't make any sense at all.
Last week's episode had many people convinced. I wasn't 100 convinced, but I did think that it was a possibility that that the EPs may take that route.
I didn't like this theory to begin with so I'm glad she cleared this up albeit very subtly but still she cleared it up. This theory is so out there it's crazy I agree with her about how crazy us fans can be with this show this makes me like her even more because of this.
Ok, having a morbid ending would have ruined the show. Without the basis of this being a story about Ted's happy ending then he'd simply look like a sad clown. With a sad ending he'd just be a sad clown again.
After watching the video, I'm not convinced one way or the other. I don't personally believe that the mother is going to die, but Cristin was pretty careful to never say that the theory was wrong. She just said it was crazy. It would actually be crazier if the theory was true because that would be something fairly unexpected (for example, there's so many people believing it's going to happen now that the rest of us believe that's the very reason it's not going to happen), especially given the tone of the show.
If she was trying to preserve the surprise of her death, she would have said something similar to what she said in this interview if she was caught off guard.
So even though I still think she's going to survive it, I'm not convinced that this interview told us anything at all (except that the interviewer didn't understand what happened in Lost).
Yes, especially after Vesuvius, it wasn't so crazy to assume that. If that's not true and from her interview it looks like it isn't, it was definitely placed there as a red herring, for people to make that interpretation and throw us off whatever actual ending they had planned. So, yeah. I wish she hadn't debunked it yet.
People were thrown off by that shot of the crashed plane on the beach under the end credits of the finale. I admit, I had a moment of, "Oh don't tell me they were DEAD the whole time?! What BS!" Then someone assured me that wasn't the case. The creators were so surprised at how fans reacted to that, when the finale was rerun on the following Saturday, the crashed plane was removed from the closing credits sequence.
She didn't debunk it there... She just says "that's insane", going along with the attitude of the interviewer. Like any good actor would do when talking about mystery surrounding their show.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
It's a red herring, just like I thought! She could be sick, but no way is she dying.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad! I would hate to see everything ending so sadly. As if the fact that the show ends isn't sad enough. I already miss them.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty damn pissed she's done that to be honest.
ReplyDeleteNot crazy at all. I'm right there with you buddy.

ReplyDeleteThank you Cristin. The whole theory was awful, and had it played out, would've ruined the show.

ReplyDeleteAlzheimers?
ReplyDeleteThank God, I'm not sure if I would've lasted until the finale to learn the truth. It would be a horrible ending for Ted.
ReplyDeleteI am actually thinking that she might have to go away in some humanitarian mission; she does want to end world poverty after all.

Ugh, no one understands LOST, they weren't dead the whole time

ReplyDeleteI don't understand how people who've watched the finale don't understand that. It was the clearest answer we received.

ReplyDeleteI think that theory is still in play.
