How I Met Your Dad - Tiya Sircar to replace Krysta Rodriguez

26 Mar 2014

Tiya Sircar has been cast as one of the leads in CBS’ How I Met Your Mother spinoff How I Met Your Dad, replacing Krysta Rodriguez. In the vein of the original series, HIMYD tells the story from a female point of view, that of Sally (Greta Gerwig), and revolves around a new group of friends in New York. Sircar will play Juliet, Sally’s sexy and flamboyant best friend. The recasting, done after the pilot’s table read, was accompanied by some tweaking of the character, including giving Juliet a new workplace. Sircar was on CBS and 20th TV’s radar as she just wrapped an arc on the network and the studio’s freshman comedy series The Crazy Ones, playing Sarah Michelle Gellar’s assistant and Hamish Linklater’s love interest.

I'm sorry, but this will not survive for a whole season.

Spinoffs seem to have a higher cancellation rate. But if they keep the same formula as HIMYM it might have a chance.

    No, it's a spinoff.

It is a different show but, people are still going to associate it to HIMYM. And by the time this show airs (September, October) people will still be hangover from the end of HIMYM (in the good sense). I think it's too soon to do a spin-off. And without a major actor to pull the viewers interest (Greta's great sure, but not enough i'm afraid), i think it will flop.

  8. i think it will work. It's like "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation": same format, same authors, but totally different show

What? It's nothing like that. Parks and Rec. has nothing to do with The Office. In this case is very different. The show copies the name of the previous, the plot is the same, just change the characters, the backgrounds and the bar, and it is the same.

I could be wrong, and i hope i am. But i don't think so.

  10. Sally is such an awful name for a lead character.

  11. what the hell?? nothing with The Office?? are you kidding me?? it's the same show! Parks and The Office are basically the same show, with of course some differences...and HIMYM-HIMYD is the same concept

  12. So all re-imaginings and spiritual successors are spinoffs? House is a spinoff of Sherlock Holmes? Sherlock is a spinoff of House?

That just doesn't sound right to me.

Ok, so my explanation is over simplified. But House is inspired by the character Sherlock Holmes and the show Sherlock is a reinterpretation of many things that came before it. How I met your Dad is based off the idea of How I met your Mother and will include the same writers. Call it a spinoff or a reboot, whatever. The point is without the original How I met your Mother this wouldn't exist and its a similar but separate storyline that's not a retelling of a previous show.
