Hart of Dixie - Episode 3.15 - Ring of Fire - Review

29 Mar 2014

Some admittedly glacial progress was finally made in moving the plotline of Hart of Dixie forward in this week's episode.  I'll try to avoid going off on another rant about the lack of Zoe and Wade interaction of late, as that's getting into broken record territory.  But you know...there's that.  Yet with the dismissal of Enrique and Carter, and Joel going off to LA to work on the film adaptation of his novel, at least both Lemon and Zoe saw some forward motion going on.  And while this season does need a shot of adrenaline, HOD is always enjoyable in its plucky charms.  Let's discuss last night's episode!

Zoe and Joel had one of their least interesting plotlines yet, which was nicely complemented by Wade and Vivian having an even more boring one.  However, the best thing going in either of those stories this week was the freaking adorable baby goat that I want to snuggle.  At least Zoe had a few cute and funny moments in trying to get her Legally Blonde on to stop the Truitt brothers (who are okay comic relief, but not enough to fuel this central of a plot) from suing after Chicken was "injured" fixing her and Joel's home.

Truth be told, it does make my heart happy just to see a little of that sassy Lemon and Zoe repartee coming back.  The original DNA of the show was largely based on their rivalry/frenemy-ship, and it would be great to get some of those stories back into the show.  These ladies are hilarious together, and when the stakes turn dramatic (a la the past Lemon/George/Zoe triangle) it's always fascinating to watch as well.

The Cicada's Lament is getting the Hollywood treatment, and Joel will be gone for six months.  What was that I heard?  Was that the death knoll of "Zoel"? (and did that rhyme?)  Sounds good to me.  Now if only we could end the snoozefest known as Wade/Vivian.  Not even Rose could perk up that subplot...goat aside.

Lemon realized that she couldn't choose between Enrique and Carter because neither of them were right for her.  As much as I find Enrique hilarious and cute, Lemon's probably right that they'd run out of things to talk about once the novelty wore off.  And Carter's just boring.  It was Meatball who ruined the planned Renaissance Faire duel between Enrique and Carter, and Lavon who stepped in to rescue Lemon from a date with Meatball.  I do love, by the way, that the show is fourth-wall-breakingly noting the festival overload of Bluebell by having Lavon use a deluge of fests to distract him from his break-up woes.

Was that some Lavon/Lemon chemistry I saw bubbling up at the end there when the two danced?  Hmm.  Given the still-bitter tensions between Lavon and AnnaBeth, it's hard to know where this potential triangle may be headed.
(side-note: it bears repeating, Carl Winslow FTW.)

George, unfortunately, seems to have encountered yet another potential love interest in his dreaded stream of GSGF's (guest star girlfriends).  Ugghh.  I will grant opposing council that she was more coyly fun than the awful Tansy or the weird Lynly, but I'm past ready for the show to stop sidelining George with these GSGF's altogether.  Of course, maybe I'm wrong and we'll never see the lady lawyer again.  At least we got another funny Lilianne song sequence from this subplot: "unlucky Tucky."  Lilianne's the best.

(sidenote: I love it when AB makes this face [see above])

AnnaBeth is righteously frustrated with her own bad luck lately, mocking Lavon's absurd presumptions in thinking she would help him use Lemon's love triangle with Enrique and Carter to benefit his own agenda, "after everything we've been through."  She almost had to go on a date with Chicken to help Zoe and Joel resolve the potential lawsuit, which again showed how the townsfolk keep trying to take advantage of AB's kindness, though of course not maliciously.  However, it was nice to see the put-upon AnnaBeth get a little anonymous flirtation from the mysterious knight at the end of the episode.  Who do we think her secret admirer was?

Here are some of the funniest one-liners from the episode:

"You go on a boy cleanse.  Sorry, that was both uncalled for and too easy." -Lemon to Zoe

"...then we're like a tiger and an Indian boy in a very small boat." -Lemon on her relationship with Enrique

"Waitin' for a Man Named Chicken...The AnnaBeth Nass story." -AnnaBeth

"Wait!  Your honor, as famous attorney Elle Woods once said..." -Zoe

"I like to listen to '90's R and B when I'm preppin' for a trial." -George

Lemon: "If only I could put them in a blender and make a boyfriend smoothie."
Lavon: "I am so grateful that technology does not yet exist."

  3. Thanks for the review!
I really can't see any chemistry between Lemon and Lavon, I'm sad they broke up Annavon so early, would have loved to see more of them!

  5. Nice review! I liked the episode, it was better than most this season if I'm being honest. The lack of Zade is frustrating, and the shoving of Joel in my face is even more frustrating. But I think next week may be his last. I don't think he and Zoe will be able to make it work and they will end on good terms.
I definitely see the chemistry, and have been waiting on Lemon/Lavon reunion since the first episode. I really don't think AB/Lavon are a good match, I don't think they have a lot of chemistry and were pretty boring this season. I don't see them getting back together, especially after AB calling Lavon out on her not being the love of his life because I think Lemon is. And I'm really curious about this mystery man for AB.

I would like to see Wade and Zoe get back together. Lemon needs a new mystery man in her life, and forget about the other two.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I don't really know where to put my feelings about Lavon/Lemon and AB/Lavon; I think the show needs to show us where they're going with all that, soon. I think either couple was and would be cute, though Lemon/Lavon would be awkward for Lemon and AB's friendship. :)

Thanks! I agree that it was pretty telling that Lavon couldn't tell AB she was the love of his life. Wondering where they're going with the mystery man for AB too, that was a cool twist! I think she deserves a hot new guy, ha :)

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts! I also want Wade and Zoe back together ASAP. At this point, I'd settle for some shared screen-time for goodness sake :)

  10. I enjoyed reading your review. It took more than one viewing to find scenes I liked about 3x15. My favorite part was George confidently walking into the courtroom in full legal eagle mode. Another aspect of the show that I liked was that there were no PDAs from either Joel/Zoe or Wade/Vivian. As the season has gone on, Joel has been a cooperative and devoted boyfriend and will someday make another woman very happy, just not Zoe. However, as the season has gone on, Vivian has become more unlikeable and seemingly less interested in making her relationship with Wade work. He is doing the bulk of the work to make a go of them as a couple. If Vivian is as good as a mother as she is supposed to be, she should be guiding her son Harley in a more positive direction. As a teacher, she should be used to dealing with bratty children and recognize that her son is one.

  11. I think it would take some time for their friendship to get over that... AB said, that Lavon is the love of her life. If she doesn't find a new love of her life, I'd say she'd be very pissed off with Lemon.

At first I thought George and Zoe would stay together; but after she dated Wade, the story was so much more exciting:)
