Isaiah Washington is set to reprise his role as Cristina’s ex, Dr. Preston Burke, in one May episode, TVLine has learned.
“It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should,” said series creator Shonda Rhimes in a statement. “Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”

I'm still surprised, though. How often do characters actually leave GA alive...oops, I meant with closure regarding huge events that happened so long ago?

ReplyDeleteI think this is a bit of a poor move, considering the reason why he was fired from the show in the first place. I understand that he's issued an apology but it doesn't sit quite right with me. As much as I liked Izzie I would say the same if Katherine Heigl were announced to return, she trash talked the show so openly and I think both actors displayed unacceptable behaviour.

ReplyDeleteWHAT?! I was never much of a Burke fan but I think I like the idea of this. If Cristina wins the Harper Avery Award, which I'm sure she will, it makes since. It would make a lot of since to have Teddy on also since she is the one who really guided her in her final years as a resident. While Shonda's at it can we please have Izzie back too?

ReplyDeleteWow. Surprised, but glad. Sounds interesting. I thought Burke was a great character. I hope they do this well, with Cristina in a positive light, and closure for her, as opposed to how bad and angsty the show is written sometimes.

ReplyDeleteawsome idea, Shonda! while Burke's return would make a logical (and, hopefully, happy) closure for Christina, no good can come from Izzie's return, since Alex is finally starting to be happy, and the way she left...well, no good can come from that)
ReplyDeleteThat maybe true and I'm all for don't crap on the hands that feed you and what not but it's all about being professional and moving past that for the story. Obviously there are issues but we should to let that interfere with the story telling which matters te most

ReplyDeleteSee I can understand people wanting to put the story first but Burke returning seems a little shaky on those grounds too. I won't be happy if he returns so they can pair them up before she leaves, it would be way too artificial.

ReplyDeleteI don't think this will be the basis of his return. I think they may be going for the fellow harper avery award winners angle and maybe his part in her training as a surgeon. I understand where you're coming from but it's been 7 years. He was fired (and missed out on having the career longevity the show offered), he apologized, and he didn't trash talk the show like TR Knight and KH did after they left. Even after he was let go he continued to speak very highly of Sandra Oh and said he continued to watch the show because of her. One of the many themes of the show is forgiveness. I glad Shonda is practicing what she preaches.

ReplyDeleteI don't think Addison had it what it takes to be Alex's girlfriend. I realy like Jo, she's perfect match) And, as much as I love Owen-Christina couple and was realy sad every time they broke apart, I think personality-wise Burke was a perfect macth for Christina.
