The Walking Dead – Episode 4.11– Claimed – Preview : Lucky Guy

23 Feb 2014

Since The Walking Dead is back from its winter hiatus, it has really shown signs of improvement. I can see now Scott Gimple’s touch and where he wants to take the show. As a new showrunner, he had to tie up the loose ends (aka The Governor, the prison, Rick’s behavior) before starting new storylines and developing its characters.
So now that Brian / Philip / whatever his name is dead, the prison is destroyed and Rick came back to his senses, the show can finally evolve, along with its characters. I’ve really been waiting for some characters to reveal themselves more, to open up to the others and for some other characters I just wish they could understand how stupid they acted or they could just die.
But my wait has finally paid ! Now, there are some major character developments, the survivors’ reactions and actions feel more sensible and understandable. Since “After”, I’m feeling even more involved with those characters and I really care about their fates.

If you enjoyed “After” and “Inmates”, then “Claimed” won’t disappoint you. The character developments started will continue, there will be great zombies kills and a very suspenseful and tense situation for one character that I’m particularly fond of. I always love those scenes where you really fear someone you like will die, you don’t see how they can get out of there…
The characters are still trying to survive, lost in the woods, looking for a shelter, threatened by walkers that can come up at any time. But zombies are not the only threat to our beloved survivors…. Of course, just surviving without water and/or food can be dangerous, but there is something that poses even more a threat than walkers, and it’s people. What to do when you meet strangers has always been a theme in The Walking Dead, and this week it will be explored again. Those new people can be allies or enemies, it depends on lot of things but first, your personal attitude is key to start a relationship in good terms.

So, what you can expect from “Claimed” :

• in the comics, Abraham is a badass and has great fighting skills. Well, we'll discover he's the same in "Claimed". The guy has great strenght and abilities to fight. You don't want to be the one he punches.
• Carl found a new BFF ! It is fun, the boy deserved to have a close friend and it looks like he's finally getting one. They will play games, like "play walker" which is so funny, I was laughing out loud watching it, and an even better game to get to know each other. It's a simple game, you just have to ask one question but to ask the question, you need to do something first. It's a clever game. It's a great scene, very well written.
• Lonely not so lonely... One of the characters will find itself alone, and it's never a good idea to be isolated when walkers are all around. It's always harder to survive alone... Is the best way to live to hide and wait or run and shot ?
• Classified ! One the character has a classified information that we all want to know. Of course, it won't be revealed soon but the simple fact that the information is out there is very satifying for me. We'll finally know more about.... I'm not saying more !
• In "Claimed", we will mainly follow two groups of survivors, one of the group will have to fight off walkers and the other groups is going to have to fight other people in order to survive. I really like the parallelism between those two groups, everyone can be a mortal ennemy in this world, walker or human.
• Someone will act pretty dumb around a truck. When it's the apocalypse, and you're lucky enough to have a truck, you just don't do what this characters will do. It's incredibly stupid, but it's good for the story...
• Train tracks ! They are now very important in the season 4B, and we will see them again this week. One group of survivors will find them and follow them of course. Guess soon enough they will find Carol, Tyreese and the kids ! Can't wait to see that reunion.
New characters from the comics are being introduced. We all knew last week about Abraham, but there are also two new characters. It's their first introduction, so it still unclears how they will evolve.

And don’t miss an all new The Walking Dead in the UK on Monday, Feb. 24 at 9pm on FOX and FOX HD, and in the US this Sunday at 9pm on AMC.

  3. So I guess Lizzie will become Carls BFF (and maybe more). That would make the end of this season more darker. But it even would make it more interesting if Carl gets a crush on Lizzie before recognizing that she is a dangerous Psychopath.

  4. I really hope this Abraham guy isn't another "he pretends to be a good guy but really is bad guy" character

  5. Well, you'll find out this Sunday.

I think Carl already knows Lizzie is a total pyscho....

  6. I don't think they're gonna make Lizzie Carl's BFF. It just doesn't fit or sound like a good plot decision. And i have faith that Scott Gimple didn't do that.

  7. I don't think he's pretending to be anything, the guy is just the way he is.

  8. At the end of the day abraham is a good guy. Just wait and see

  9. He`s a good guy, with a real purpose for something else than power.

  10. Aww I hope Carl gets a proper BFF and not one of the girls. Kid deserves something nice and normal poor bugger.

I hope the characters catch a break for a few episodes and our new guys in the army truck are good guys so they can regroup and heal before having another all out human war. As much as its necessary and I get it the one thing I hate about the show is the humans.. I'd like to think in a zombie war zone people would stick together rather than kill each other. Bad enough you can't relax because of the zombies but to not even trust a fellow human being to do something as simple as not kill you must suck so bad.

  11. I don't think Lizzie will be Carls BFF. . Abraham just acts like that. He's a good guy.

  12. Great preview and this sounds like a great episode. I'm so glad Michonne and Carl are back this week! There are so many things that I want to see! I really want to see the "play walker" game and who does the dumb thing by the truck. I also want to know who has the tense moment. So many things to look forward to, but I mostly just hope that they continue to develop great characters like Michonne and Daryl.

  13. I love Michonne and Carl's bond. That's awesome to see developing. I think she might be the "new BFF", which I love.

I have mixed feelings about the new characters but I'm going to give them a chance before I decide, since they were in the comic.

Glenn was so awesome last week, can't wait for more of him.

But I'm going to miss Carol in this ep since I don't think she appears. She just made it back and suddenly she's gone again. :/ Hopefully something in the promo at least.

  14. I'm guessing Carl's new BFF will be Michonne, since I don't see them meeting up with anyone from Team Prison or any other survivors just yet and him be able to form a friendship with one of them.

  15. I have a friend who swears -- *swears* -- that the character segments in "Inmates" were shown out of order for a reason. My friend thinks that the final zombie Maggie put down on the bus was actually Glenn. I've got to agree that the makeup guys sure went out of their way to make it resemble Glenn (at least from the back). But I saw part of an interview with Greg Nicotero where he said "Maggie was relieved" Glenn wasn't there.

Still though, what an awesome theory -- I would absolutely hate to see Glenn go, but what a HUGE gut-punch to the fans (and to Maggie) if that last bus-zombie ended up being her husband after all !! I'm not too excited about all these new characters, but the 4b writing so far has been fantastic. So I'm really looking forward to catching up with our regular characters on this week's episode.

  16. Why ? They're about the same age, they lived the same things, that can be a solid groudn for friendship.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah but that is in human nature. Since the beginin of humanity, there has been conflicts, agressions, wars.... But I agree with you, I thought in a terrible world like that, people would stick together and help each other. But how can you trust someone and be sure he won't betray you ?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks :) The episode is really awesome !

  19. I'm not sure about Glenn being a zombie and already killed by Maggie. The fact that the zombie looked like Glenn was just a way to make Maggie, and us, feared it was actually him. I don't think they would kill off Glenn just like that. If Glenn dies, I bet Maggie will be by his sides so it'd be a powerful and emotional scene, just like Lori's death.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, that's what I hope too -- I think after four seasons of zombies, the characters (and the viewers) need all the hope we can get! For me, Glenn, Maggie, and Beth are the voice of Hershel carried forward, and the love Glenn shares with Maggie is one of the hopeful elements of the show. I personally think the show *needs* them both to keep those glimmers of hope alive -- so needless to say, I totally hope my friend is wrong!!! :)

  21. Great preview Romain! Thank you!

  22. i think it's michonne. i heard lizzie won't be on this episode. just 2 groups - rick, carl and michonne, and glenn, tara, abraham, rosita, eugene

    ReplyDelete
  23. yeah i think it's michonne too because i read spoilers that they go on a run for supplies together and share stories about their past. rick stays behind to rest and intruders come in the house - so he's the one that will be fighting humans

    ReplyDelete
  24. I so agree, its about time we got some hope. The end game of the entire show (or even the comics if the writer is taking notes) is to find an antidote, something to stop you turning when you die. I have no idea how long the comics go on for but I'd love the last season to be about that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, that is why they are all surviving, and why they are still alive, it's the hope that someday they will find a cure or something and they could have a safer life.
I think hope is key to survive, without it, you are lost.

  26. They each look at the walkers differently though. Carl knows they're dangerous and doesn't mind killing them. Lizzie hasn't ever killed a walker and she sympathizes with them going as far as naming them like pets. Carl and Lizzie have already had words once (30 Days Without An Accident). I don't see them being friends ever. They might be the same age and they might be living through the same thing but they're completely different when it comes to the walkers. Usually opposites attract but I don't think so in this situation.

  27. If he's anything like his comic book counterpart then he'll be a good guy but who knows. As of today he's the only deceased member of the trio in the comics to date.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The walker Maggie killed on the bus wasn't wearing riot gear. I agree with Romain that the writers wanted us to believe it was Glenn.

  29. I'm enjoying the second half of season 4 so much. The first half was good but the prison had ran its course with me. The last episode (Too Far Gone) though was my favorite. The characters are searching for hope and we as viewers are also filled with hope that each group will find each other. We're all tuning in each week to see Maggie find Glenn and Daryl find Carol. I can't wait for Rick and Carl to find out that Judith is still alive. As for the new characters (Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita) they worry me. In the comics they were friends but Abraham's last words worried me ("You got a damn mouth on you......what else you got?") The what else you got statement makes me worry they're thieves out to steal from other survivors like The Governor. As for Carl's BFF who knows. Most believe it'll be Michonne but maybe they'll meet up with Abraham's group and he'll befriend Eugene. I think Rick will be the character left alone. He's still too weak to help out and I see Michonne and Carl leaving him alone to scavenge but whilst he's alone he'll encounter walkers. I think Tara will be the one to do something dumb by the truck. She's a ditz at times. She'd be the type to flick a lit cigarette onto a gas tank lol. Lastly I can't decide on who'll find the tracks. I know Rick and Carl's house is near train tracks but Beth and Daryl have already found them but they went the wrong way. I guess we'll see and I can't wait.

  32. Abe's the best. I am so happy he's finally in the show.

  33. It was established in the first half that Carl and Lizzie don't see the world the same way. I can't imagine they'd bond on any level after that.

Romain, you probably can't answer this with finality, but there's a Facebook page claiming the killer of Karen and David is revealed tomorrow. Already knowing Carol isn't in this episode, I doubt it, my personal guess is IF this is even close to true Rick reveals it to Michonne and/or Carl.

Oh, I think Eugene has the classified information and it has to do either with how this all started or how it might be able to be stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm with you guys -- I think the makeup people made that walker resemble Glenn to fake us out at first. But I also clearly saw Maggie looking both relieved ("it wasn't him") and crushed ("he's not here") at the end of that scene. Plus I heard Greg Nicotero confirm it. So I told my friend I think (and hope) he's totally wrong !! :)

Speaking of fake-outs, though, I agree with some of the folks on this thread that we haven't heard the whole truth on what happened to Karen and David -- and personally, I'm doubting that Carol was 100% responsible. Wondering if she's covering for a certain unhinged pre-teen ... and hoping we'll find out more of the story this week!

  36. That's grue, but maybe Lizzie changed. Inside the prison, she did'nt get the danger the Wallers represent. But since she was attacked in the prison and now she is surviving outsider, maybe she changer. Carl at first was acting stupid around Wallers and it killed Dale.
So maybe Carl and Lizzie can bond afterall

    ReplyDelete
  37. Little teaser: He'll have a conversation with Tara that will give us a vague idea about what kind of man he is.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't think she's changed though. As I said earlier she's one of the few characters with more human kills than walker kills. She viciously murdered the rabbits (sign of a serial killer) and she ignored the approaching walkers as she was smothering Judith.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You may be right about Lizzie killing Karen and David and I'll admit deep down I've had my suspicions about that but I don't know. It's possible she murdered them and Carol discovered her deed and helped her drag their bodies outside to burn them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. In the comics Eugene claimed he was a scientist when in reality he wasn't. The trio was on their way to Washington D.C. for answers. Eugene claimed he knew what caused the outbreak blah blah blah when in reality he was just a high school science teacher all along. His intelligence comes in handy though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lizzie is obviously changing since the beginning of the season. She is becoming a full-Psychopath.

But the connection between Carl and Lizzie could be that Carl admires Lizzie for having saved Tyreese by killing two people. At the beginning of the season Carl saw Lizzie just as a stupid child. Now she could appear to him as a brave survivor. Although Lizzie is not able anymore to develop human feelings she could have a way of "desire" for Carl because of his strength.

But even if they should be attracted to each other this season will surely still not have a happy end for them. If he feels something for Lizzie the obvious end of this story will change Carl even more. (And we know: In the Comics Carl and Ben had a friendship. That they introduced the series-counterpart as a female character is maybe not a coincidence.)

    ReplyDelete
  42. can't wait for the new episode hopefully they kill that Lizzie off soon I got a sad feeling she is gonna kill her sister because I know thinks changed from the show from the comic but just got a feeling like it was with comic evil twin ben she is gonna kill her own sister

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's what I think (or at least suspect) -- it seems to me Lizzie would be much too small to drag those bodies. But I'm wondering if she killed them, and then Carol found out and dragged the bodies outside as an attempt to cover it up by burning them. Then again, may I'm totally wrong! But it does seem like the rat-feeding and/or dissected animals at the prison could have been Lizzie's doing.
