“Farewell to Storyville ” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

TRAPPED IN THE CITY OF THE DEAD — Despite Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) rage, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is determined to protect Rebekah (Claire Holt) while the three of them are trapped in the City of the Dead cemetery by a witch’s boundary spell. Klaus and Rebekah trade bitter accusations until Elijah steps in to reveal a long-held secret from the family’s past. Meanwhile, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) races to free Rebekah, ultimately finding himself forced to make a deal with Genevieve (guest star Elyse Levesque). Finally, Rebekah and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) connect over their shared concern for Hayley’s unborn baby. Jesse Warn directed the episode written by Michael Narducci (#116).

  1. Another boundary spell?

Unless the secret is that the rest of the Originals aren't really dead after all I can't imagine I'm going to really care about it.

Why is Hayley always connecting with Elijah or Rebekah? It's not their child - it's Klaus & Hayley's. I think Hayley needs to be talking to Klaus about the baby - not Rebekah.

  2. I'm guessing Klaus found out the secret Rebekah was hiding. This synopsis doesn't make it seem like the most exciting episode but at least we get some Rebekah/Hayley screen time out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Why is that burden on Hayley? Klaus has shown little to no interest in the child since the series started. He's the father so maybe he should act like it. If he wants to be involved with the child and the pregnancy maybe he could start by, I dunno... asking Hayley about the child once in a while.

  4. I honestly think the only reason Klaus never has scenes with Hayely is Julie is trying so hard to push Hayley/Elijah so she wants Klaus out of the way for that. Hayley's main function on the show is to be Elijah's love interest at this point.

Klaus was talking to Hayley while Elijah was daggered - it was only once Elijah came back into the picture that they more or less never interact. Klaus has talked about the baby previously with Elijah & Marcel but Hayley has made it pretty clear that she hates Klaus and only likes Elijah so I think Klaus may have just given up trying.

  5. Klaus had a few short one-on-one scenes with Hayley. It's not like Klaus was a real chatty Kathy with his baby mama while his brother was in that box. As for the idea of Klaus giving up trying, when has that ever happened with Klaus? This is the same guy who held a vendetta against Katherine for hundreds of years. Klaus doesn't just shrug his shoulders and give up on anything.

    ReplyDelete
  6. He gave up his vendetta against Tyler after a few months. He obviously never had any plans to kill Katherine (or else why would have let her go free at the end of Season 2?) and when he first showed up in Mystic Falls he said something to her along the lines of "then I slaughtered your family so I guess we'll cool". He's obviously given up on the hybrids as well (he didn't even try to see if he could make more with Katherine's blood).

  7. He didn't give up his vendetta. He defeated him. He completely demoralized Tyler and made him feel like a useless pile of dirt. Klaus didn't give up. He won. As for Katherine, of course he didn't have plans to kill her. Too easy. It's the torment and the constant fear he was after, which he accomplished exceedingly well.

  8. I'm not sure how he can take an active part in the life of someone who hasn't been born yet. There's not really anything he can do right now since the child hasn't been born. He's tried to save the life of the child (1x04 when Rebekah told him about the witches trying to kill Hayley he showed up to save her, he did agree to Sophie's deal to keep the baby safe, he told the vampires to go ahead and kill the werewolves because he thought without the threat of hybrids the vampires wouldn't want to kill the child, etc...) but I'm not sure what else there is for him to do.

  9. "I'm not sure how he can take an active part in the life of someone who hasn't been born yet."
Really? You're trying to tell me that expectant fathers have nothing to prepare for or to do for their child during a pregnancy? I think the book publishing industry and most reputable medical associations would strongly disagree with you.

  10. I have to admit I'm very impressed. We rarely see eye to eye but I like your attention to detail in your argument. Good job.

  11. We haven't seen any of that from Hayley either though. We've never seen her consult an actual doctor (there was that bayou doctor that she went to - but it was a trap and she hasn't been to once since) or do anything to prepare for the baby. Instead Hayley continues to run towards danger (she was told a witch dessicated Rebekah - what did she think she would be able to do if she ran into him other than die?).

  12. Ha! It's an ideological eclipse. Once every 75 years or so our positions on a given topic will converge. Very rare indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  13. None of that excuses or negates Klaus' seeming lack of interest and involvement with the baby. Pointing the finger at Hayley and basically saying "but she's not doing anything" doesn't add up to a point in Klaus' favor.

  14. It sounds like a bottle episode. In TVD it would completely suck, here I can see it being a good episode.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I also thought it seemed like a bottle episode from the description. It won't completely be a bottle episode with Marcel out there running around but I'll be interested to see how this one turns out.

  16. Klaus has done many progress with this baby... and even with Hayley come on how many other had advice from him? During 1x11 he was caring for Hayley a little bit, but she helped her. I think they are forcing too much Hayley/Elijah and they are ruining Elijah I don't like it, Hayley is six months pregnant Elijah came back when? 3 months before? He is a deep person, he is chaming and he fall for her in such a little time??? I can't understand. This need to have one or two scene in EVERY episode of them. IT's pointless.
And Klaus and Hayley can't even talk.
Somebody remember the end of ep 1.02 ? that scene with Klaus in Hayley bedroom? I don't ask for epic love but come on it's getting weird at this point. They are the parents. Not Elijah.

    ReplyDelete
  17. So because he's kinda nice once in awhile Hyaley is supposed to forget that Klaus is indeed mostly a dick? Becasue bereaking news: HE IS.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There is a lot for him to do actually. But that's the probleme with Klaus and Klaus's apologists they always blame other people for his shortcomings.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Many advices? Come on, i know Klaus fans like to praise every little good things he does becasue after all there aren't that many of them. But he has been decent to hayley maybe 3 times since the start of the show and people act as if she should get on her knees and worship him for it.
Hayley and him are parents who don't partucularly like each other and let be honest aren't especially mature. In a perfect world they should get along better and talk more, but neither of them would win parent of the year anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Then why did she sleep with him? If she hates him so much why did she hit on him and then sleep with him? Because I'm pretty sure (if I'm remembering correctly) that Hayley initiated the sex. It's not like she didn't know who he was before she hopped into bed with him.

  21. I didn't explin myself so well. I mean Klaus doesn't often show his soft side to many people. He did with Hayley. I don't ask for lovely scene or anything like that.
But it's strange Klaus connect about the baby with Elijah and Marcel. Hayley with Rebekah and Elijah.. and Elijah and Elijah.
    after 13 episodes I think it's weird.
I loved tha scene at the end of episode 1.02 between Klaus/Hayley they don't need o have a perfect relationship but a simple chat? reading this preview if something is going on with the baby why can't it be a moment for them? They aren't mature I agree but If we look closely to their story Hayley is so many things in common with Klaus not Elijah.
I hope all this "love" Elijah is showing (not with some logic for me) is because she is carrying a baby who can save his family... because honestly Elijah doesn't know so much about Hayley.

    ReplyDelete
  22. all these "noble" things is getting so boring to me. I miss Elijah we saw in season 2 of TVD.

  23. Klaus doesn't have any scenes with Hayley because the klaroliners whining and trashing was so bad Julie had to throw Phoebe into the most unreaslistic weird romance ever with Elijah just to stop fans from calling her moon moon. Unfortunately it meant throwing Leah Pipes under bus because Klaus can't go on without romantic interest, so now she is called granny pants or grandma or some other derogatory term. If klamille is cancelled and Klaus is put with any other female then she will be the one receving all the hate. No matter what female is with Klaus she will end up trashed and called names.
As for Klaus not playing perfect husband and a father i think it's completely in character for him. He doesn't even treat his siblings nice, and he is not making any steps towards them to rebuild relationships so why would he be nice to some girl who made it clear she won't be be okay with him treating her like crap. Hayley would probably try to be decent with him if she didn't have Elijah in her corner. She would be forced to. But Elijah crushing on her gives her confidence so she is standing her ground. I hope once the baby is born Haylijah won't stand in the way of Klaus being the father. I want to get lots of scenes with him holding the baby, feeding it, singing lullaby and maybe making a small progress towards becoming a man he once was. But if it's elijah who will end up doing all these things i will seriously reconsider being such a devoted fan of TO.
I am so looking forward to Klaus and Rebekah and Elijah showdown. It's going to be so messed up. Marcel is probably going to get unscathed since there is no word on klaus chasing him all over the city. That's disappointing.
Rebekah and Hayley friendship is doing nothing for me. I feel like they are only throwing these scenes in ther because phoebe and Clare want to hang out together on set.
Elijah is going to reveal a huge family secret. Oh yes i can't even begin to imagine what it will be. I want him to start having other storylines besides being a LI for Hayley.

  24. I'm not disagreeing with most of this. What i don't get is why people acting Hayley somewhow HAS to like Klaus because once in awhile he doesn't act like a total douche.

There haven't been that many scenes about the baby in general, for me it's obvious there will be more closer the birth. The show dropped the witches for several episodes, the werewolf too. When they go back to the baby as major plot and not only plot device i think Klaus and Hayley will share scenes.

  25. I I don't think Hayley is even half as naive as Caroline and Elena. And i believe that it's first and foremost Klaus' personality that Hayley doesn't like, the fact he's controlling and throws temper tantrums when things don't go his ways among other things. The mass murdering probably comes at the 5th place or something of things she doesn't like about Klaus. In 1x03 she told him being diabolical has its perks, so obviously she isn't too mad about him killing people. When she does gets upset it's when his ways directly affect people she cares about like when he bit Elijah in the Bayou and when he ordered the wolf hunting.

  26. This show is awesome. Ratings are up and fans are watching. Regardless of what we all think about the characters, the writers are amazing storytellers. I am anxious to see where they go with the Marcel making a new deal with Genevieve. It cannot be good. She has a vendetta against Marcel and Rebekah and any deal with her can only lead to a disaster. But it looks as if Marcel is desperate; most likely worried about Klaus going after Rebekah. The secret that Elijah holds must be dear one to his heart that will put some thought into Klaus/Rebekahs mind about the vendetta towards each other. I imagine Klaus is trying to bite Rebekah. LOL. Fantastic. I can hardly wait to see how this story unfolds.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I thought think it is about the other originals. It reads the secret if from the past. So I imagine it is from the time that they were human. I am so intrigued. I can hardly wait. Whatever it is; it is very important and dear to Elijah's heart. The reveal he feels will convict Klaus/Rebekah to stop the fighting and remember that they are family, that they must forgive and move forward.

  28. Can Klaus NOT be romantically paired with anyone?? At least for one half of one season. That's all I ask. FFS the show just started and already he needs a love interest to redeem him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can see Klaus and Rebekah going at it and Elijah trying to keep everyone civil. I hope the "long-held secret" is a juicy one, if someone felt the need to mention it in a synopsis. It has to be if it's going to stop Klaus and Rebekah from fighting, or possibly divert their attention. The secret is from the family's past, not necessarily something that the entire family knows. Elijah probably knows something that Klaus and Rebekah don't. Maybe Elijah has a major secret of his own, and he'll get pushed into exposing it. It's crazy, I was just thinking earlier that there might be more to the Mikaelson family's past, on one subject in particular, than we've seen on TVD.

I don't see how any good could come from Hayley and Rebekah bonding. I understand Rebekah's point of view if she fears for the baby's welfare, but it's not smart of her to get too close to Hayley. It looks like the Crescent curse will be lifted, and when that happens, Hayley will certainly choose the werewolves over the baby's family. Rebekah is also known for betrayal. It's hard to say if Klaus will become a threat to the baby. It's been said that he could take or leave an "heir," and he just wants to run the city. If someone else becomes a threat to the baby and Klaus has to choose between the baby and the city, he might stop wanting to protect the baby. I don't think Klaus' problem is that he doesn't love the baby. I think it's that he doesn't want to have a baby with Hayley. It's also possible that he's not ready to be a father. It's no one's fault because no one knew he could have children when he got drunk and slept with Hayley, but now there's a baby caught in the middle. Not a good situation.

Marcel making a deal with Genevieve to save Rebekah sort of concerns me. If Rebekah is the only one who escapes imprisonment and decides to leave Klaus behind, Elijah will have to choose between the two of them. It won't be pretty. Then again, Marcel might just offer to trade himself in as a captive to take Rebekah's place. Their relationship is confusing. I can't figure out if Marcel is manipulating her because he wants to be back in power, or if he's actually in love with her. It could be both.

  30. Ok i have one question of this supernatural baby since episode one... is the baby going to be, a quarter witch, quarter human, quater werewolf and a quarter vampire right¿? that`s going to be a hell of a baby D:

    ReplyDelete
  31. I actually found it odd that Elijah didn't kill Gevevieve. Wasn't he all "I'm going to kill them all" in the last episode? Why would he let the witch that tortured his sister go?

    ReplyDelete
  32. But there was also that scene in the bayou when Elijah made some comment about how he shouldn't have assumed the worst (regarding the baby) to Hayley (instead of Klaus) and that both he and Rebekah were awful too and Hayley was just like "Don't ever compare yourself to Klaus - he's horrible and you're nothing like that".

    ReplyDelete
  33. I doubt it. Klaus probably won't even be there for the birth - there will probably be something else going on and he'll be off saving the city/people. Julie will probably use that scene to force Haylijah because one again Klaus will be doing the dirty work and Elijah will be there with Hayley (just like how Klaus went after Agnes to try to save the baby while Elijah stayed home to hold Hayley and console her).

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't see why she would talk to him, he treats her like garbage and she's not exactly his greatest fan either. Klaus even went as far as trying to murder her family. If Klaus wants to connect with Hayley and the baby, the ball is in his court.
