UPDATED 9.2.14 - This has now been confirmed by Charlotte Moore, the BBC 1 Controller (cheers to Tiger_Lily for the info)

Many thanks to Bailey for the heads up

There is no confirmation from the BBC as yet, this is the only source we have seen, but we have no reason to doubt it at present :)

Czech Anglo Productions are delighted to announce that the 2nd series of "The Musketeers" has today been green lit to shoot in Prague with Prep due to begin next week for a further 10 episodes.

Congratulations to everyone on our fabulous crew for all the hard work done last year to make this possible, and now to do it all over again!!

  1. Fantastic news, indeed. Just thought I'd add what seemed to me to be the most direct tweet to follow the announcement - and hope this is not an elaborate prank they are conspiring to play on us. ;)

  3. I imagine that the BBC will probably have something out in the morning, they can be a little slow in getting organised at times, lol.

  4. So relieved :) From some of the other comments on viewing figures I've read I was worried it wouldn't be renewed. This is one of the best dramas I've seen the BBC produce (and my favourite adaptation of 'The Three Musketeers'). I feel like given more time (and after it's airing in America), it has the potential the become a massive hit for the BBC.

  5. Cool. Source looks pretty official to me, but will be looking forward to announcements from BBC.

  6. YES! I hope this will be confirmed soon! I'm excited!!!!

  7. Does anyone else find it strange that BBC One has yet to announce the renewal? It's been a few days already. And if pre-production starts next week, shouldn't BBC One already announce it?

  8. I know I'll feel a lot better when it's actually official. I find it stranger (or more concerning) that none of the actors have tweeted about it even (and I'm not even on twitter, but I had to check... just to check). I've seen a few news releases about it, but they all refer back to the same announcement from Czech Anglo Productions. No real reason to doubt it but, I'll feel better when there is another formal confirmation that we're getting a series 2.

  9. In terms of the actors, they are honestly not able to confirm UNTIL BBC One does. So their silence is a given. It's already Friday. And still no official news from BBC One? That's odd. I guess we'll know once pre-production will start next week. And yes, no reason to doubt this source. They seem very legit. We can ask them on facebook, though, as to why BBC One hasn't announced it yet. Perhaps, they'll reply. They seemed to have answered a few fan questions on facebook.

  10. Yes - that's actually what I meant. They're not able to confirm until BBC One. If BBC One had given their official approval/backing of Czech Anglo Production's announcement, but was just slow or delayed getting their own official statement out, there would more out there. It makes it feel as though the statement isn't backed by BBC, and the delay of any discourse regarding it just makes me wonder.

  11. I'm guessing that's it's a casting issue that's possibly holding things up on the BBC end, most likely the replacing of Capaldi. They do tend to like to have everything in place before they announce anything and do things in their own time.

  12. Very true. Thanks. :)

  18. Awesome news. I can't wait to see how they twist the story once Cardinal Richlieu can no longer be the main baddie.
