Scene Of The Week - February 9, 2014 - POLL

9 Feb 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

ARROW, "Heir to the Demon", February 5, 2014, Actors: Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy and more
The Scenes: Oliver bans his mother from his life & Laurel throws Sara out of the apartment & Oliver's speech about Moira & Oliver tells Felicity she won't lose him
Daniel van der Veer:
There were a lot of great moments in this week's Arrow, from Sara nearly dying to Felicity revealing part of her backstory, but for me the biggest one was Oliver banning his mother. Although he might have overreacted a little, I think he has quite a good point that his mother has been doing nothing but telling lies. Both Stephen Amell and Susanna Thompson were great in this scene.
Virginia Fontana: Laurel's angry tirade after finding out that Sara is still alive. Completely the opposite of how I expected her to react, but understandable from her perspective. I'm still glad Laurel knows the truth now.
Bradley Adams: Oliver tries to give his speech, words failing him, before telling his mother he knows about Thea. Such a fantastic scene. It's always fun when characters have an emotion but have to show the complete opposite one not to reveal any problems.
Jamie Coudeville: Oliver tells Felicity she won't lose him.

BANSHEE, "The Truth About Unicorns", February 7, 2014, Actors: Antony Starr, Ivana Miličević and more
The Scene: Hood and Carrie fight with the sniper
Sharon Seymour:
The Sniper takes out the FBI agent and Hood and Carrie fight back and kill the sniper.
Also picked by DarkUFO

CASTLE, "Dressed to Kill", February 3, 2014, Actor: Stana Katic
The Scene: Kate, in the wedding dress, stands in front of the mirror
Diana Mack:
Kate looks at herself in the mirror wearing the wedding dress; she looks sad and melancholic, I guess she's thinking about her mom and how much she wanted her to be next to her. Also picked by Virginia Fontana

CRIMINAL MINDS, "200 (Part II)", February 5, 2014, Actors: A. J. Cook and more
The Scene: The reunion in the bar
Klutzy girl:
The scene where everybody reunited in the bar with JJ after she was found. It was so nice to see everybody together again. I thought it was a sweet scene.

HELIX, "Aniqatiga", February 7, 2014, The Scene: The virus grows into some spiky metallic organism
Sharon Seymour:
Scene in the lab where they inject the virus with some solution and it grows into some spiky metallic organism.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, "Sunrise", February 3, 2014, Actors: Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders
The Scene: Ted lets Robin go
Pablozky21:
After 9 years of chasing the wrong girl, and suffering a lot for it, Ted finally understood that letting go the things that you love doesn't mean that you stop loving them, it's the exact same opposite, because you love them you are willing to let them go so that they, and you, can be happy. It took him a lot of time, but I think it's pretty clear that now Ted understands love a little bit better: it's not one sided, it's mutual, and Robin would have never been able to give him back what he gave to her, that's why he obsessed, but by letting her go Ted may now find the true woman that he deserves, The Mother, who also needs to let go of someone (Max's ghost).

JUSTIFIED, "Shot All to Hell", February 4, 2014, Actors: Michael Rapaport, Walton Goggins
The Scene: Darryl Crowe waits for Boyd in his bar
Geo N:
The scene with Darryl Crowe (Michael Rappaport) in Boyd's bar waiting for Boyd. Then Boyd (Walton Goggins) enters pretending to be someone else to figure out exactly what Darryl wants. A great scene with two equally great actors filled with suspense and great and funny lines.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "T.R.A.C.K.S.", February 4, 2014, Actors: Ming-Na Wen and more
The Scene: May fights off her captors (picked by Jamie Coudeville)

NCIS, "Monsters and Men", February 4, 2014, Actors: Mark Harmon, Emily Wickersham, Karan Oberoi
The Scene: Parsa is killed
Daniel van der Veer:
Finally, Parsa dies. Up until now, he has been a big part of the season, especially in the two-part premiere and in the last three episodes. He has done a lot of damage to the team, from killing SecNav to paralyzing Delilah. So it was good for the entire team that Parsa died. For Vance, for McGee, for Ellie, Gibbs, Tony and, well, I think even for Ziva.

NEW GIRL, "Prince", February 2, 2014, Actors: Zooey Deschanel, Prince
The Scene: Prince trains Jess to say "I love you" to Nick
Pablozky21:
The whole sequence where Prince trains Jess to say "I love you" to Nick- New Girl's third season hasn't been as stellar as season 2, it has been mostly ok, but in the past two weeks the show has finally got its groove back and delivered very poignant or funny moments. This scene is one of the funniest moments New Girl has had in a while, taking advantage of its guest star and his image, making all kinds of joke around that; a pointless ping pong match, a trained butterfly coming to Prince's shoulder, and my personal favorite: Prince trapping Jess in the elevator. Prince: "I said don't be scared" turns off the lights and then turns them on again "Boo", Jess: "AHHHHH". That's genius, I have to say I absolutely loved the post Superbowl episode New Girl had.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Provenance", February 4, 2014, Actors: Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson and more, The Scene: The end scene
Bradley Adams:
Nice to see. Carter's death is still hard hitting, even 3 months later. Also picked by DarkUFO

REIGN, "Inquisition", February 6, 2014, Actors: Adelaide Kane, Megan Follows, Torrance Coombs and more, The Scene: Catherine tries to kill Mary
Justyna Kubica:
This show continues to surprise me, in a very positive way, especially the last few episodes which I enjoyed much better than I expected. It seems strange, because at first I didn't even plan to watch the show (main problem being the triangle aspect of the series, which happens to be one of my least favorite things on TV), but few weeks after it premiered, thanks to some recommendations I read, I decided to check it out and I haven't regretted it since. This week's focus was Catherine. She's quite a fascinating character and the actress who portrays her, does a wonderful job. I have to admit, even after many of her schemes to kill Mary and Bash, I didn't see her actually trying to drown Mary by herself coming. The desperation, the brutality and the honesty in her behavior took me completely by surprise. And then another good twist, when Clarissa shows up, not only saving Mary, but also revealing herself as the Queen's daughter! I'm impressed. Also I loved the part where Bash shows up, helps his fiancé and orders the guards to take Catherine away, calling her an animal, who deserves to be chained up. I think it was the first time since he became the Regent when he took control like that. And as if that wasn't good enough, Mary's words to the Queen were perfectly delivered. Great performances by the actors, really good writing, can't wait to see more.

TEEN WOLF, "Silverfinger", February 3, 2014, Actors: Dylan O'Brien, Melissa Ponzio and more
The Scenes: The Stiles reveal at the end & Stiles calls Melissa "Mom"
Justyna Kubica:
I honestly do not know which one of these scenes I liked best. They're both really great for different reasons. Stiles calling Melissa "mom" was heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, all things considered. It was a very emotional, poignant moment. But, since it's already mentioned by another member of the team, I can easily go with the scene where Stiles is revealed to be possesed by a dark spirit and pretty much destroys a couple of the creatures (The Oni) looking for him. Now, that's a powerful twist. I mean, I'm sure, most of us guessed something is definitely wrong with Stiles, especially after last week's episode, but still, this was brilliantly done. And since Stiles is my favorite on the show I'm definitely glad to see him getting an interesting storyline. I just love the potential it has. Not to mention the fact that whenever Dylan O'Brien gets a chance to shine he takes it. His performance is spot on and I am very much impressed by his acting skills. This kind of ending for an episode is exactly the right way to make people really excited for next episode. I can't even tell you how much I can't wait to see it. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
Klutzy girl: Stiles calls Melissa "Mom". I love their relationship and Melissa's reaction. And hopefully this family becomes official soon! Also picked by Macie Potts

THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Locomotive Manipulation", February 6, 2014, Actors: Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, The Scene: Sheldon kisses Amy
Pablozky21:
After what had been a pretty funny episode, but nothing memorable, Amy gets fed up with the lack of romance and she decides to speak up to Sheldon; honestly, for a moment there I was forseeing a break up (and rooting for it too), but then Sheldon decides to throw a tantrum that ends up in him kissing Amy: the twist? He liked it; it's the first step towards the physical intimacy Amy has been looking for quite a while, and it's a great moment of personal growth for Sheldon, who has become more aware than ever of what Amy means to him. With this I can see him becoming a better boyfriend, though I still expect Sheldon to be Sheldon and be selfish from time to time, but now he can also be a little bit more human, which is the right step for the show to take. Diana mack: Sheldon kisses Amy on her lips! No additional comment needed.

THE FOLLOWING, "Trust Me", February 3, 2014, Actors: Tiffany Boone, James Purefoy and more
The Scenes: Giselle and Luke talk about killing Carlos & Mandy kills her mother in front of Joe
Sharon Seymour:
After Luke kills Carlos, Giselle complains that she wanted to kill him.
Diana Mack: Judy encourages Mandy to kill Joe Carroll, after finding out what he did with the reverend. But the girl stabs (brutally) her mother instead. Joe looks at her almost touched. That was a scary and insensitive moment. Also picked by DarkUFO and Macie Potts

THE FOSTERS, "Family Day", February 3, 2014, Actors: Teri Polo, Jake T. Austin and more
The Scene: Stef and Lena's reaction to Jesus and Jude's fights
Klutzy girl:
I love Stef and Lena's reaction to Jesus and Jude's fights. It's sweet that they're becoming brothers now and acting like it.

THE ORIGINALS, "Crescent City", February 4, 2014, Actors: Daniella Pineda and more
The Scene: Sophie dies
Virginia Fontana:
I was finally just starting to like her, but oh, well! A shock ending emphasizing the seriousness of Celeste's reign of terror.

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, "Things Fall Apart", February 5, 2014, Actors: Sarah Clarke and more
The Scene: Marla is a Tomorrow Person
Justyna Kubica:
I'm glad this one's finally confirmed. I know that many people, myself included, was expecting this twist, but it was still a great one. Especially considering the circumstances under which Stephen learns the truth about his mother. Marla stopping the bullets from reaching herself, Astrid and her father was a pretty powerful moment. And it opens up a lot of possibilities for her character. That's definitely something I'd love to see. Sarah Clarke is a great actress so I'm glad that we have a chance to watch her taking a more interesting role on the show. And now I'd love to learn more about Marla's past and secrets, wonder how much she really knows about what happened with her husband and Ultra. Also, it was a very good episode in general, feels like the show is finally finding its ground and it makes things much better and entertaining to watch. If only something could change with the one character I'm currently not interested in, it can be truly great.
Daniel van der Veer: Some might have seen it coming, others not. Some might like it, while other consider it inconsistent with her behaviour. However, I think the revelation that Marla is a Tomorrow Person was done in a really cool way. Having her stop the bullets from the Ultra kill team, was quite a way for Stephen to find out.
Bradley Adams: The end scene. I predicted Marla's superhuman abilities back in episode 4. It's so refreshing to be right.

  1. Honorable mentions:

Criminal Minds - JJ finds out she miscarried.Such a sad scene, and AJ was amazing the entire episode.

HIMYM - Barney says nothing you do is legendary unless your friends are there to see it.

Teen Wolf - The Stiles reveal. Dylan is such a good actor.

Supernatural - While painful and I want the brothers to fix it, the end scene between Sam and Dean was so well-acted.

NCIS - The scene with Tony, McGee, and Bishop at the end. It was cute!

  2. Honorable mentions:

Arrow- Oliver bans his mother from his life.
The Middle- Axl tells the reverend that his family support each other.
B99: Peralta throws Holt a nice dinner with his husband.

  3. Agents of SHIELD - Fitz comforting Simmons after Skye is shot.

I love when these two are there for each other and this scene was heartwarming.

Teen Wolf - Stiles says "Thanks, Mom" to Melissa.

My heart sank during this scene. So short yet so powerful.

  4. Agents of Shield - May kicks ass and Skye gets shot - I honestly wasn't expecting Skye to get hurt - I thought that Ward would come in at the last minute and save her due to some really big monologue. Glad I was wrong.

Teen Wolf - Stiles reveal at the end - anything to have more Stiles makes me happy. Also, getting the see actors take on their not-quite-so-themselves characters is always fun

TBBT - Amy and Sheldon having any sort of development is a good thing that the show really needs.

  5. Fitz comforting Simmons after Skye is shot - another good one. Love these two! Simmons was trying so hard to be strong and keep Skye alive so it was even harder to see her breaking down like that later. But she has Fitz, so there's always that.

  6. B99: Peralta throws Holt a nice dinner with his husband - Lovely moment. I'm glad he solved this case. Also, B99 had so many funny moments this week (double dose of fun) if you ask me. Really enjoying the show.

  7. Yeah, B99 has been on a roll this season! There hasn't been a single episode I haven't enjoyed, so this bodes well for what the show will do creatively in season 2 :D

  11. So many great ones! I had to go with The Following, Teen Wolf and Reign, all of them so good this week.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The Arrow, Tomorrow People, Reign, and Person of Interest scenes.

    Also:

Agents of Shield: Team finds Skye injured, Fitz comforts Simmons.

The Originals: Ending scenes, Elijah furious, Rebekah and Klaus caught.

Almost Human: Meeting Nigel, John and Dorian vs. Danica fight, plus their talk afterwards. Dorian worries over having the potential to go bad, Nigel goes over the mysterious "wall". Lots of action, great episode.

  13. Reign: King Henry surprises the audience by unexpectedly killing one of his guards by slashing his neck, while Queen Catherine stands there in awe as blood splatters on her face ;).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Almost Human! Completely forgot about this one. And it was such a great episode! Definitely agree with your picks, especially the fight one, it was pretty awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  15. This week really had a lot of great scenes. Nice thorough job identifying so many of them!
I had a tough time picking, but if I had to rank my favorites in order, they would be
    1. The tomorrow people where the mom reveals her powers, as well as the scenes where both she and Steve confront Jed. This show gets better and better
    2. Arrow: Way too many good scenes for me to pick! Of the choices given, I went with the Oliver/felicity conversation, but my other favorite scenes involved the fight with Oliver and Nyssa (great fight scenes in the episode!) as well as Sara deciding to stay and her scene with Oliver at the end.
3 The Big Bang theory: What was more surprising than Sheldon kissing Amy was the fact that there was actual real chemistry when it happened and it didn't look awkward. This was also a really good episode for Raj, who actually managed to meet and impress a normal female, without trying. The scenes with Raj and his dog were hilarious.
    4. The Originals. I'm not a fan of this show, but I happened to catch the recent episode and to me, the best part was the witches showing how much power they really had....especially when klaus was dagger end.
    Others not mentioned:
    5. Almost human: This was a great episode, but I loved the twist at the end , when they realized that the scientist had orchestrated the entire thing. I didn't see that coming! The ending with him going over the mysterious wall was also very intriguing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The last scene of Reign with Clarissa calling Catherine her mother.... Didn't see that one coming!
Though I'm a little bit disappointed because they kept saying that Clarissa's face "was a ruin" but I mean, only her half her left side is pretty damaged. Poor girl anyway, being rejected by her mother and everything, I'm so glad she was there to save Mary!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yep, me too. But I find it hard to pick one scene from this episode. I felt more like one looong scene. Banshee never disappoints, it is always packed with amazing scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Same here, it can feel like that with two handers especially can't it. If pushed I'd have to say the scene with Racine was my favourite, the tension in that kitchen just built and built like a pressure cooker!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Agreed, I was totally surprised at the sudden burst of violence in the episode tbh, but boy did it make for a great scene!

    ReplyDelete
  20. As much as i want to say originals, i have to say reign. Each episode gets better and better. And the scene with coming into Mary's room and to the point where Sebastian rushes in and holds her while she retorts to Katherine is the bestю acting was superb.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ditto. I re-watched this scene a lot of times ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Clarissa's story is so terrible. I think they changed her face a bit, because in the past when Nostradamus was dragging her into cell, we caught glimpses and it was a lot worse. But i guess they toned it down a little bit, because eventually she will probably re-enter society and starts interacting with people.
Though i am already not liking where they are taking her next episode with kidnapping her half brothers. And wfh are they doing ot her voice?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Almost human: yep, if wall was mentioned before last episode i missed it, so i was extremely excited to find out about it. Just imagine the possibilities of what can be behind it. Ranging from radiation and mutants to anarchy, tribes, virus, cannibals, another goverment preparing for a war with people inside the wall, aliens, robots controlling territory etc. Anything i hope they take this seriously and come up with something awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gina Carano was great and i really liked it that despite Dorian damaging and weakening XRN, it was human who ultimately took her down, though with help of robotic leg. Kennex took all the punches like a boss.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Honourable mention goes to The Following where Mandy kills her mother.

While Katie Cassidy acted the scene where Laurel throws Sara out well, I hated the scene.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, I loved that scene. Such a shame that Racine had to go, he fit in so well on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah well, at least with Banshee there's always flashbacks ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm dreading Henry's upcoming death and hope they don't plan to show that any time soon as the show won't be the same once he leaves the series imo.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I voted for Reign, and both The Following scenes, but I loved Stef and Lena reacting to Jude and Jesus' fight on The Fosters too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My 3 checks go to
Arrow - Oliver trying to deliver that speech. Love Amell's performance there.
Teen Wolf - Stiles calls Melissa Mom
BBT - Sheldon kisses Amy. (Loved the startled. 'ooo I like this reaction from Sheldon' sold
    totally with body language. )

    ReplyDelete
  31. Omg there's good ones in here. But hell yeah I voted MY top 3...Arrow- Oliver Tells Felicity she won't lose him. 2 TBBT- SHELDON KISSES AMY!! And 3 TTP- Marla reveals she's a TP!! Even though we all thought it, the reveal was awesome.

Ones i also liked but couldn't vote for. The Following, Luke and Giselle argue over killing Carlos, that was hilarious, and my favorite scene. I love the dark humor i laughed so hard at that. "Look he's still breathing you can finish him off." "You selfish silly ass!" "Oh c'mon Giselle don't be like that." LOL Luke is too funny. And a bonus cuz i was waiting for them to kill Carlos, he was annoying.

New Girl- PRINCE being there! But it wasn't the part where Prince teaches Jess how to say i love you (all though i loved that whole thing) But it's when Prince first reveals himself, and Nick and Jess scream, and Nick faints!! LOL that was classic.

And the other Arrow scene...Oliver bans his mom from his life.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I voted for the other Following scene, Luke and Giselle argue over killing Carlos, i was lmao!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. For Criminal Minds: YOU HAD THE WHOLE EPISODE 200 TO PICK FROM AND YOU CHOSE THE BAR SCENE? That episode was phenomenally acted by AJ, especially in JJ's flashback scenes in Afghanistan. The bar scene has been done a million times by this show in a forced way to get the family dynamic, and had NO place in the episode whatsoever. It was completely sweet to see everyone together, but it didn't belong.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My favorites were Reign: Catherine trying to kill Mary and of course the kiss of TBBT!!
    Honorable Mentions:
The Originals: Monique killing his own aunt (Sophie) cause she is not a believer.
Reign: King Henry killing his own guard cause he spoke the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My favourites were mostly all from Reign this week. The whole episode was just one twist or shock after the other, I loved it! So I'd go with Catherine trying to kill Mary and Henry killing one of the guards when he says he'd tell the truth.

Also have to mention Skye being shot in SHIELD. It was a truly shocking scene.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Arrow - Oliver giving his speech in support of Moira - that scene was beautifully acted by Stephen Amell. The way he kept stopping and having to force himself to continue, being disgusted by his own words, came through so strongly. I hate this storyline, frankly, but it did give Amell a chance to seriously show off his acting prowess last week. He has made a huge improvement since the beginning of the series.

TTP - the reveal of Marla as a TP - predictable, yes, but I give the writers credit for the bait-and-switch with Luca. Even though my and many others' original theory had been that Marla is the one with powers, I did reconsider it and think it might be Luca after the ending of the previous episode. Anyway, it was just a really cool scene (and visual) with her stopping all the bullets in mid-air - loved it when she immediately took charge and told Astrid and her dad to take cover while she handled the situation. I also liked her earlier confronting Jedikiah. I'm intrigued to find out exactly how much she knows about Ultra and everything else, and I really like Sarah Clarke so really, the more screen time for this character the better.
