  1. Well well well whilst the 2012 Detectives may suspect Rust I am now 95% convinced he isn't the killer. I think he has spent the last 10 years off the grid investigating Tuttle and other powerful men knowing he was never going to get far with it the official way because they have too much power.

There is no way he is involved in the 1995 killings or any ones that have happened since BUT I do wonder if the latest one at Lake Charles was something he staged in order to get the cops back on the trail of the bad guys. Bit like in S5 of The Wire when McNulty fakes a serial killer.

As for Hart I think something terrible happened to his oldest daughter.

  2. I think Rust might have something to do with whatever the hell happened to the reverend.

  4. Yeah wasn't it something to do with his medication getting mixed up, seeing how much Rust knows about drugs I wouldn't be surprised if he was responsible.

  5. Every single minute of the episode was full of mistery and amazing performances.

  6. Best show ever. I think I'm gonna watch all episodes again because I am missing so much!

  7. Finally caught up.

I still think Hart is the killer or know who the killer is (his daughter became the thing he hates--that he/the killer targets), but I think Rust accidentally ran over his daughter and that is why he punishes himself and uses In Brain theory to contradict his existentialism with an Us verses Them arguement as he says "They" (Eternity -The Outside) looks back on them (it my imply that eternity = judgement). What True Detective has done with this episode is point out that both characters are liars, but both still may be true to themselves in terms of "methodology".

I'm also checking out more on Robert W. Chambers "The Yellow King" for more insight, but whatever is happening I think the series will end on a magical climatic note, as I feel like it's more and more anthropomorphic...

  8. I actually wonder if the 2012 Detectives are setting Hart up and that seemingly looking at Rust is just a ruse?

  9. For a while I thought Hart might be the killer because of his anger issues and attitude towards women but now I am certain its neither of them and is instead a bigger conspiracy.

Could be related to Hart's father-in-law as he seemed to be a man of power and influence and it might explain what is up with Hart's daughter - also Hart keeps going on about his inattention to his family and how the clues were there all the long but the Detective curse meant he couldn't see them.

I may have spent the week reading too many theories and becoming just a bit obsessed with the show!

  10. There's a lot of ways I think it could go! Part of me wonders if we will never learn who the killer is, because I could see a scenario where there's a 'double' fall out, especially because Rust prose and magical realism aspects point more to a story about people just being stuck to together in a nonsensical hell, (no justice for liars theme) rather than a story about finding a killer.

His father in law is another good one, I hadn't much thought about!! -But it would make sense when one considers that scene where the kids were fishing over at their house (it felt like something bad was going to happen, but didn't and then the girls argument foreshadows their parting ways and the scene where they throw the crown.tiara up in the tree). It would make sense that it could be someone right under Hart's nose.

I think I could easily go crazy thinking up theories for this one! gah! :D
