MOVIES - Veronica Mars - To be available On-Demand same day as Theatrical Release

23 Feb 2014

"Veronica Mars" will be released by Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. in about 270 theaters on March 14, the same day that it is available to buy or rent online. It will mark the first time one of Hollywood's six major studios has distributed a movie in theaters and for home viewing at the same time in the U.S.

  1. Why? They want to prepare an excuse for movie flopping in advance?
Come on they should have morefaith in it, it won't bea hgefinancial succes but it was nevermeants to be. It has its own small audience and purpose.

  2. The fans already paid for this movie, the budget is from their money, so I guess they're saying "Thank you" with this.

  3. I think this is cool. Just because fans paid for this movie doesn't mean they will all want to go see it in theaters. And in my area it won't even be available theatrically as far as my research can tell and I'm in friggin SLC. Which means probably there are lots of hipsters who like VM even if they really don't lol, but oh well. Anyway, I'm hoping this is released on Google Play, I've been buying the VM seasons on Play so it would be nice to have the movie there as well, both to not duplicate a purchase and because I'm trying to time rewatching the series so that I'll finish right when the movie is released. :)

  4. makes sense actually. the Kickstarter campaign financed that movie, Warner just pumped a fairly small sum into this. It won't flop for Warner in any way.

  5. It will not be in very many theaters and I think this is a nice jester to the fans that paid for the movie, I would have gotten it that day in any case.

  6. It is going to be on Amazon and iTunes and on demand from some cable and satellite companies.

  7. Just in the US though? What about the international VM fans?

  9. A nice sign of respect to the audience that helped make the movie happen!

  10. I totally forgot that the fans paid for the movie.
Now it makes this move seem even worse. So not only the fans paid but now they will pay again))) Indeed nice gesture.
Fans in Usa would go to the theatre or buy dvds anyway, since the copyright there is strict. Now they will pay online and still buy dvd later.
And the fans in other countries would have to download the movie, but now they can do it for money. Yay!))
Sorry don't take my sarcasm personally i am just in a sour mood.

  11. Wow, angry much. The people that got in on kickstarter had levels they could donate and some will be getting FREE downloads and some will even be getting FREE DVDs. There was lots of different items we could get, like T-Shirts, etc and it did not take a big amount of money to get these items.
Are you a backer of the movie, did you donate?

  12. Most backers get the movie for 'free' (i.e. the level they donated at means they get the download included) so actually I think that rather than being a bad thing, it's a great thing for all the backers who put their money into the movie.
