Four additional series regular roles have been cast in FOX and Warner Bros. Television’s GOTHAM, which has a series commitment at the network:

· Robin Lord Taylor (Another Earth, Accepted, The Walking Dead) has been cast as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin). Character description: With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

· Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice, 3 lbs.) has been cast as Captain Essen. Character description: Gordon’s boss at the GCPD Homicide Squad, Captain Essen balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that’s as much corporate litigator as cop.

· Sean Pertwee (Alan Partridge, Jo, Camelot, Devil’s Playground Doomsday, Event Horizon) has been cast as Alfred Pennyworth. Character description: A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.

· Erin Richards (Breaking In, Being Human, Merlin) has been cast as Barbara Kean. Character description: A sophisticated emergency room doctor, Barbara is the fiancĂ©e of James Gordon, joyful but with an edge of vulnerability. She stands by her future husband…which can be difficult in a world as corrupt as Gotham.

Additional project info:

Based upon characters published by DC Comics, GOTHAM is a drama exploring the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous.

Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome) wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer. Danny Cannon (the CSI series, Nikita) will direct and executive produce the pilot.

  1. Nice casting choices. Although I don't like that the Penguin will be in this cause I just absolutely despise that character, not even love to hate him, just hate.

  2. The casting for this show is very promising.

  3. I'm kinda confused...why didn't they just go with Jack Napier ?

Clearly the one enemy we'd WANT to see on a Batman prequel

  4. Supposedly the villains from the Nolan trilogy can't be used again in live action TV/Film for a certain number of years (contract agreements so that there would be 1 'definite' version for a time period). It's been implied too that it's the reason we wont see Ra's Al Ghul in Arrow for a long while yet.

  5. REALLY ?!
These awfull Nolan flicks are responsible for that ? D:<

  6. Pertwee is an interesting choice for Alfred

  7. Jack Napier? I don't want the people making Gotham give that name to Joker at all.

  8. Are you sure? Amell has said many times that Ra's al Ghul may show up and I don't think it has anything do with with contract agreements that he hasn't yet.

  9. It's just a rumor after all. In one of his recent video's apparently he mentioned that he wanted Ra's Al Ghul in Arrow but there were 'reasons' for why it wont happen anytime soon. I don't really follow his video's so I don't know if that's true or not, but it's generally linked to the Nolanverse rumor.

  10. IF that rumor about the Nolanverse characters not being used is true, couldn't that also refer to how Ra's al Ghul's name is said on Arrow as well with it being exactly the way the Nolanverse says it(besides Nyssa who said 'Raysh')?

  11. The pronunciation is something that doesn't really matter I believe.

But again, it's all just rumors. It started last year or so when one of the Arrow team members (I forget if it was a writer or cast member) mentioned that to use certain characters they had to check with DC. While it didn't apply to all DC characters, the Batman characters were singled out as one they had to ask about. That led to the Nolan theory and the rumor grew. (No other DC properties have been identified as needing to be asked about.)

  12. Interesting casting choices!

  13. I wonder, though, could that have been started when even Amell himself said during some kind of convention that they had to ask even Nolan on which Flash character to use and that's when they decided on Barry Allen?

  14. I brought that example up because Amell still said they had to ask Nolan, which, I still don't understand to this day.
