So, this is my first time reviewing hit show: Castle and as I can see the fanbase is incredibly passionate. Please be gentle. ;)
Though the episode’s beginning focused the search for an angry Hulk, the case, this week, mostly on focused on a Castle-life Carrie. There was the outsider with the telekinetic powers and the death of the typical mean girl in what appeared to be supernatural circumstances. I love we are not only trying to determine who the killer is, but also how could something like this be explained. Castle is at its best when the two leads are pulling at different directions on the case. Every time Castle tries his delirious theories, there is the always present look from Beckett. I find it priceless,it's kind of: I love you, but you're such an idiot sometimes. I’m always on Beckett logic prevails side on these types of cases; there should always be an explanation that does not involve anything supernatural.
Castle and Beckett were brought back to their teenage years. Castle is back at the school he almost finished his senior year. We got to learn a little more about the Rodgers backstory, and apparently he has a go to guy for cows. (PS. I loved the way Nathan acted the scared teenage kid in the principal’s office. ) With all their combined stories about their rebellious teenage years, they are so going to taste it when they have kids of their own!
The denouement of the case, with the special effects was pretty great, and during this episode was the only acceptable explanation I could think of that seemed to make sense. The prank video message really caught me by surprise, I love it. Kate’s revelation at the end kind of threw us off a little. CSU did not find any special effects material that could have faked the telekinetic attack. I think, and will continue thinking that Kate told Castle they did not find anything only to make her beau happy, and that in fact, the telekinetic attacks were staged. What do you guys think?
The big Caskett wedding decision this week seemed to be to decide between DJ or band. A major problem unraveled though: “Do we not have a song?” The title being Smells Like Teen Spirit, I was thinking they would go Nirvana, but yeah not going to happen. The title was probably only a reference to a music centered episode doubled with the fact they would be dealing with teens. We did not know if they’ve decided go with the band or the DJ, but at least they seem to have found their song. Excellent choice, in my opinion, I really love this song. (In my Veins by Andrew Belle, in case some of you were wondering. It was also featured in the season 4 finale, Always. Check him out, his music is great!)
Is it just me, or is Caskett Wedding Planning not going so well? The episodes all seem to be underlining one major decision regarding their upcoming nuptials, but nothing really has been decided yet. The honeymoon destination: not set. The date, we thought was set for September, but is now set for spring. Is this wedding really going to happen this spring? (Castle time may not equal real time.) The venue seemed to be unanimous, but that too fell through. Kate’s dress seems to be the only thing chosen, but with the fan response to that dress not sure it’s supposed to stick either. I agree with the comment someone had said before about that dress, we may not particularly like the design but the fact that Kate likes it and her reaction when she saw herself in it should be enough for us.
Still, let’s face it, all the planning they have been doing will end up being useless. Everyone knows their wedding is not going to go as planned, right? They’ll probably end up locked in a freezer, with their car at the bottom of the river, trying to escape tigers while searching for the antidote to some lethal poison.
Richard Castle, could you please get any cuter?? The last scene definately makes my top Caskett moments so far.
“Everything I’ve ever done, every choice I’ve ever made, every terrible and wonderful thing that’s ever happened to me, it’s all lead me to right here, this moment with you.”
One question remains though, where in the hell is Alexis? We haven’t seen her since Limelight. Are we supposed to make of this that she is still shacking up with Pi?

I thought Alexis was just about to break up with Pi by the end of Limelight? Anyway excellent review. The end scene was one of my favorite Caskett moments too!
ReplyDeleteAs, I am from Canada, I watched the episode Sunday, so my review was already made, I scheduled it to be posted at the same time as the other posts related to this episode. As their were no spoilers in the title, I did not see a problem, I'll set it up to appear next time, what an hour later?
ReplyDeleteThey could have many, many, many songs, but this song choice does seem to be unanimous!
Yes, she was, which is exactly my point. If she broke up with Pi, why would she still be living with him? Shouldn't we have caught a glimps of her at the loft?
ReplyDeletewasnt it implied that beckett went to the prom in season1 ep10 during the discussion on alexis date for prom?
ReplyDeleteNice review! Though I don't know if I'd say the planning isn't going well, I like to think they're just taking their time. But I do believe either way what you said it's exactly the kind of scenario that will lead to the actual wedding. I also loved how you put it XD would be a fun scene, very caskett-y.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, they were talking junior prom in season 1 not senior prom... But maybe her prom date took "Rebel Becks" to the poetry slam instead without her parents knowing.. I have no idea, just theories...
ReplyDeleteYeah they are taking there time, but spring is a couple months away, and they haven't really decided on anything yet! I know I'd be more than freaking out!
ReplyDeleteThe West Coast is in the Pacific time zone and I think it posted around 10pm CST so you would need to wait an additional two hours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your first, of what I hope are many, reviews, it was nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Beckett let her man think he got this one but her fiendish logic really did win out back at the station, off camera.
I too was hoping that their song would be by Nirvana but mostly because I love that line "I feel stupid and contagious" but I love "In My Veins", it's full of Casketty subtext.
For some reason the fact that they don't have a venue yet...or an actual wedding date that we know of...doesn't seem to bother them too much but that might be because they know that they always have the Hamptons manse to fall back on if need be. Personally, I vote for that locale as long as they can secure the same home that they used for "Murder He Wrote".
Ohhh! I absolutely love the idea of back-up wedding in the Hamptons!;)
ReplyDeletePlus, that hamptons house/mansion was breathtaking...
It was stunning!!! Even thought it's actually in Malibu, it totally looked like it belonged in the Hamptons. I would even volunteer to be their Flower Girl. :-)
ReplyDeleteOverall a very good review, I liked some of the subtle points you pointed out, RC at the Principal's office, Kbex as a rebel etc. Some of my own angst comes when we try to cover every facet of the characters lives when we only get a glimpse for approx. 43 minutes per episode, so in reference to Pi, Don't Care, sure it will be covered when necessary. Just like when Beckett returned did we need an explanation of where Sully went? Some fans clamored for it, but IMHO not needed. I disagree with your statements about the planning not going well, how do we know that? Also your last bold prediction that all the planning will be useless is just that, your prediction, and really does not tie into the discussion of the execution of the script for this week. Again, overall a good job, but room for improvement by focusing on the current week rather than speculating on past or future weeks, IMHO
ReplyDeleteThx
Thanks for the cues, but I kind of like making predictions ;)
ReplyDeleteBut will try to focus on said episode!
As for Alexis/pi situation, the amount of fans that wanted him gone since the beginning, I thought they would let us know the outcome of that discussion, sooner rather than later. I agree that not every thing needs an explanation. Don't really care for Sully either, but he was there for what, an episode? Alexis has been a big part of the RC storyline every since the beginning, that's why I feel her whereabouts seem more important than his!
Predictions are Great, and I love to see them, as long as they are marked as such rather than in the body of a review. Consider it almost a spoiler alert of sort. I was severely reprimanded early in my career for speculating, and never forgot it, but you are so gracious and I have long since passed my prime. You are correct about people wanting Pi gone, but considering how AM has handled things in the past, the easy road is for us to think out the scenario on our own. She broke up with him, and returned to college housing, leaving Rick to pay out the lease which is what I am thinking unless I am surprised and they address it in a future episode. Like I said nice job, it is harder than people think to critique something, one thing is for sure, someone is going to think it stinks, LOL
ReplyDeleteIf he got the grant he was moving away, so Alexis could remain in their apartment.
