Arrow 2.13 "Heir to the Demon" Review: The Past Will Haunt You
7 Feb 2014
Arrow ReviewsThis week’s episode of Arrow, “Heir to the Demon,” was written by Jake Coburn and directed by Wendey Stanzler. The show had all the elements that have come to make up a great Arrow episode. It was packed with amazing stunt and fight sequences. We have villains in sheep’s clothing and sheep in villain’s clothing. We have reunions and melt downs – and let’s not forget a healthy dose of ultimatums. The one thing the episode didn’t have was Roy (Colton Haynes). According to Marc Guggenheim, the episode was so packed, they had to leave out one major fight scene between Roy and Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law).
As with all the best episodes, the title resonates throughout the episode. Almost every character is subject to the demons they have inherited. Most particularly, the title refers to Nyssa al Ghul who is the daughter and heir of Ra’s al Ghul – the demon and leader of the League of Assassins. Law is fantastic in the role delivering terrific fights scenes again and again throughout the episode. The opening scene in which she takes out the entire border guard contingent at the airport – while in heels! – was a spectacular introduction to the character. This first scene immediately introduces a number of layers to her character. We see she can fight, but she’s also cool under pressure. Before we see the monitor flag her as wanted by A.R.G.U.S., she is humanized for us by smiling and winking at a young boy who is staring at her. She is not, in many ways, heir to her father, the demon, and this is consistent with her releasing Sara, the one she loves, by the end of the episode. I will never get tired of watching characters enter a scene via a giant ribbon – which I’m sure is not the technical term for that stunt – but it is both impressive and beautiful.
Speaking of impressive - we get to see Caity Lotz (Sara) do the salmon ladder! And she has abs to rival Stephen Amell’s (Oliver). This is Caity’s strongest performance to date and as the episode is really centered on her, she rises to the challenge. I loved that there was a romantic relationship between Sara and Nyssa – it wasn’t expected, but it made perfect sense that they would have grown close, especially considering that it’s intimated that Nyssa took Sara under her wing. Sara clarifies that she didn’t fall in love with Nyssa out of gratitude, however. The scene between Law and Lotz in which Sara is clearly willing to sacrifice herself to her former lover was terrific. Clearly, there will be repercussions for Nyssa if she doesn’t kill or bring Sara back, and Sara is prepared to let Nyssa kill her to spare Nyssa. Sara clearly still has feelings for Nyssa, and Nyssa is clearly heartbroken over losing her. Sara says she knows that Nyssa really came to Starling City to get Sara back and save her. This is subtly underscored by Nyssa telling the border guard in the first scene that the purpose of her trip is “personal” not “business.”
I also loved that Quentin (Paul Blackthorne) just took the relationship between Sara and Nyssa in stride, recognizing that he was just happy that Sara had someone in her life to watch out for her and love her. The scene in which Sara, Arrow and Quentin work together to capture the assassin (Shaker Paleja) is a great one and shows that in many ways Sara and Quentin are very alike. He asks how she met Arrow and she quips “Vigilante Club.” But in the end, it’s Quentin who takes him down with a right hook and a quip – didn’t teach you that in Assassin School? - which is a nice touch.
Sara tells Nyssa that she won’t return to the League because she can’t take the killing any more, it’s destroying her soul. The League is not the only demon lurking in Sara’s past, however. The flashbacks in this episode focus on the Lances on the weekend that Sara went off with Oliver. This flashback puts a whole new spin on what we think we know. Sara seems to be resisting going with Oliver until she has a heart to heart with Laurel (Katie Cassidy). We see the entire Lance family as happy and pretty ordinary. Both Sara and Laurel are successful college students, and Laurel has just applied for law school and is looking for an apartment to move into with Oliver. We see that Quentin doesn’t really approve of rich, spoiled “fratboy” Oliver. Laurel insists she’s happy to Sara and gets angry with Sara when she pushes her about Oliver. I had to wonder if Sara went with Oliver just to prove his true colors to Laurel or if she had actual feelings for him too.
For her own part, we see that Laurel is consumed by demons in this episode. She is the heir to her father's own demon of addiction. She is still hurt by Sara’s betrayal, and this is compounded by being the last to know that Sara is alive. I have to say that I felt like the flashbacks were really painting a different Laurel than who we saw in season one. The confident and competent public defender that we met last season, I don’t think, would have defined herself by her relationship with a man. I have to say that I am really disappointed by what they’ve done with Laurel. Having her guzzle wine and have a tantrum in the last scene, was completely out of character for the Laurel I thought I knew. At this point, I hope they do kill off the character.
The episode also features some of the demons in Moira’s (Susanna Thompson) past. We see her gearing up for and launching her campaign for mayor. I loved the scene between her and Sebastian (Kevin Alejandro). As always, he brings “blood” into the conversation, by telling both her and Oliver that ‘blood’ should be stronger than politics, and he understands that his friend must support his mother. Sebastian warns Moira that if she proceeds, he will do what it takes to win. The best thing about this scene is that it underscores the questions about Moira. Is she the fragile figure too weak to stop Malcolm Merlyn or is she the woman who is strong enough to lead the city? Moira’s answer is telling: she’s the woman people shouldn’t underestimate. Slade (Manu Bennett) chastises Sebastian for doing just that. In the end, Moira will do whatever it takes to achieve her own ends. However, she has to know on some level that proceeding really puts Thea (Willa Holland) at risk for learning the truth.
The truth itself is a demon to a number of characters. Moira, Oliver, Sebastian, Walter (Colin Salmon), Sara, and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) all carry the weight of their secrets.
We finally learn a little something of Felicity’s past. She painfully confesses to Oliver that her mother, is, well, her mother – implying that her mother is not a good mother – though not yet why – and that her father left them when she was very young. This information helps to understand her relationships to a number of the other people in her life. She clearly thinks of Walter as a father figure. It’s a lovely scene when she goes to him with information on Tempest and he tells her to call him Walter – which she immediately does in a silly fake British accent. She is clearly disappointed in him when he brushes her off, so she goes to confront Moira directly. It becomes clearer why she distrusts Moira if she doesn’t trust her own mother. And Moira makes it abundantly clear that she’s not trustworthy in this scene.
This scene may tell us more about Moira than we’ve yet learned and it seems the writers don’t want us to like Moira. When Felicity is first introduced, Moira doesn’t even recognize her name – she’s just one of the people who work for her son and therefore beneath her notice – not a great trait in someone running for office if they don’t care for the common people. And did that indifference factor into Moira’s delays in helping the people of the glades? We quickly learn that Moira does know something of Felicity when she turns Felicity’s own feelings for Oliver against her. She tells Felicity she’s seen how she looks at Oliver and if Felicity doesn’t want Oliver to hate her, she’ll keep Moira’s secret. This also draws a clear line between Felicity and Moira. Moira will do whatever it takes to get what she wants, but Felicity won’t betray her friends even if it puts her own happiness in jeopardy. At the end of the day, Felicity made the right call.
The scene between Oliver and Felicity when she tells him just crackles with the chemistry between these two actors. Rickards is simply magnificent in the scene as she worries that she will lose someone who is as important to her as her father was. Yet, she recognizes that Oliver values truth over everything – though ironically, his own life is fraught with the lies of a superhero existence. For his part, Amell is wonderful in this scene as he reacts quietly to Rickards performance, making it an even better scene.
Felicity’s timing is, as always, not the best. Oliver’s speech to introduce Moira is fraught with irony as he tells the audience that they don’t know Moira – and apparently he doesn’t either. He makes it through the speech but tells Moira he knows. He immediately kisses Thea, underscoring that he won’t hold the knowledge against her. While he ends the episode in Sara’s arms, which is a blow to Olicity fans, I don’t believe he hates her for telling him. He does, however, cut Moira off. I have to admit that while the scene is wonderfully acted, I didn’t buy into his being so upset. He already knew that Moira had an affair with Malcolm after all and keeping the secret of Thea’s birth was to protect her.
Sara is willing to die to save her family and proves it by taking the snake venom, yet even that sacrifice is not enough to satisfy Laurel. By the end of the episode both Sara and Oliver are, in many ways, very much alone. They have shared things that no one else close to them has, so it seems logical that they would seek comfort in each other’s arms. Will it last though? I suspect that both will realize how much this will hurt Laurel and back away from any on-going relationship. I also think that they will quickly realize that “working” together will be more difficult if they are also romantically involved.
It seems the only reason Dinah Lance (Alex Kingston) was in the episode was to be kidnapped, which was a bit disappointing. She didn’t even figure very prominently in the flashbacks. However, the chase scene between Arrow and Black Canary on his motorcycle and Nyssa in the van was another spectacular scene. I’m sure I just missed how Oliver nestles his bow on the handlebars, but – cool! The long wheelie to block the arrows being shot at them was amazing. Stephen Amell has commented several times on the proper technique for archery, and it seems that Law has also mastered the technique. It’s impossible to ever praise James Bamford’s stunt team enough for the work they do on this show.
What did you think of the episode? Do you think Oliver was too hard on Moira? Do you think Laurel is going to be able to forgive Sara or will she drive her away? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

loved just about the whole episode. Really did think they were going to kill Sara off, again, and again. But I"m glad they didn't. SHe is a great addition to the show.
ReplyDeleteI do have a feeling Slade is going to kill someone Oliver is close to though, very soon.
The episode was great all together. I'm glad they left Roy out because he just annoys me. I wish Sara and the other chick had worked something out...they were kinda cute...plus it would have kept her away from Oliver who was SO KISSING THE WRONG BLONDE at the end of the episode....and as always LOVED the Olicity scene time.....
ReplyDeleteAs Oliver, I would be a little ticked off at the revelation. I mean after that whole trial of her promising to tell the truth and nothing but the truth and then you find out your sister is the lovechild of your 'happily married' mother and psycho 'Let's kill the Glades' Merlyn from your secretary.
ReplyDeleteI can only see them not telling Thea ending up badly because at this point everyone knows except her.
Eek. Olicity is the yuckiest thing ever.
ReplyDeleteSeriously she looks like she could be his little sister, no thanks. Hopefully they bring a new love interest for Felicity in season 3, one who will actually stay in the show this time.
Good review! II agree that the action sequences were dandy. think I found some of the melodrama more offputting than you did, though. I don't think Felicity made the right call in revealing Moira's secret, for instance; it would be one thing to reveal criminal wrongdoing, but personal family stuff is none of her business. It comes across as manufactured drama, especially when you factor in Ollie's impluasible--to put it mildly--reaction. A mass murderer cutting off her mother for keeping a child's paternity secret, on the gorunds that she was keeping secrets, seems a tad hypocritical. Pot, meet kettle. does he not remember how Tommy's rejection of him felt? As for Laurel, I'm pretty much with you. Let's see her sacrifice herself heroically and die.
ReplyDeleteThis never occurred to me, but now that I think about it, you make a good point. Felicity would have told him that she put an alert in case any money was transferred from that account, that she traced it to the ob-gyn, that she figured out Thea was Malcolm's daughter, that she confronted Moira and gave her the choice to tell Oliver, and that Moira told her that Oliver would hate her if she said anything. She would have HAD to tell her that she confronted Moira and confirmed it, because he believed her immediately and never questioned that this was the truth.
ReplyDeleteEither way, he has every right to be pissed. During the trial, he told her it was time to stop keeping secrets and come clean, and she still held information from him. But yes, I think Felicity did tell him EVERYTHING.
who do you think could be a potential victim....I don't see anyone part of team arrow will be the one.....could thea, Moira, Laurel, Sin.......even Walter
ReplyDeleteIt seem strange that Moira has a connection to the LOA yet she has no idea that Nyssa daughter of the "demon" is in town....I guess she was not inform/told
ReplyDeleteGreat review Lisa. This episode I agree with everything you said. Even though I am not a Laurel fan or a Katie Cassidy fan I am angry on her behalf. They completely rewrote her character this season that too in a real bad way. Its like they had to bring Laurel four steps down for the audience to sympathise with Sara. Especially that secret few episodes before in the island was to just build up to the Oliver/Sara hook up this episode. That being said this was the only episode I felt bad for Laurel. The scene where Laurel hears Sara left on the boat was heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteEven I didn't understand Olivers extreme reaction to Moira. Calling her a monster was a bit too much imho. This is the most harmless and selfless secret Moira has kept compared to everything she had done last season.
Hook up or not I am glad Sara is here to stay. Black Canary is a lovely addition to Team Arrow. I feel like there is going to be a major death this season. My candidates are Moira, Laurel or Sara.
Laurel or Walter. I think the victim has to be someone very close to Oliver. Although it would be interesting if it were Moira... I can't see them getting rid of Thea - though an attempt on her might stir the pot in very interesting ways - How cool would it be for Malcolm to come back and fight alongside Oliver to exact revenge on Slade?!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Walter knew that Thea was Malcolm's. He knew when he asked her to run last episode and it was clear he'd known all along. And don't forget Moira thought Robert was going to be blown up - not just stranded! But it is hard to hate her outright because what she'd done, she's done to protect her family. She crossed a line for me when she was so cruel to Felicity - and then giving Felicity dirty looks at her campaign event? Grrr!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED it when Oliver knew immediately that she meant him. I really wonder if he thinks that Sara is the one for him because she can protect herself - and vice versa. If anyone comes after their loved ones, at least BC an A know that their romantic partner isn't in any additional danger than they already are and can totally handle themselves.
I love watching Oliver and Sara fight together. This is one thing this show does so well - they are able to have multiple characters hold their own in a beautifully choreographed fight.
I'm betting Dinah will have a bigger part in the next episode... And yeah. Laurel. Wow. I loved her last season and now she's just meh.
No question Thea will find out... and it will be bad...
ReplyDeleteOliver tells Moira he's more bothered that she'd continued to keep secrets. But I still think the fact that she had the affair - which she already copped to, is really the important point. I mean clearly, if they had sex, there could have been - and was - a child. I think Felicity is a good deal more than just a busy-body secretary, and she knows Oliver values the truth, so I stand behind her having done the right thing. Secrets never end well - if nothing else they destroy the foundation of trust in any meaningful relationship going forward.
ReplyDeleteI don't think her connection is that strong. I think she alerted them to Malcolm, but I don't think she has any other connection to them. Even if she does, there's no real reason for her to be concerned with Nyssa and her pursuit of Sara, is there?
ReplyDeleteThanks! My vote is for Laurel - but I've already said that! Caity Lotz is just SO good - especially at the physical stunts too. And that's something else that they changed about Laurel - last season she actually kicked some ass. This season she keeps getting thrown to the ground and we get close ups of her just laying there! UGH!
ReplyDeleteI love the beautifully choreographed team fight scenes on this show.
It's inevitable that this secret is going to come out. I'd love it if Thea just didn't care. So what. He didn't raise me - and then be pissed at Oliver for being mad at Moira - that would actually be pretty amusing... Of course, what will really happen is that the secret will come out and it will be very, very bad... until others point out that they are better than their fathers - I'm thinking Roy - and then there's Tommy - who I still miss!!!
But I agree. This was a harmless - and in fact, a beneficial - secret. Perhaps this rift won't last too long regardless...
Sara and Oliver are not in love and they know it. That was just sex.
ReplyDeleteI know Walter knows about Thea. He's known for a long time, my only problem is that it's not effecting him. At least not in my eyes. He seems so nonchalant about it. I kinda want him to have a reaction, regardless of how long he's known.
ReplyDeleteMoira crossed a line with me too. With that Felicity scene. Really made me mad. But asI said before I don't hate her. I mean all the crap she's done it's just a whole bunch of skeletons in her closet. And I think there will be more to come.
As for Oliver and Sara they've been through soooo much basically the same exact thing for 5 years. That kind of bond doesn't go away that easily. I could see why there would still be this connection between them. BUT i don't think Oliver is thinking she's the one he's truly meant to be with. But they do have a strong bond. Stronger than him and Laurel that's for sure. But he also has a connection with Felicity, he's just not aware of it yet.
They better have Dinah have a bigger part. That was such a waste of her character. And you're welcome. : )
I guess, Oliver can do the math...after all she started the confession with "I don't want you to hate me." and she would have to tell him that she is sure about Thea because Moira confirmed it to her.
ReplyDeleteI think Slade will gun for Sara, but Laurel will be the one who dies in the end (at least, this is my preferred outcome).
ReplyDeleteEven I hope it will be Laurel who bites the dust this season. It will be too much work on both writers, actors and audience's part to even make the character likable after all this crap. Her moral code was the best and only thing going for the character last season and now even that is gone.
ReplyDeleteFight scenes are getting better and better isn't it? I want an emmy nod for Arrow stunt team. They deserve it. How cool was Caity on that Salmon Ladder. I showed my husband that scene and he was super impressed. Hell I was turned on.
I hope this rift between Moira and Oliver will actually build on Oliver's character and make him realise he himself is keeping secrets for others benefit and is no better than Moira. I have a feeling both Moira's and Oliver's secret is going to come out for Thea. She will feel betrayed by her brother, mother and even Roy once she knows. I can't imagine how Malcolm is going to come back. I hope he teams up with Arrow to save Thea.
I suspect that Walter has just grown used to the idea and accepted it a long time ago. After all, he would have come into his relationship with Moira after that was water under the bridge - really no different than her having been married twice before him.
ReplyDeleteI don't hate Moira either - though I like her less because of her dismissive treatment of Felicity and her trying to bully her. I get that she did the wrong thing for the right reason a lot of the time and hiding Thea from Malcolm is the right thing entirely. Telling Thea now will likely have devastating consequences - although I think the Thea we have now is much more mature and stronger than the teenager we had last season - she's getting to the point where she will likely be able to handle it.
I think that Oliver is afraid of putting anyone else in danger. Sara is already in danger plus if someone were to go after Sara, in all likelihood, she would kick their ass. The same is true for Sara - they are comfortable with each other and share so many things about their past. I agree she's not likely the "one" but them together makes me a lot happier than Oliver with Laurel - at least at this point...
Betting we see more of Dinah in the next episode. I hope she kicks Laurel's ass...
Definitely like the idea of Oliver coming to some realizations over his own lies. Totally agree about losing Laurel's moral center. And honestly, Caity was HOT in this episode - I much prefer her healthy, muscular build - wow!
ReplyDeleteI also very much agree that the stunt team needs that emmy! Best team on television hands down!
I wonder if Thea is mature enough now to take this revelation more in her stride. She's almost figured out Roy's secret all on her own anyway. I wonder if Malcolm will come back to join forces with Arrow to save Thea from Slade?? That could be a hell of a showdown! (I actually said this above in the comments too!!)
Hmmm. I doubt Moira--at last not any time soon--since they just started this running for mayor thing. My guess (hope) would be Laurel, though bringing back Walter just to kill him is a distinct possibility.Hope not though!
ReplyDeleteHim being pissed makes sense. The extremity of his reaction, not so much--it seems like melodrama.
ReplyDeleteYeah I suppose he has grown used to the idea. As for Moira, rolls eyes, I can't say anymore about her. Not right now. Thea might be stronger, but this will DESTROY her. Especially when she finds out Moira, Walter, AND Oliver know??? She'll feel betrayed all over the place, including who her father really is. I'm very worried about her.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with both your Oliver and Sara statement. And your Dinah and Laurel one too.
It's a little ironic that Oliver is mad at Moira for not telling him about Thea's paternity, yet he still wants the secret kept from Thea. I would think that Thea deserves to know the truth more than Oliver.
ReplyDeleteAwesome review. When Laurel had that hissyy fit at Sara I wanted to throw something at my screen. So annoying. Laurel can go and drink herself to death for all I care.
ReplyDeleteThey really have destroyed the character - that pretty much did it for me.
ReplyDeleteI think Oliver is especially mad because Moira is making him a liar too because he has to keep her secret to protect Thea - but really that also does make him a hypocrite - not to mention the whole SECRET-identity thing...
ReplyDeleteYep, agreed. Stupid that I actually liked her in season 1, now she's just someone that whenever she comes on screen I think something along the lines of "Get off my screen you annoying idiot".
ReplyDeleteWhat I was thinking was if Thea comes to know about her parentage, Oliver's secret and about the fact that Roy already knew about Oliver and is working with him, she will feel betrayed from all sides. This will be a time for papa Malcolm to swoop in and corrupt baby girl. Oliver then will have to fight for Thea with Malcolm.
ReplyDeleteHowever they go about it, it is high time Thea comes to forefront in the show. She is far too in the background lately.
Ah! Yes. I can definitely see her being pissed off about Roy knowing about Oliver and working with him. She's going to be pissed enough that Sin knows about Roy.
ReplyDeleteI agree - we need more Thea! We really have no idea what she can do physically, as Thea has never done anything. I'm still pulling for her to come in as Speedy...
I really have to wonder if they decided to make her completely unlikeable so even people who are fans of the comic and want Oliver with Laurel as per the comics won't want this Laurel with him. And all this in the face of the unexpected love for Felicity and Olicity?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. I want her to be speedy too. After all the name similarity between Mia Dearden and Thea Dearden Queen couldn't be a coincidence. Dearden was Moira's middle name so I believe it is Thea's too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they want Sara to become the Canary now. Wouldn't put it past the show to kill Laurel in the finale. And I like Oliver/Felicity, but can we please stop focussing on it? It's so annoying when it feels like the main plot of the show.
ReplyDeleteOK first I have to say thank you so much for this awesome review. when I first watched the episode I didn't really like it something about it felt off to me maybe because it was over the top dramatic it was too much drama to handle in 45 mins it actually made me feel a little depressed, but after reading your review I saw it in a different light and somehow started to like it. Sorry if my comment is too long but after reading the review I felt like I have a lot to express.
ReplyDeleteI was actually starting to like Moira this season and wanted her and Walter to reconcile but right now I'm not sure he is a respectable man and she is starting to drag him into the dark side and what she did with Felicity was just pure evil, OK people say that it was non of Felicity's business and she shouldn't have done what she did but she came across this info she wasn't looking for it and her first instinct was to tell Walter but she knew he didn't do anything and a secret like that you can't keep from someone close to you, she thinks of Oliver and Diggle as family so she went to Moira to give her the benefit of the doubt for Oliver's sake even though she doesn't trust her. She had no secret agenda and wasn't trying to threaten Moira that she will expose her, but what Moira did was awful using her feelings for Oliver against her like that and telling her that he would hate her if she told him, that actually had the opposite effect on Felicity than Moira wanted it showed her that she doesn't owe Moira anything and reminded her that her loyalty is to Oliver but even then she still was not sure what to do.
It was nice to see that Oliver knew there was something upsetting Felicity and kept asking her and I liked that he knew that she was talking about him when she said she can't lose someone else it shows how close they've become and finally we got a piece of her backstory it explains why she is so attached to Oliver and Dig they were more of a family to her than her own. Maybe it was a bad timing to tell him in the conference but he insisted to know what's wrong and assured her that she will never lose him and the way Moira kept looking at her made her decide that she can't keep the truth from him especially when he was going to talk about what a wonderful person Moira is, if he knew afterwards that she knew and didn't tell him then he would've felt like she betrayed him, she was in a very difficult situation and I think she did the right thing even if it meant that he would hate her.
I agree that Oliver overreacted but I think it was more about the fact that it's Malcolm than Moira keeping the secret don't forget that all the horrible things that happened to him and Sara for the last six years were because of Malcolm and he just spent the last few days dealing with one of those horrible circumstances (Nyssa, the LOA and Sara trying to kill herself) besides he asked her during the trial to stop keeping secrets because that's what destroyed their family, plus he is keeping his secret identity to protect those he loves from being hurt but Moira does it for herself.
Laurel... I don't even care enough to think about her let alone write about her.
I hated the last scene with Sara and Oliver not only because I'm an Olicity fan but it's a very bad idea for them to be together. I like the fighting dynamic between those two but them together romantically could never work there is so much history, of course there is a connection between them and they survived through a lot and understand each other but that's also the reason why they won't work, they will always remind each other of their painful past, they work better as friends and when she is a part of the team.
While I really wanted Laurel to be a great character on this show, I have to agree it is time to write her out. Between the lack of chemistry with Amell, her wooden performances and the writers making it hard to like her, it is time to go. I think there is good chemistry Lotz and Amell, she is very believable as Canary and the writers have made her a woman who can stand on her own. She has feelings for Oliver but is not so dependent on Oliver that she has to have him around to justify her decisions.
ReplyDeleteOr move her over to the Flash show when that starts.
ReplyDeleteCould they be turning her into a villain maybe thats where Slade comes in
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteThat chase scene felt like it came straight out of the comics it was amazing and then the nod to the canary eye was awesome
ReplyDeleteThats what bothers me to i feel Oliver is a man and Felicity is a bit to girlish(a brave one at that)
ReplyDeleteTry tell yourself that and that was some hot sex lol
ReplyDeleteMoira for sure, I'm positive Sara is sticking around considering the producers are going to evolve the birds of prey thing into the next season
ReplyDeleteSara and Oliver are a perfect match imo
ReplyDeleteYep! Canary eye??
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought...
ReplyDeleteSara is the Black Canary now.
ReplyDeletelol yep canary cry how embarrassing
ReplyDeleteIm not sure if this is to spoilish for you Lisa but Nyssa is coming back this season straight from the producers
ReplyDeleteNoooo. I don't want a real canary cry. I love the cool gadget. I am very skeptical about super powers in this show. I don't want any other good guys to have an advantage over Oliver. Bad guys I don't mind. But other heros no.
ReplyDeleteOk, hot sex. Buuut, no love :)
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean is that the comic fans would expect Sara to die and Laurel to take over, since she is the Canary in the comics. Maybe the writers have decided they prefer Sara and want to completely go against what everyone expects and kill Laurel.
ReplyDeleteOliver chooses to live in a state of denial when it come to his mother. Moira on the other hand is a lion--she only gives a damn about her cubs, everything else be damned. That said, she's a mother through and through, but certainly not a leader of the common people. It's also possible that she only warned the people of the city about the bomb because she didn't want to lose the love of her children.
ReplyDeleteWell, now, Oliver will be keeping a secret from his sister. Ironically, he may understand why his mother keeps some of the secrets that she does.
ReplyDeleteIf Sara dies, this show will suck.
ReplyDeleteIt was worst of Laurel I've seen so far.
ReplyDeleteI think your Olicity heart wants their to be no love but I'm sorry Sara has had a thing for Oliver for a long time Sara loves Oliver Felicity has a crush on Oliver thats an important difference
ReplyDeleteAs a conffesed season 1 Laurel fan I have to say I just wish the writers would finally do whatever they have planned for her or just be done with her, kill her off, send her away, whatever.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry, but as much as I like Sara as the Black Canary, I cannot like her as Sara herself. I'm sure she's done a lot of growing up and everything she went through is penance enough for sleeping with her sister's boyfriend, but siting beside her sister while texting Oliver did nothing but reinforce my feelings toward her.
I' don't know why the writers don't stay away from romance, Arrow is much better when it stirs away from that angle...
I'd like Oliver with Felicity, or Sara. Anyone but Laurel, actually... but he's not in love with Sara. Maybe she's still in love with him, but if he doesn't love her back, that's just sex. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but feel that given all of his own secrets, he's being a bit of a hypocrite here... He has good reasons for the secrets he keeps, so Moira may have good reason for hers too - hopefully you are right here and he'll see it from Moira's pov
ReplyDeleteWell, really, the comics make Dinah Black Canary... I think that the writers have definitely changed course on Laurel, but mainly because of the overwhelming popularity of Felicity.
ReplyDeleteI think he will eventually but lets no forget that Malcolm is alive and Moira keep that secret too...
ReplyDeleteWOOT! Spoil away - I've been dreadful at keeping up with spoilers....
ReplyDeleteKeeping that secret is the only real control she has over Malcolm... and she doesn't know that Oliver is Arrow and could therefore help...
ReplyDeleteThank you! And thanks for the nice long thinky answer! Those are always welcome! Another reason that I think that Felicity was in the right is that she did go to Moira first. She went to the Moira because it was Moira's secret and gave her the choice to come clean to Oliver. I was really rooting for Walter and Moira, but now, like you, I'm not sure. I'm hoping that Walter will still be a good influence on Moira - I still think he's one of the good guys at heart. I don't think that what Oliver and Sara has is more than friends with benefits - they are in the best position to really understand the other and provide comfort. Oliver and Felicity aren't ready for each other quite yet - ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the pronunciation too! Awesome!
Completely agree!
ReplyDeleteI think if we'd gotten Sara before Felicity, you'd have a lot more support for this. I can totally see Sara and Oliver together, especially right now... and we all know I _love_ Felicity!
ReplyDeleteYes! Totally agree - and I also hope that Nyssa avoids severe punishment.
ReplyDeleteDid you catch all of the texts though? Here's my take on what was going on. Sara was the first to want Oliver - remember her telling about Laurel getting her grounded and the party raided and _then_ hooking up with Oliver herself? So maybe she initially agreed to go with Oliver to get back at Laurel - but when we see her texts, she says she's had second thoughts - followed by Oliver's "Pleeease" and then "?????" when she doesn't answer. She only agrees after she sees how serious Laurel is about moving in with Oliver and marrying him. Oliver goes with Sara because he's panicking over the committment - which he doesn't share with Laurel. I still think that Sara agreed to go in the end to show Laurel that Oliver wasn't a good guy and wasn't serious the way Laurel was.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that they've gone in this direction with Laurel. Season one Laurel had SO much potential....
Anyone would think that she should have alert the authorities, at least.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not bored! I hope you'll come back again - we get pretty good conversations going most weeks.
ReplyDeleteYeah I did, but for me to steal your sister's crush who may or may not reciprocate her feellings is way different than sleeping with her boyfriend who she obviously loved enough to be planning a future with, even if he was an ass. I mean, him being an ass and she wanting to show Laurel his true colors is even worst. I could come to understand that she was a silly jealous girl in love that made a terrible mistake, but thi new outake makes her a ho' too. This is exactly why I said I liked Sara as the BC but no as a person.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, I just wish they could stay away from romantic storylines, they just can't write them without distroying perfectly good characters...
I agree. But whenever Sara comes on the show I can't help but feel like there is a sword hanging over her head. I sincerely hope she does not die. fingers crosssed.
ReplyDeleteFair response guess I'm a sucker Saras sad backstory and fight for atonement from her past
