    Fantastic ep to start us off and set up new paths to take the rest of this season.....still wondering how the Reese depression/disillusionment plot will resolve, but I'm glad that the show isn't making it easy and this might give Shaw and Fusco a bigger chance to shine. Loved the interplay with Root and where her story might go.... really liked the little touches, like when Arthur realized the existence of the machine and the machine redesignating him as an asset in yellow, and the machine's gift to him at the end.... Really love the depth the writers are giving this wonderful show......

    I don't know what they are feeding these writers this season, but whatever it is, keep it coming. Amazing episode, everything from Root really showing her deep connection to the machine, to me nearly busting when Shaw said "it's hammer time". Drama, suspense, a bit of comedy, this show has it all. This whole season is truly a home run on every level.

    Awesome episode, per usual. Root got to have some fun (after Control had some fun), and Shaw got to have some fun this episode. Shaw was great with the comedy this episode! Loved the present the machine had for Arthur to send him on his way.

    Curious where Root will go from here. Curious what exactly will bring Reese back. Curious what Greer (had to look up his name) wants with Samaritan exactly. So many things to wonder about for the rest of the season!

    Keep it up, writers! Keep it up!

    The Machine's gift to Arthur in the end was an amazing moment, I have to agree. It gave the show a depth I didn't think they would go to. Right in the feels man, right in the feels.

    Another amazing episode. I have got some questions, can someone please help me out?

    1)Was I the only one who didn't hear the beeps when the Machine was communicating with Root via Morse Code? Got to say, I was taken by surprise.

    2) The torture scenes were really hard to watch. Did Control permanently damage Root's ear? If so, bummer.

    3) So, is Arthur Claypool's story finished? It was unclear at the end - does his mind completely degenerate or is he going to show up again in future episodes?

    Yeah there weren't any beeps because they'd be too high frequency for anyone to hear especially older people as per what Root said. They also wouldn't have gone down well with some TV or surround sound systems

    Ok, thanks. Another detail that I am hazy about. Root got the upper hand on Control, I can see that but how did she overpower the guards?

    Sorry for asking such mundane questions but so many things were happening in this episode and I was already upset that Root had gone permanently deaf in one ear.

    Just a phrase: 'Decima is back' (Greer with the samaritan, well Finch and the rest of the team are screwed).

    Awesome episode, I liked the relationship between Finch and Arthur, I liked the parallel between how Reese works and how Shaw work (It's hammer time) and I like the intense scenes between Root and Control.

    I happy they finish Reese and Fusco arc (don't work so well for me), but the man in the suit still recovering of the recent lost.

    Clever twist in the end and Root going to China to tracking Greer is a interesting thing.

    I love the way Root hear watch the machine says.

    Thanks - I'll think about getting a second hearing aid in addition to the one I already have. If they were there then that's all you need to say. No need to have a dig at someone like me who actually has a hearing loss.

    I wouldn't worry too much about it. The beeps were at a very high frequency that typically isn't heard by people over the age of 25. It's sometimes called the "mosquito tone."

    Any real sense of danger??!! What the heck did you watch? Did you not see the guns everywhere? If it weren't for Reese and Fusco, we might have a dead Finch, Shaw and Arthur right now.

    A great episode, with only one flaw to me. Please dear writers, if you want to keep somebody alive, because you need them in the future, do not put him constantly into the crossfire of marksmen. I don't think it was the last time we saw Hersch, but I must admit it was annoying to see him constantly dodging the bullets, while everybody around him falls like autumn leaves. This show has such an excellent general storytelling, do not spoil it with these moments, find out something creative here too.

    Brilliant episode, as usual this season.
    Some questions come to mind:
    - Is Hersh really dead?
    - What happened to Peter Collier? I didn't quite catch that.
    - Is this the last we saw of Arthur?
    - What is at the address that Control is supposed to love so much?
    - What is up for Root next?
    - What is Greer's plan with Samaritan? Will it come "ailve"?

    - How far from the group will Reese drift away and what will bring him back again?

    Well, it Looks like we're in full sci-fi mode now...as I've been expecting since the last half of last season. The question for the future is now...what are ther intentions of our ominiscient AI, the Machine? Will it stay benevolent, or will it develop ist own agenda? It'll be interesting to see how that unfolds, but I Kind of miss the days of season 1, when The Man in the Suit would swoop in from nowhere to save the day...just like a comic book superhero.

    Another fantastic episode!


    So much going on! The show is really starting to hit major emotional notes. Love that the story with the Samaritan goes on! Root's scenes with control were priceless. Mr. Reese came back just to leave again (but his words to Finch are near identical to the Word's of Finch's father). And the kickback to Decima was awesome too! (You were right Mr. Other, it was a known adversary!!!) The fact the people have been after Finch at such a young age is also ineradicable! Nice touch that the machine gave Arthur a gift (the gift of 'memory")! And Hersh verses Collier was cool to see too!


    Bad Robot stuff - Kate Austen, Arthur's dialogue 'Remember to forget'/life-death-rebirth = double speak to explaining things pertaining to the ending of LOST, And of course memory = key to identity continues to be one of the production companies strongest themes!


    I don't know why it is, but it seems like season 3s are always amazing seasons!

    I didn't hear them either, but I assumed the machine had to be involved...maybe a sonic pulse


    It's similar to seen in the last episode of Revolution "Everyone Says I Love You" - The nanites, which are also an artificial intelligence, knocked everyone out (didn't kill them) and then they had a character sleep walk, and made a ton of fog, while also astral projecting a child...

    Root was fantastic in this episode, especially in the scene were she personifies the Machine. That just send chillsdown my back but I'm upset that she's permanently deaf on one ear. And they weren't kidding about the clusterfuck of villains in this episode. Decima Tech. is back, this should be pretty interesting.

    I was taken back by Reese leaving but judging by next episode's promo the Machine won't let him get very far.

    This one I think could be the really interesting one, depending on what he might happen upon, assuming that is that he really is leaving! -Although I could see a story where he shadows them too..


    Really great questions and of course the answer to whatever is at the address is probably going to be something amazing too! I kind of hope it's a person (a person hooked up to a respirator), just to bring some humanity to the character...but if it's not a person (or an animal, or a grave of someone she loves), than I don't have ANY clue what else a person would love that much...

    I'm most curious if they will become adversaries or if they will converge, and/or converge into 'the better machine'?!!

    Well, it could be some secret government facility, concealed as a regular house, or an administrative bulding.
    It wouldn't be the first - we saw something similar in Dead Reckoning, the top floor of the building, where Kara Stanton uploaded Decima's "virus".

    The opening scene (and exit scene) was to be expected I guess.
    I assumed if Control took them somewhere for an extended time, Reese and Fusco would have rescued them and if the danger was more immediate then Root would rescue them.... I guess it worked both ways! XD


    - Loved Hersh shooting the surveillance camera out of spite! XD
    - How awesome is Camryn Manheim as Control? Seriously!
    She needs a starring role on TV again soon!!
    - I loved flashing back to young Harold's hacking of Arpanet! XD
    - Stop! Hammer time!


    I really loved the irony of the anti-tech Vigilance using the highest tech explosives while the pro-tech Team Machine used a primitive IED pipe bomb!XD

    I think the adversarial lines will be shifting for a good while. While everyone works against one another there will be pairings of convenience that turn enemies to frenemies for a short time.


    I'm guessing we wil lget some more procedural COTW for a while though, maybe less control and more Vigilance in a couple episodes, and then Root going after Decima!

    I have been hoping we would get back to Greer and Decima it seems forever! It was So So So Awesome!!

    I agree that we will probably have a few regular COTW here and there, but I suspect we might just have mini stretch of those and/or maybe some myth /bigger arc sprinkled in...It also depends on what they are going to with Reese too, but I don't think they can stay away from our big wigs for long!

    Hmm...didn't what the Machine said to Control through Root seem potentially ominous to anyone but me? "Do not question my judgement. Do not pursue me or my agents. Trust in me. I am always watching." God complex much? Sounded almost like God speeking to Moses from the burning bush...

    Sure, but in Person of Interest's case (because it's a more grounded in reality kind of science fiction), there will most likely be a "physical" explanation, as even a burning bush could done by someone time traveling back/across with a flying machine that creates lightening and/or has a huge magnifying glass ;)

    IMO Bad Robot usually takes the "God helps those who help themselves" approach to their metaphysics...

    i do wonder what Reese plans to do cuz on one hand he says he doesn't want to take missions for the machine anymore but on the other hand he says he came back cuz Finch is too important for the world to let him get to harm so...how is he to protect Finch without getting involved with the machine beats me....

    That's not what I was getting at. My thoughts were running more along the lines of: What if the Machine let's ist own power "go to its head?" What happens to human free will in a world run by an all-powerful, all-knowing machine, even if that machine starts out as a benevolent being? Will the Machine be immune to the rule that absolute power corrupts absolutely?

    I think we are at a point where we're going to explore it's conscience evolution. Although even though it seems like it's moving away from it's Finch-esque benevolence/ethics, the Finch flashbacks also point out a time where Finch thinks a little too much of himself too (even if it was for a good cause)...

    This was an amazing episode. One of the few, if only, shows that keeps me in awe with their writing, acting, everything. Most of what I wanted to say was already posted by others. I just want to give props to some of the best guest stars this show has had, Camryn Manheim and Saul Rubinek. They brought to life some really great, memorable, and important to mythos, characters.

    I know I'm one week late but having just watched it: No episode so far was for me as gripping for me over the complete running length. The scenes of Amy Acker in the cage..wow! For a few seconds they really manged me to convince me that The Machine left her. The comeback was all the better. Wondering if older Viewers really couldn't hear the Morse code.
    The ending of Finch's flashback, yeah that was hard and reminded me when I visited my grandma a few years ago. Okay agents didn't chase me. ;)
    As much as I enjoy him on the show, this season made it apparent that Person of Interest doesn't need to have Reese forever. It still would be great to follow other, since the only essential two characters are Finch...and The Machine of course.

    Totally agree that the writing this season has been stellar and I'm happy for the bigger mythological arcs compared to the stand-alones.
