  1. I marked it as OK. While I think that the show has potential, I was kinda bored throughout the episode as it is very repetitive of other like-genre stories. I felt that we didn't have all of the context we need for it to be dramatic and none of the emotional connection for it to be mysterious, so it just came across as vague. However, it was just the first episode, as writers and actors get more comfortable a mediocre start can develop into a fantastic first season.

I really like the actresses - the main character Elena and sisters were very like-able and believable, but maybe not the best actresses around. The mom was decent and has the potential to be very funny. I didn't like the professor (Carl? Is that his name?). I thought that his lines were both written and delivered awkwardly. I have a funny feeling that he will turn into the archetype main love interest and brooding werewolf.

Unfortunately, the plot and characters were highly cliche. A supernatural creature (werewolf) wants to be human, lies to human significant other, and has a relationship/past love triangle with another supernatural creature. So, I am going to stick around for a few more episodes and see if it improves.

  2. It wasn't Bad this show has potential! I'm looking forward to seeing how it will differentiate itself from the other genre type shows like this. I like the main character but I don't like her first name, it reminds me of Vampire Diaries too much. Either way I will be giving this show some more eps.

  4. I felt they used way too much sex to sell this episode, and that came off making the plot look very weak. It's kind of like, our script sux, so let's throw in more sex. They need to tone that down alot and focus on the plot. I am interested in learning more about the werewolf clan. I have seen the promo for the rest of the season and thought that looked very good. I'm willing to watch more eps.

  5. To be fair there is quite a fair amount of sex in the books

  6. The name is the same as the book on which it's based which was published in 2001. Sure the Vampire Diaries books were already out then but wasn't as popular as the TV series so I doubt it concerned anyone.

  7. Having read a couple of the books I already knew some of the backstory which I guess will be explained in the show as we go but give it a chance. I would have liked a double episode to start though - it really didn't cover enough in a single episode to hook the audience as well as it could have with two.

  8. pretty good ep that has potential. but gave it a good so far as some of the characters felt a bit overdone, but I like the lead and thought she carried the show well. definitely liked it enough to keep sampling...

  9. It was pretty good, an extra point for me was the cgi. I went in assuming that ether A: a real wolf would be used or B: it would be cgi, and I expected the cgi to be horrible. It was nothing amazing but it was much better then I expected, especially for a television show. So kudos for that. I will be sticking around for now, it looks like this show has potential.

  10. It was alright. Not bad. I'll have to rewatch it. I was kinda distracted, and if i thought it was really good, i wouldn't have been distracted. Think i'll have to give it my 3 episode run. But one thing i did like was the beginning. "Want to come home with me?" "No." "Why not?" "Cause you're a slut!" Ha!! Yeah he totally won me over, i said "sold me" I hate any man who goes for sluts. And that was hilarious all on its own.

  11. Best show on Syfy

Its like a new teen wolf with adults.

    Watch, watch, watch

  12. Yea but as a guy I don't want to see all that side ass. Keep it under the covers I get the point they are having sex.

The supernatural plot part of the episode was good I like the loyal pack mentality. I like that the pack is well established in the town and has a large estate. All the were-characters we're likable non douchey.

I just feel the human boyfriend and family part needs to go soon or eventually this season . Especially if they are not the main characters.

Anyway for the meanwhile I look forward to Elena's life in the pack.

  13. totally agree. really liked the fur. just some of the movments were a bitt stiff, but as long as they got the furr good. I really likes. I was a bit worried about the casting, but now only Clay has to convince me.

  14. I started with the books when this series became aware to me. I did not like the first book, there is a lot of sex in the forst book and I did not like Elena at the time. But the books get better and better, also a bit less sex, so I am very positive how this show could develope. I normally don't mind some steamy Scenes and in this episode, it felt alright for me.

  15. Well Elenas journey in embracing her true nature is part of the books I did not enjoy, even was annoyed of, so I hope they are able to keep it shorter. But past that she really becomes a cool character (in the books). I am not convinced about Clays casting (yet). But thinking about it I don't enjoy him in the books as much as I normally do his type of character.

  16. Regarding the casting I was very sceptical at first. But almost everybody convinced me, especially Elena. I originally pictured her more the Charlie (Revolution) and Felicity (Arrow) type. Not sure about Clay though. I most enjoyed (although very short) Peter and the Sorrentinos. Also very much liked Philipp. Curious who filmed them, don't remember that beeing part of the books. The trailer reminded me somehow of Hemlock grove, for my taste too broody.

What makes me really happy is that, like Dyson on LG, they picked more lean guys to portrait wolves. This fits the story but also comes closer to the wolves physicalness than the bull like portrayals (e.g. Alcide on TB). (Were)Wolves mythology is finally getting enough attention so they can be explored in different ways - awoooooooooo

  17. Thank you. I was beginning to think that I had really strange sense of humor, because I watched that scene over and over again and laughed histerically.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Why would it be strange?? He was upfront and honest. Like the dude has morals. Nothing wrong with that. Lol Shit, if i were in that bar, i would've been able to tell that she was a slut also, right before she approached him. She gave him that vibe, i'm glad he put her in her place. Then when he said "Be safe" or w/e he said, i laughed even harder. Cuz it was such a dick move, lol. Like you shut her down, then u tell her to be safe while walking home. Hahahaha, yeah he definitely won me over.

  19. He is one fine murderer ;)

  20. This comment is so hateful it almost belongs on youtube.

Slut-shaming is a boring, outdated practice in its own right, but you know its bad when a cold blooded murderer rises in one's esteem on account of his misogyny. Gross.

    ReplyDelete
  21. How is this hateful?? B/c i said i liked him b/c he doesn't want to sleep with sluts?? Really?? Do you like sluts?? B/c me being a woman, a woman with self respect btw, i think they give us a bad name. So what's your problem??

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sure, I like sluts. A person's moral compass isn't in their pants - who cares what consenting adults do with their own damned bodies?

I'm a self-respecting woman too. So are a lot of so-called "sluts." The joke's on you when you fling that term around and judge other women for their sexual behaviour because you're playing a game that can be swung around in your direction faster than you can say "double standard."

No woman can win this game is what I'm saying, so it saddens me when you use the very weapons that were designed to hurt you to attack others you are no better than.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well if you're a self respecting woman, you have a funny way of showing it. And actually what a person chooses do to with their bodies says a lot about their moral code. And it's not just their bodies in general i'm talking about...she didn't know anything about him. Just another night for her, on the prowl (no pun intended). She had a two minute, if that, convo, with him, then all of a sudden is asking if he wants to go home with her. I mean seriously?? Flinging that term?? I wasn't flinging the term, I QUOTED the script!! And i for one, don't need YOU getting down on me, b/c i found the remark laughable. Which it was. He's an asshole, that's why it's funny. I mean if you can't take dark humor, and want to turn it into some "what is this world coming to" shame spiral, then maybe this show isn't for you.

  24. This cheesy show isn't for me, it's true. Shannon, you seem like a nice enough kid, and I'm sorry if I came across as coming down on you. I think you may have missed the point I was trying to make.

Anyway, I see that you are getting upset so there is no need to continue derailing the thread with this. Off to watch Justified! There's a show with a lot of assholes and some great dark humor. Do you watch? I'm sure you'd love it.

  25. It was OK, the wolves were very cheesy although not as bad as the Twilight wolves. Show left me with the feeling, been here, done this....many times.

  26. Well unfortunately, I am a fan of the books and while no tv or movie ever seems to do the books justice (mostly), I was really hopeful with this one. Hate the casting for Clay - in the books, he's a blond adonis "enforcer" of the pack and has a new orleans accent. And while he's brilliant, he hates teaching but does it b/c it gives him the license to do his sociological and anthropological research. His students are constantly coming on to him and he's oblivious. Didn't get ANY of that from this pilot. And I agree with a couple of other people - it should have been a 2 hour pilot to really inform the back story b/c it does take a while to get to know the other members of the pack. I'm wondering if Kelley Armstrong actually approved of the script and casting (she's the author). Her books really tell an engaging werewolf story (or stories) so it's really sad that it was done so superficially. I think the casting for Jeremy and Elena are decent and Logan's not bad but we'll see. I'll give it a couple more viewings...

  27. Ya me too i didn't know she was on the show till i saw her lol

Also love the mini XIII reunion on the show lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey about The Books, are the titles the same?? Between the books and the show?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well it seems they are borrowing from a couple of books so far to tell the back story and the current story. It's best to read the books in order b/c they intertwine several "otherworld" characters and story lines to provide some chronological story for each - including the werewolves. So far, Bitten is close to the book but then there's stuff from some of the other books (at least one other that I can see). There are some books where certain "otherworld" characters are the main feature - like Bitten, and Frostbitten, and there's a short story in "Men of the Otherworld" that gives some insight into Clay's back story, too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Damn, ok that sounds all over the place. LOL how many books are there? With this series??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Armstrong has said she's finished with the Otherworld series and resolved all her character's story lines…for now. Check out this blog for a complete listing - http://www.maryse.net/reading-order-guide/kelley-armstrong-otherworld-series-reading-order.html

  32. I saw the three first episodes in a row and I found myself a little bit obsessed, I hope this does well and they keep going.
