After the tragic death of Paul Walker, countless fans have awaited to see what would be the outcome of his Fast & Furious character, Brian O'Conner. The Hollywood Reporter has word that Universal will in fact retire the popular character Brian O'Conner instead of the possibility of killing the character off.
James Wan's Fast & Furious 7 is set to be released on April 10, 2015 in which fans will see Paul Walker's final on-screen performance in the Fast & Furious series.

Much more tasteful than killing him off IMO (as long as decently written).

ReplyDelete1.) It would have been near impossible to do the Brian character justice killing him without it seeming tasteless, considering how he died and how the movies are.
2.) It's hard enough as is, killing Brian off in the movie would be even harder to deal with, not only for many fans, but the actors who'd have had to act out the scene.
This is a good decision. Brian, Mia, and Jack should live happily ever after instead of killing him off.

ReplyDeleteI don't know about you guys, but it seems to me like a cop out. I mean, Paul died, so the character should die with him. Are we to expect for Vin Diesel's character just to inform other characters and the audience that Brian simply walked away? It doesn't seem to fit the character.
ReplyDeleteI think a death scene would've been more fitting. Not of a car exploding or something similar but more of a bullet wound or something like it in order to give a proper goodbye for the character. The last scenes Paul filmed were some of which him and the other characters were involved in some sort of a shoot-out or something similar.
I'm just throwing ideas.
They are going to have a very difficult task to explain a way that his character retires and the series continues. The family bond of this series absolutely eliminates any thought that the rest of the family can go forward facing challenges and danger in the same vein as previous editions and Brian is just at home retired doing nothing. It doesn't fit the universe this franchise has created.
ReplyDeleteGood. It's hard enough dealing with Paul Walker's death, Brian should get to be with Mia and Jack and have a happy ending (Mia can come back though occasionally). I wonder how they'll have him retire while still keeping most of his footage in the film, but I trust them to manage.
ReplyDeleteI agree killing him off would be a difficult and possibly insulting decision given how Paul died I guess knowing his character will live a long happy life is a small gift to his fans and fans of the series.
ReplyDeleteI get your point in terms of storytelling, but since his death is still a very sensitive issue, I believe it is better for the most devoted fans, crew and cast members that they give the character a happy ending. It seems less painful that way.
ReplyDeleteThat aside, having him get shot off screen (they didn't film it) and not showing the death scene, but just skip to the funeral, would have been weird as well.
The retirement bit can work if well written and I believe they are going to do their best.
